The wife just picked up a bit of the mountain house freeze dried. I was reading on another board that they went off line and Costco was out....supposed to be temporary, but who knows.

Just wish Sams or Costco would carry the brand of dog food that I use - they don't.

I would think for the most part any shortages noticed are only temporary at this point. I expect that to change in the next few months into long-term shortages.

Pay close attention to meat and fish prices. I got King Crab for 10.99/lb, T-bone steaks(Meaty filet side) for 6.99/lb, and, in fact, I was told I missed pork roast for .59/lb, all 1 day sales. On my way over, it occurred to me that the Chinese are no longer able to receive meat from the US by ship, and they are the largest consumer of King Crab, for instance. I think the next 2 months or so will have many sales on Crab, as well as pork products.

Hope so.

Went to Walmart today, looking around for hand sanitizer. When I found it, i bought the last big Walmart brand bottle; the shelf was almost empty. in the meantime, i was near the end of the sanitizing wipe (Chlorox kind of thing), and saw several customers select three-packs, get a spray bottle or two, and keep shopping. One person wearing a mask. Unsure why a Thursday at the end of the month should be such a big shopping day- long lines, parking lot full.

Doom is ALWAYS 6 Months Away...
Was just at our local supermarket a couple of hours ago and no shortages or anything missing. I picked up a few items and everything seemed normal. The USA public has yet to wake up I guess. We still have a week or so until “Panic” buying in the USA sets in I think

Maybe, but we need to also expect that quick as a couple national news reports,
showing anxious crowds and shelves emptying, it'll begin in earnest nationwide.

Haven't noticed shortages in MI. But the last two months we noticed our grocery bill creeping up in cost. 50% more know for roughly the same items.

Since 1999
I made a trip to KC (actually Independence) today.

First stop was St Luke's Medical for thyroid blood test so my doc will give me a longer perscription than the normal 3 months...I'm asking for 1 year. No one wearing masks. No questions about anything. No one coughing up a lung.

Next was Costco... I saw 4 other people prepping. One guy had a cart with several big bags of rice and then was busy shucking canned chicken into his cart as fast as he could. Others just stocking up on a variety of the normal prep stuff, but definitely not just the normal weekly shoppers. Walked by a couple shoppers that were talking about the virus, but just had the normal few things in their cart so not prepping. Store was well stocked. I didn't see any emergency type food, but lots of rice. (pic below).

Grabbed some lunch and decided to check out local Sam's Club less than a mile away from the Costco. I hadn't been there in years and would have to re-up my membership, but thought I'd just check. The store had seriously gone 'ethnic'. Total different clientele than the Costco. Store was dirty and not stocked. No one prepping and I just looked at all of them thinking....just wait.

I shop a lot at Aldi's and local grocery store, so I go by their prices as much as possible. KC stores are a lot more expensive than where I live as far as meat prices and produce. So as always knowing you prices help.

Shopped the local Winco in SW Wa state, well stocked and didn’t look like anyone was doing anything different than usual. I’ve got plenty of M House #10 cans, individual MH pouches, MREs. Now I’m just buying 2-3 of whatever I buy each week instead of 1.

We headed to LaGrange GA today for some more shopping. Publix was about normal, both in traffic and stock. Walmart had lots of empty spots in the health and beauty section. We could not find hand sanitizer, masks or gloves anywhere, and of course, there were no employees to ask. They may have been there somewhere, but we looked and looked to no avail. Then we went to Aldi's. The store was busier than we've ever seen it and they had a lot of holes or low stock of items. This is very abnormal for this particular store. I saw one other guy grabbing cases like we were. No masks or gloves being worn at any of them.

For me it's acid reflux. Tried multiple times to stop omeprasole, once as long as six weeks
stomach acid hell without it, it seriously affects impacts my life. I've got a years supply. Kaiser Perm pharmacy sell it for $11.99 for six weeks of pills.

I've lost weight and am now in the 190's range and can go missing a day. But when I was heavier no way could I skip a pill.

Try ginger pills; you might be able to go off omepraole.

I buy most things on Prime but the last week I've switched to other stores like Walgreens. I was noticing that when I went to buy items a lot of them were with affiliates. That gave me a hint that Amazon warehouses are getting short on a lot of items.

On The Level
Went to Hannafords today, late morning. It seemed like it was busier than normal and carts were full. Can't say I saw anyone prepping. There were a couple young women, just out of college looking, and a Mom, all looking at pasta. Saw a younger man buy 3 loaves of bread. More than a few people in the canned veggie aisle.

It felt like there was something in the air and that those people were buying more than usual. The check out was busy with big orders.

Been ordering things here and there off Amazon. Got 24 cans of my favorite tuna in olive oil today! Also Vitamin D arrived.

Going out to grab a few more things tomorrow.

I was in our local Walmart, no hand sanitizer and no masks or gloves. Went over to CVS and they had a notice at the register about why they were out of masks and gloves, next up was Dollar store which had tons of hand sanitizer

I saw more full carts than usual in Costco today. Quite a bit of TP and paper towels in the carts.

Garden seeds were just put on display at Fleet Farm and the lady ahead of me in the checkout had over 100 packets.

Wally World run yesterday in Central FL. No one buying anything extra at all. Lots of rice, dried beans and canned everything. I dropped $250 on canned stuff of high calorie counts like Ravioli, peanut butter, several large cartons of oatmeal, TP, pastas, a few dozen sticks of butter, several pounds of sausage and so on. I also got a 3 pack of 7 Dust for my garden. This was my second run this week, will do another this weekend after the pension check hits the bank.

I have a plie of freeze dried but am not buying more now because you get double the food amount buying canned and dried stuff and if this does what we think, there is no advantage in having 30 year shelf life food if you have to eat it in 2 months.

I expect that the sheep run may start this weekend, since it has a Friday payday and a firs of the month pay date for those who receive a single check each month.

Went to the Costco in Issaquah, Wa. which is right across the street from their corporate HQ and the shelves were well stocked and not many people there, which caught me by surprise.

My husband and I both noticed and thought it odd that the back aisle that has all their TP, Kleenex, paper towels and water were So well stocked that they were three pallets deep. Deep enough that I couldn't see the posted prices above.

They moved all the different rices to a proper aisle instead of the north wall and there was quite a lot of rice, never seen so much!

I made mention of this to the cashier and she and the cashier at the next register told me that yesterday was completely different.

It was a total Shitshow!

They said that they'd never seen it that crowded with huge long lines winding around the aisles to all the checkouts, that whole shelves were emptied out, TP and all the normal panic buying stuff, so now they tripled up on their stock.

They have a ton of Sambucol stocked, as well as Emergen-C, no Zicam and they never carry masks there (just in case anyone in the area was wanting to go there).

I said that I saw yesterday morning that All of the local tv stations in Seattle were reporting on the Corona virus, about saying that everyone should be stocking up, and buy masks (in a very alarming tone but then they're saying out the other side of their mouths not to panic) when I saw that on Q13 repeatedly all morning long, I thought, "Well Sh*t! Now everyone will be going crazy looking for masks and I know that most places were out three weeks ago, people were already 'quietly' prepping.

So I wasn't surprised one bit by what I was told this morning by the cashiers at Costco.

And to think, this is at the end of the month when many folks are out of money and waiting to get paid.

This next week may really be bad shopping wise. V

This is a good time to suggest to people that if you have a garden or even an apartment balcony, you might want to plant a lot of herbs and also even if you're stuck with a tiny balcony, you can always make a 'privacy screen' by planting beans.

Just put up some netting for them to climb and you're good to go, it'll give you shade which will keep your apartment cooler this summer and give you some good food. V

Northern Vermont - hand sanitizer getting hard to find. CVS was completely out and the grocery store was too except for a few large containers mixed in with the hand soap.

Big Lots medicine section looking picked over. Everything else seems to be mostly stocked.

Wish I could find a very large bottle of Soy Sauce!!
Try online! Amazon probably has it for sure, but also WalMart and others. WalMart ships free with a $35 order... you can probably easily find enough other groceries to reach that...

I wanted a gallon of Worcestershire sauce... I'd finally used up my last gallon, and that restaurant supply place is out of business. Paying $3+ for a 5 ounce bottle was nuts! I found a gallon of brand name (but not Lea and Perrins) sauce at WalMart online for under $8...

Oddly my wife just made a comment about going out this weekend and stocking up at Costco.
She does not usually say stuff like that.
I secretly squirrel stuff away. Some stuff she doesn't even know I have stashed. Like 50 pounds of bread flour, probably 75 pounds of sugar and 50 pounds of rice.
Might hit the restaurant store for some stuff. Maybe I'll take her there and wow her. She's never been to the place. Nothing like meat still on the hoof in the walk in section.

I did go go Walmart in Batavia NY and got three ten lb bags of rice. Only half the rice was there, but enough to buy some. I get the smaller bags cuz i can't carry a huge bag with a bad back and being 70 now. I didn't look thro the isles cuz my back was hurting bad. Will look next wk. I want to go back and get 4 more bags of rice, but got a bad snowstorm here and have to wait. Home depot was out of most of the masks. Only had a few on the shelf. A wk ago they had more. They are now selling a three pak of clorox wipes for 5 bucks and a 5 pack for 12 bucks. Nice deal. I do have buckets of rice up in the attic area, but don't know how much so want to get more and keep it downstairs. And i can feed it to the dogs mixed with the spam stuff. I put the spam in a strainer and run warm/not water over it and squeeze out all the salt. Works good.

I don't understand. Maybe someone can tell me. I thought hand sanitizer only kills bacteria and not virus? Why are people buying and using it if it does not kill virus? Or does it wash it off the hands? Cause i never buy it, but maybe i should?

No, as long as the sanitizer contains at least 70% alcohol, it will kill this virus. Use plenty, though... apparently some of the foaming types don't really soak your hands thoroughly- or long- enough.

But a thorough soap and water wash is still the best, when you can.

This isn't much use to most of you, but I was in the nearest regional town today (in Gippsland, Vic, Australia). Didn't know what to expect after the PM's speech yesterday and the pics from Ballarat. The chemist was sold out of hand sanitizer, and I heard two people asking the staff if they had any in the five minutes I was there. Went to the biggest supermarket; again, hand sanitizer was sold out, as well as the cheap brands of UHT and powdered milk, though there were plenty of the more expensive brands. The flour shelves were about 3/4 empty, which I've never seen before. There were decent dents in the supplies of gloves and bleach, but still plenty left. Plenty of TP, tinned goods, rice, etc. I saw two couples who had long lists and seemed to be stocking up judging by the volumes of long-life foods in their trolleys, but otherwise business as usual.

Live Free & Die Free.... God Freedom Country....
Made a run to Sherman Texas today.... Got there just after 2 pm and just returned home.

Drove by Walmart first, but to many cars so was the last stop tonight and the store had a few customers. The stocking guys and gals were stocking all over the store including in the pharmacy area. Vitamins shelves were thin, but being restocked. The prophylactic area was thin as it was after Valentine's Day. Pocket size hand sanitizer was sold out, but standard size bottles of sanitizer were available. The grocery shelves were being restocked, but no empty shelves. Plenty of stocked canned meat. Did not notice anyone with overflowing shopping carts.

At Tractor supply did not see any empty shelves, but was not shopping for masks or nitrile gloves. Acquired additional dog food and dog snacks and chicken scratch and sweet feed for the animals. The DW will have to make a run to Tractor Supply in Paris for chicks since she knows what she wants.

At Lowe's, the only empty shelf was where masks were kept with a sign stating: "Sold out and do not know when there will be a delivery. Sorry."

At Sam's, there were a number of customers, but no crowds. The twenty pound bags of beans were gone, but large bags of beans were available. The rest of the store was adequately supplied except for the large bottles of hand sanitizer probably about twenty to thirty bottles of hand sanitizer. Plenty of stocked shelves in the grocery section and across the store. The Sam's store has been renovated, so having to learn the new layout.

At Kroger's, normal number of customers, but no crowds. Did not see anyone with an overflowing shopping cart but a couple that were full. Shelves were well stocked. Got what I went after, especially the specials.

At Albertson's, normal number of customers, but no crowds. Did not see anyone with an overflowing shopping cart.. Shelves were well stocked. Pork roast was 79 cents per pound, but bought country pork ribs due to preference. Got what I went after, especially the specials and Just For You specials. Again scored 30 cents off a gallon of gasoline.

Specials and Just for You savings was nearly $150.

Did not notice any changes in pricing.

This will be my last run to Sherman for a while. Will be ordering more on line. Orders from earlier in the week are being delivered.

Used hand sanitizer before going into each store and rubbed the shopping cart handle with hand sanitizer and then the provided disinfecting wipes and used hand sanitizer when returned to the car. Used a glove with hand sanitizer on the gas pump nozzle.

Only heard two people cough at Sam's so went a different direction. It is still common flu season.

Deliveries from now on will be sanitized under the car port.

Be careful out there for it will get a lot more crowded in the stores and if violence does not break out, it will be a miracle.

Texican....

Did my weekly shopping at my local ShopRite (North Jersey) and spoke to the overnight manager (of the shelf stockers). He said that people seem to be stocking up more than usual, but it has not gotten crazy and they have no shortages of anything yet.

I am now back above 50 pounds of pasta and lots of breakfast cereal for my family.
