Just a reminder to all. If you don't know where the clearance sections are at your local grocery store, it would be a good idea to find out. Walmart keeps putting different items on clearance at different stores. Today I missed out on 1 pound bags of black and red beans for 25 cents a bag. Did pick up 20-something packages of uncle Ben ready rice heat and serve for 25 cents also. Even HEB has a clearance section. Picked up several #10 cans of Bush's baked beans for $3.50 each. If you are close by a grocery store check out frequently, never know what good deals you can pick up

People will wake up and realize just how much of the goods we purchase come from china. I try to get my DH to understand this but he refuses to believe it. There was something yesterday I suggested he get extra on and he said there is plenty in the warehouses. I just shake my head. He will be upset when he can't replace things he uses in all the things he does around here, but he will not go hungry, because I've got that covered.

He took his tractor to be repaired two weeks ago but we've not heard anything from them. He bought it in October 2019.

My DH is finally on board with my prepping but I looked around and ordered items as I went along without him knowing about it. Now he likes it when I pull out surprises.

Reading all your local shortages got me to remembering I used my last drinking water safe hose so ordered 2 more 75 ft ones. Not all of my acre is irrigated and I cant even carry buckets of water anymore. Been a few years since I bought any from Osh that nice store that Lowes closed for no reason.

Our Kroger looked “fairly” normal on Sunday , finally.
Except for the beef section. It was very poor on selection and what was there, was too pricey.

Chicken well stocked.
Pork, was pretty good and stocked but higher prices...They still have those piles of Smithfield bacon lol... no one wants their crap.

Frozen veggies is still the last bastion of emptiness. All that’s left are the expensive and organic brands that I can’t agford to fill the freezer with. It’s like the toilet paper isle was, all over again! Weird.

Adding: salmon has been at a good price but I can never remember which ones are no-no’s.... which ones are supposedly full of toxins? I bought it anyway.

Lots of small air conditioners at Home Depot yesterday in Ohio. Kroger’s only had shrimp rings and the small one was $14 bucks! No shrimp in the frozen food section. And lastly, Target....my wife and daughter dragged me in there. Holes everywhere in clothing and shoes. Normally there would be tons of summer items for sale, not much at all. Food section looked well stocked.

I give up.

My Target doesn't have much shoe-wise either. Gonna have to try to find a real shoe store that's open, if there even are any left.

I want different colored sneakers. I have white and black, but ya know? Variety !!!! Before everyone runs out of shoes period !!

The Farm Raised garbage - they dye it pink so it vaguely resembles salmon and tastes awful! We only buy wild caught and even then you really have to read the label because most of it is really farm raised, just wild caught which sounds like a totally oxymoron to me.

Prefer Copper River Salmon, but not at the prices these days. I'm totally not a fish eater unless it's out of the water, cleaned and into the frying pan. Rest of it just tastes, well, fishy (which means it's old).

This isn't grocery related but I thought it was important enough to share. We ran to Rural King this morning and the clothing, ammo, and spices section are really bare. I wanted to get some more diesel cans, and they were completely out. The manager said they have no idea if or when they will be getting more in. OTOH, they had some chicks to sell.

Shoes: went to my shoe store for more diabetic socks (Xelero brand) but company has just gone out of business. Decided to get another pair of new balance diabetic rated extra wide tennis shoes.....owner said he was really worried about supply now cause 99% of tennis shoe components are from China and Vietnam. Even New Balance (which I thought was all American made) is sourced components from Asia. Said Brooks brand looks to have best supply chain.

Day by day
I stopped at HEB today in Huntsville after a medical appointment. They are really well-stocked now, the only thing I saw missing was disinfecting wipes. Some cleaning items are a little thin, but there's enough for a decent selection. Most stores have dropped limits on chicken and pork, and I think the only limit is one brisket per person. Not sure about other beef cuts, just heard about that one.

For anyone looking for a window a/c, the HEB in Huntsville had a lot of them, can't recall the size but the price was $179 if I remember correctly. They were in an open area near the front of the store by the self-checkouts.

Local N.Ga Save-a-Lot had 10lb bags of chicken leg quarters on sale for 49 cents a pound limit 3. Interesting thing was that other then a few packages of Tyson chicken breasts or Tyson legs that was all the chicken that they had. I was surprised the leg quarters were on sale. Bought the limit. And pork butts are up to almost $4lb so I skipped on them. 80/20 hamburger was in the fives.

And walmart actually had a chest freezer for sale. A small one at 7 cubefoot but it was there. It was on the shelve with the dorm frig's so if you want a small freezer start looking in that area when you are shopping

It is expensive but worth it. I have been happy with Ed Kasiloff over the years and also buy from Vital Choice. Our area has no fish except that awful farm raised.

IIRC Brooks and New Balance are owned by the came company.

Bought Jockey underwear from their website and it cost me as much for a 3 pk as Penny's did for a 6 ok. That's what I get for not paying attention.

Since 1999
Went to Walmart this morning for some produce...corn, watermelon, asparagus, strawberries all looked great and were super cheap.

I wandered around to check out a few other things. Beef....hamburger was pretty much all they had and was $7 a pound, limit to 2 of anything ground beef... didn't matter if it was fresh or frozen. They had a few roasts...no steak. Pork looked a little better and chicken was full. Wrights bacon had gone up $2 a pkg. I just smiled, thinking of all the meat I have in my freezers.

I actually saw some yeast on the shelf. Soup was wiped out worse that normal. Canned veggies wasn't full, but better and noticed some new brands I had never seen before. Frozen was pretty well stocked.

Went to Kroger yesterday morning for the half of my pickup order I didn't get.
Flour was back in stock almost full, even had 25lb bags of it. Oil was back, cornstarch was back. Produce looked pretty good.

Steak was gone almost gone. There were a very few extremely expensive Ribeyes that I bought. I have a three year old that LOVES steak.

There was pork, chicken and turkey. Pork chops were 4.99 a pound, they were 1.99 two weeks ago. There was not a lot of Tyson or Purdue chicken, but several other brands I've never seen around here.
Ground beef was in the 4-5/lb range. More brands I've never seen at this store. One of the brands I know is from local farm, that I usually only see at the organic stores or farmers marketd. That was the most reasonably priced, so I picked some up. Limit 2 on any fresh beef or chicken.

Cleaning supplies were better. Had nameless gallon jugs of hand sanitizer. Limits on toilet paper and paper towels. 2 per customer if 4 rolls 1 per if it was a larger package.
Bleach was back. No 409, Lysol cleaner, or wipes.
Refrigerated section was really light. My daughter's favorite yogurt was back do I was happy.

Live Free & Die Free.... God Freedom Country....
Back on line. The modem crashed due to a lighting strike and it appears that the telephone line carried a charge into the modem. There was a loud pop and the only thing that was not working was the modem. This happened Sunday and the provider was closed on Monday and I went into the local office this morning and the office was closed to foot traffic, but an employee came out and took the old modem and gave me a new modem. Finally got the new modem up and running just now after getting back from a shopping run into Sherman.

Went to Tractor Supply, Sam's, Kroger's, Albertson's, Discount Tire and Lowe's. All of the stores were crowded so wore a mask and gloves at each one which I would do anyway. Did note that prices were up on most items and some shelves had areas where the items were in short supply or empty. Beef prices are up again as is soup. Did get brisket and pork ribs on special as well as cheese and milk and eggs. Spent over $50 at Albertson's and got 20 cents a gallon off fuel which cost $1.299 per gallon. Very few people wearing masks and less wearing gloves. Most of the elderly were wearing masks. Most employees were wearing masks and those in the deli were wearing gloves. Some of those wearing masks, did not cover their noses completely.

Did get the DW Maria Calender's chicken pot pies at Sams for about $1.40 which is a little more than Banquet pot pies, but way better. Also bought at Sam's two - six can cases of Wolf Brand Chili and this left four on the pallet.

Kroger's had brisket on special if you pull up there digital coupons for $1.67 per pound and heavy pork ribs buy on and get one.

Didn't go by Walmart for it was to crowded. Walmart does have free shipping as does Sam's.

The specials paid for the trip to Sherman which is 127 miles one way.

Will empty the van tomorrow.

I had read here somewhere that a lot of our shoes come from China and I filed that little nugget away as I/we didn’t need any shoes. I wasn’t thinking about flip-flops.

Yesterday I went to Kohl’s for a couple things, including black flip-flops. They only had the “fancy” kind, which were $20-40 per pair! None of the normal, cheap ones.

So today I checked at Walmart. They didn’t have the normal, cheap ones either and that’s when the light bulb went on - China! They did have some that look more substantial than the normal, cheap ones, for $10/pair, so I got two.

(I’ve been wearing mostly flip-flops since my back surgery. They’re easy on, easy off, with no bending required.)

May want to check the feed store for eggs. Ours has double yolk for 2.00 dozen. You use fewer eggs and they are so much better

Mid-Atlantic area Walmart this am. Haven't been to the store in 2 1/2 weeks. Couldn't get out last week because of the flooding and live power lines down across the driveway. Quite a bit of storm damage and the same steer who was out the last time I went shopping was running down the road again today...
I decided it would be a good idea to get some more socks and underwear to put back. The good socks were wiped out. They didn't have any Hanes in my size. Had to get Fruit of the Loom. They did have plenty of women's underwear though.
I realized I needed some new washcloths and it took me forever to even find any towels. They had plenty of expensive ones and the cheap sandpaper ones. I finally got a handful of the expensive ones. As I was heading back to the grocery dept., there was and end cap with the mid-priced ones I usually buy, but they didn't have many of them.
They had no canned chili of any kind. Dh hasn't had any hot dog chili in mos. It's not something I keep a big store of. They only had 4 large cans of Walmart brand canned chicken. About 20 cans of Spam... Major empty spaces in the vegetable aisle, but I didn't have time to look and see exactly what.
Finally found some Knox gelatin. I only keep 1 extra box because it gets too hard to use.
They only had the really cheap bread that you can't even make a sandwich out of, and the majorly expensive kind. None of the mid priced.
Limits of 1 on TP, rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and hand sanitizer, all of which they had very little of. They only had about 20 of the 8 roll packs of store brand paper towels, nothing else. They only had 2 boxes of the store brand 30 gallon trash bags. I kicked myself when I got home, I should have bought both of them. They did have plenty of Hefty brand but they're too expensive and they break easier.
Last time I was there, the candy was with the shampoo? Half the time I think their stockers are drunk. They had very little candy this time. They keep moving things and spreading the aisles out so that the sheeple can't tell they have very little stock.

I wear a small shoe size for a woman. I have a hard time finding what I need so, when I find shoes that I like in my size, I buy them. You could say that I almost have a shoe fetish. Because of that, I have plenty of shoes to hopefully last, until the shortage is over. I haven't bought any new ones in awhile, and I hate to see the prices when I do need new ones.

On TB every waking moment
Asked our local tiny grocery store if they could order case lots for me a couple of weeks ago. Sure, they said. So I made a list and handed it over.

Little did I know the old owners were in the process of selling the business. That slowed down my order till the new owner came on board and okayed it.

Order went in Friday for 5 cases of various canned veggies, and the truck delivered today. Of the 5 cases ordered I got 3. What to do, they asked. Reorder it all, I said. Cost less than I expected at least.

15 oz cans, 24 cans/case, store/generic brand (Hy-Top) but I have never had issues with any of their products. So next Wed we try again and see what comes in.

No one made any promises about availability or price over the whole time, the manager decided to up the next order after this and take some home too.

Boise Winco - fewer beef choices available, but plenty of chicken & pork.
Top sirloin was $12.18/lb & NY Strip was $13.28/lb today. I'm firing up the Blackstone today & expecting friends over tonight so I bit the bullet and bought it -- but OMG!

Went to Aldi today in Piedmont, NC...it was a very good trip. Hamburger (70/30) was $2.49/lb limit 2. Bone-in chicken thighs $1.29/lb limit 2. From reports in other areas, I was expecting much higher prices here, too. Veges and fruits were abundant, not too much price increase. Green peppers, zucchini, lettuce higher price but available. Zucchini would be equivalent to 60 cents each. I'll be trying to give those away before long. You know how it goes. There's one on the plant one evening and by morning, it's a baseball bat! :-) Small seedless watermelon $1.89 each. Milk $2.98 gallon. Bacon $3.49/lb no limit. Nathan's hot dogs were up $1 to $4.49 pack. Sugar and flour had each had a limit of 2 bags. No TP.

Speaking of zucchini...if you have a lot of those, when the tomatoes come on, you can make a mock lasagna. Slice onion, tomatoes and zucchini into rounds. Put a layer each vegetable, sprinkle with oregano (if desired), then add a layer of shredded mozzarella. Repeat to fill your baking pan. On top of the final layer of mozzarella, place slices of bacon...however many slices you want. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes. It will get VERY juicy so make sure the pan is deep enough or you have something under in case it runs over. I can usually do 2 layers in a glass 9 X 13 cake pan.

A while back, my body forgot how to sleep. Seriously. But after a few years of this my doctor convinced me to try a sleep med, which actually does help. FF a couple years, and it's impossible to get my dosage but the pharmacy said if my doc would rewrite the script at half dose, then double the amount I'd be good. After a week of working it all out I got it today.

4X what it cost me before. Was $30/mo, now $120/mo. For one month's script. I am looking into alternatives but it may be back to no sleep here. Kind of affects how much I can accomplish in a day :)

Sue... see if the manufacturer has any help available. It's more common with the really expensive meds, but would be worth a try.

Otherwise, cannabis might be worth trying... I suspect it woukd have to be something that contains THC, not just CBD, and you'd probably have to experiment to find a good dose for you. But sleep is essential for health!

CBN is the medical tincture available where it is legal for sleep. You can also purchase CBD-THC tinctures that are small dosages. I get around 3 hrs sleep from CBN by itself and 4 if I mix it with 1 mg of Melatonin. You can also purchase tea bags from the medical marijuana stores whose effects are similar to a glass of wine. Insomnia sucks hope this is helpful.

Hmmm. You know, my brother is telling me the same thing. No high, just a possible sleep aid. Sigh. Might be what I will have to try...I appreciate your input!
