Just had a normie lefty contact me and ask what she should be stocking up on. She's pulling her money from the market and her family is stocking up. Her daughter works for a doctor and the business trips to Europe have all been cancelled. she's panicking.

It's starting. I've been telling people for weeks to panic early and avoid empty shelves. They are finally listening.
I'm pointing ever more people to this book or kindle here...
And, will do even more so, as I get busier taking care of my own stuff.

Panic Early, Beat the Rush!

I've been ordering more online, but ran into Walmart today. Grabbed a few grocery items; nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The actual reason for the trip was art/stationary supplies for grandson. And oddly enough, THAT aisle was at least 3/4 empty. Poked around and found ONE 20 pack of fine Crayola markers, and ONE pack of pencil leads. (There were other markers, but his Asperger's requires the exact brand...LOL!) Everything else I will have to get online; they may just be items they don't normally carry.

Costco on the Big Island of Hawaii. No dried beans. (Grocery stores have them for $4 a pound.) I went to Costco early Monday morning. That is usually a quiet time in the store. It was packed ! People were lined up about 15 people deep at every cash register. Costco had hired lots of clerks to constantly stock the shelves.Everything was about 10% more than it was 2 weeks ago.Butter was almost gone and usually they have lots ! Everyone had a full cart .
Most food here comes on barges. If those barges stop all hell will break loose. Don't you want to come to Hawaii on vacation ?

Wow. I was going to recommend getting crayons and markers at the dollar store because they all crack and dry out anyway, but they don't usually carry Crayola.

Which reminds me - if you have kids, stock up on activities for them in case they have to stay home for a while. Dollar store coloring books, crayons and puzzles are some cheap ideas. They can also be used for barter with desperate parents ;-)

Great idea to stock up. Our Dollar Tree is spotty; they have some great workbooks (even for adults..fancy coloring, dot-to-dot into the 1000's, etc.), some of the toys are good quality and some break in 2 seconds, but their off brand crayons are horrible!

Just got back from Sam's club in Huntsville Alabama. I was out buying my daughter and granddaughter a months worth of food for a rotating pantry. Everything was in stock and crowd was low. None of the carts looked like folks stocking up.

I noticed a couple of people here were and only because they were talking about the virus. Otherwise yeah not a dent anywhere. Like I told Orion Commander panic early and avoid the mob!

The art aisle being empty this time of the year has more to do with IRS refunds and the fact that artists are stocking up for the year, seriously. Several of the online places I typically buy from have been sending me emails with come ons to buy. I’m thinking some raised panel frames are a must right now, and they’re dirt cheap!

Well, it wasn't the "real" art area...this is a 6 year old! Maybe they're going to rearrange soon, who knows?? I don't go often enough any more to compare very well!

What to stock up on???

Start simple, what things do you use every day? Buy More!
You use Toilet paper everyday? Start there.
Use paper towels every day, that's next
Do you shower, brush your teeth, shampoo your hair? Stock up!
Shave? Wherever? Razors blades
How's your feet? Will AF itch drive you crazy if you don't have AF cream?
Crotch rot? They have a cream for that, get more

For me it's acid reflux. Tried multiple times to stop omeprasole, once as long as six weeks
stomach acid hell without it, it seriously affects impacts my life. I've got a years supply. Kaiser Perm pharmacy sell it for $11.99 for six weeks of pills.

I've lost weight and am now in the 190's range and can go missing a day. But when I was heavier no way could I skip a pill.

This isn't rocket science, buy extra of the things you use everyday.....start there
Next get stuff that without it, your is life miserable.

I can't find Friskies cat food in 13 oz cans anywhere. Not in Walmart or Dollar General stores.

I do subscribe and save on Amazon. I keep diapers and baby wipes on there to be delivered each month for my little one. The baby wipes brand that I use are out of stock and the paper towels are too. I'm very thankful I have cloth diapers! And the laundry soap I buy has gone up too.

Sams Club in Lawton/Fort Sill this morning. Plenty of beans. Basmati and jasmine rice was well stocked. One 40 pound bag of plain long grain white rice left. Everything else was normal.

Chewy says they still carry it, but I don't know if you want to order online.
I only buy the 5.5 oz cans but I had to go to online ordering because the local stores are always out.

Have you been tested for food allergies? Just asking as that can often cause reflux issues.

Try a keto diet. For many it stops acid reflux, and can reset the stomach so it doesn't come right back when eating carbs.

Have had a case of Red Feather canned butter and some B&M canned brown bread on my Amazon list for a while. They seemed to have both substantially increased in price in the last day or so. Guess I’ll wait a while longer. Going to make another last minute run to the big box grocery tomorrow. Won’t get much, but I’ll be watching people. Doubt I’ll see anything interesting.

Just returned from Walmart, and they were well stocked. The main things I noticed, was the toilet tissue was a touch low, and they had 2 very large displays of cleaning supplies set up right in the entrance as you walk in.

We went to the Sam’s in Columbus GA today around lunchtime. I don’t know what was going on, but the place was packed! Every register was going and had lines. I don’t remember ever seeing it like this on a weekday early afternoon.

The only real hole I saw was Excedrin, but I remember someone here saying that before. The sign said they expect to be out of it through March. The only really low supply I saw was evaporated milk. There were only a handful of those left.

There was another lady grabbing rubbing alcohol while I was and she said the price was up a dollar since last week.

Yep, I just shifted around my couple cases of B&M brown bread cans this morning. Nothing beats it for something different at breakfast, with yer coffee, or with baked beans when too lazy (or sick?) to bake. Great to take camping, hunting/fishing or to the cabin, too. Some of this ready made "comfort" stuff can prove priceless.

I don't remember where i read it....could have been here, but i read that you can use a crayon for a candle. Light the tip and stick it in some crayon you dripped on a plate. I suppose for emergencies, but candles are much better.

Yep. On my local talk radio he is talking about corona virus and N95 masks and such, but just a week ago he was poo pooing the whole thing. Now he has a different tune. Now for sure the sheep will be woke. The station is in Buffalo NY.

I'm making a Walmart list for a quick stop-in tomorrow after my dentist appointment. One thing I did notice as I hopped onto their app to see my usual favorites was that the price of coffee creamer went up! I know, I know. This stuff is bad for you. (I jokingly call it "Creamate.") But it's a minor vice. Anyway, I have never, ever seen it anywhere more than $4.99. Most of the time at Wallyworld it's $4.49, and I usually stock up on it when it's on sale for $3.99.

Can't help but to wonder if it's the packaging/container supply that's driving prices up, as I can't imagine the ingredients are made in China. (Or if they are, I don't want to know.) Either way, this is one big jump in price.

Huh, I'm going to have to try lighting a crayon when I get home...LOL!

Just got back from WM, half way between San Antonio and Corpus Christi, store staff were busy stocking shelves. We were doing touch up shopping, did not see any panic buying. No one in masks or gloves.

Got out of town before Trump spoke tonight. Stopped for burgers on the way home, Trump was on the TV but no one seemed to be paying attention.

One of my local Home Depots (North Jersey) is sold out of *all* masks - including the more expensive respirator types.

I verified the following on the Costco.com website and indeed all emergency food has been sold out.

Costco Sells Out Of Emergency Food Kits Online Amidst Coronavirus Outbreak

costco-sells-out-coronavirus.jpg
Costco Wholesale, which is one of America's biggest suppliers of long-term storable food, sold out of all their "emergency food kits" on their website after the CDC warned that Americans should be prepared in case the coronavirus becomes a pandemic.

Visitors to the "Emergency [Food] Kits & Supplies" section of their website are currently greeted with a message saying, "We're sorry, no products were found."

When I visited their site on Tuesday, only two products were listed, one of which was a large bin of macaroni and cheese. The site gave an error when I tried to open the page and said it was sold out. On Wednesday, the page was down altogether.

A Twitter user shared a screenshot of their page on Monday highlighting how they sold out of their $4,999 pallets:

Costco has sold out of the $4999 pallet with 1 year's worth of food (2800 servings!), but the 23 lb mac-and-cheese bucket with up to 20-year shelf life is still available.https://t.co/N28YCvGciL pic.twitter.com/QXdZMkhe9c
— Fat Tail Capital (@FatTailCapital) February 24, 2020

I visited a local Costco warehouse to stock up on Wednesday morning and didn't see any emergency food kits, though there was plenty of 12-25 lbs bags of rice.

Only one rice variety out of 5 or so was low on stock. The shelves were mostly full. I only saw one older Asian woman wearing a face mask (they're sold out everywhere).

The Mormon Church, which asks all their followers to always have an emergency food supply that will last their families 90 days, has a handy guide on their website for the best foods to buy or avoid, with a focus on long-term storage.

food-guide-long-term-storage.jpg

The Organic Prepper also has a useful guide.

The Spanish flu, which is believed to have been a bird flu as opposed to a possible bat coronavirus, lasted two years.

It's probably a wise decision to at least stock up on the basics you normally eat to get ahead of the crowd.

In America, for the time being, the biggest threats are to our supply chains.

I didn’t see much at all on my quick grocery trip today. Shelves mostly full, few customers...it was pretty sleepy. In my burg in Ohio, doesn’t look like anyone is awake yet on the Covid. I don’t do Costco or Sam’s Club, but this is a big box store. Those others are too far a drive for my trouble.

Heard a few women yapping about the virus just before the start of a spinning class last week. They seemed a bit dismissive of the risk. One was taking a cruise to Hawaii this week, and wondered if she should bring hand sanitizer. The exercise club is providing Lisol spray for the bikes and it seems popular.
