Take the Hormel tamales and unwrap them. Put them in an oven proof dish (single layer). Add the sauce from the can and cover with shredded cheese. Sprinkle some chopped cilantro over them and place in a 350 degree oven until hot and the cheese melts. Not as good as homemade but still very good.
We live in a highly Hispanic town; we can get amazing homemade tamales delivered to us at work, $15/dozen. Canned tamales aren't even the same animal. But...I still like them! :) The way you do them, or at least microwaved with cheese.

Went to the local WM today and noticed that the once empty shelves of TP, paper towels, bleach and printer ink are once again back to "normal" levels. Although all the containers of bleach were smaller than the gallon size they used to have and the price for those smaller jugs were double of what the gallon jugs used to be. :shk: Supply and demand I reckon.

I grew up eating them, but I always put ketchup on them. :hmm:

My 3/4 Mexican cousins put ketchup on theirs. They corrupted my husband and children to do the same. I am embarrassed beyond belief.

Seriously when I was home for my dads funeral I wanted to throat punch my sister in law when she put ketchup on her fried chicken. Talk about nasty... and then she put it on the Mac an$ cheese.

And that **** tells everyone I’m a bad cook. Dude if you have to put ketchup on it your not a good cook!

On TB every waking moment

Look, I don’t care
Posted July 30, 2020 By Ruth

I don’t care if you think everyone should be wearing masks.
I don’t care if you think masks are useless.
I don’t care if you think the pandemic is going to kill us all.
I don’t care if you think it’s all a hoax.

You know what I care about?

The lowly retail employee who went from being vilified as a minimum wage drone to applauded as an essential worker in the space of a week. The cashier who got told they were putting their life on the line so that people could buy something. The sales floor employee who got told they were probably going to get sick so that people could buy something. The retail employee who spent 4 months getting a minimum “hazard bonus” for working double shifts to try to keep the store open while the rest of the world lost their collective brains.
The slightly simple greeter who gets assholes yelling at him because we dare to have signs up spelling out the states facial covering mandate.

The service desk worker who has assholes yelling at her because we don’t kick out someone who’s not wearing a mask.

The sales floor employee who’s getting yelled at multiple times a days because “why the **** aren’t you carrying bird seed any more?!” (seriously, bird seed, I’ve had more pissed off people over the lack of bird seed than anything else this past week)
The specialty department supervisor who’s almost old enough to be MY mother who’s been doing this her whole life who walked off the sales floor in tears after dealing with that one last asshole on the sales floor last week.

It’s not the fault of anyone in the store that we’re out of what you want to buy. We’re stocking out onto the shelves every single god damned thing we can find that even kinda sorta fits. And the company is using every bit of their pretty massive buying power to try to get us stuff to put onto the shelves.

It’s not the fault of anyone in the store that the state not only wrote up a facial covering mandate but has started fining stores for each unmasked person they find in the store.

I suppose it might be our fault for not turning away people who aren’t wearing masks, but since we carry some pretty essential supplies the company has decided they’re not going to do that. And frankly if you want to come stand at our door and try to stop that big ass angry dude from coming in without a mask then feel free. Frankly I’m not paid enough, and neither is anyone else in the store.

If you want to bitch about something the company might actually be able to control feel free to take it up with the corporate office.

If you want to bitch about the politics of it feel free to take it up with your local politicians.

Don’t take it out on the people who’re way to massively overworked and underpaid and who don’t have any control over it anyway.

(and yes, all the described incidents of asshole customers have all happened, either to me personally, or where I could see them happen to a co-worker. I seriously have no idea how in hell this country made it through the last few months without some kid working their first retail job losing it completely and going postal on customers, I really don’t.)

So I did my normal curbside pickup and they were out of some things:
Corn on the cob
Hormel Tamales :p
Ice
Disinfecting wipes
Hash brown patties
3# Bacon

They subbed the bacon with 3 1# packages. The odd thing is I went to the store closest to me to get the other items- same company- Smiths (Kroger), and they were full of everything! Canned goods full and not just front lining the shelves. Everything was full except cleaning supplies.

Now- when to try the infamous Hormel Tamales....

Did some shopping today (central VA) - got mainly everything needed, but am starting to see gaps on shelves, and more limits on items. Stores included a dollar tree, Walmart, and food lion.

Cleaning supplies were low with limits, canned veggies had many gaps, limits on paper products. Plenty of soda available. Rice plentiful. Pasta picked over a bit.

Things I noticed, but didn’t need - No cleaning wipes anywhere. Hand sanitizer has tripled in price.

Dollar tree did have Hormel tamales in the can. I’ve never had them, but with so many mentioning them, thought I’d mention it.

Slow and steady the prepping continues ......

my local Aldi is out of quite a few canned items and has been for a three weeks now. There's no tomato paste and yesterday there were 3 cans of tomato sauce left. The limit of 4 canned goods per item has been lowered to 1 on many things. I'm feeding 6 people here, no kids at all and I'm telling one can isn't even worth opening. Walmart did have tomato paste, one brand only though. Cleaning supplies are still low at WM and HT almost to the point of being non-existant.

I was worried that my Aldi (Mid-Atlantic) had gone back to limits, so I went in and checked before I even got a buggy. Quite a few people were buying flats of veggies. One couple had 2 entire carts of stuff. I try to stay under the radar, but now I'm thinking I need to make another run. Aside from the store being out of a lot of things, they have gone to more and more what they call "Aldi finds" which to me is 2 1/2 aisles of worthless crap. I go there for groceries!

I heard a rumor last night that the local Save-A-Lot is closing. Last time I was in there, a couple of weeks ago, I managed to get a package of wipes. I went with my sister and we commented to each other that we couldn't find wipes anywhere. A stocker on the next aisle heard us, went to the back and got them for us. She said that they kept them in the back because they were disappering so often. I think that wasn't the only thing.

That may not be just a rumor. All the Save-A-Lot stores in and around our area have closed already. I can name 3 different ones.

My house guests are gone for the weekend, so figured that I'd better get some errands run, even if it WAS Saturday. Ugh. Stopped at the liquor store for more beer and actually got to see the little gals behind the counter bark at a guy for coming in the door without a mask. Ha. Ha.

The grocery store was good. Not really any holes, but I did notice that the selection of bottled salad dressing was sorta limited. Took up about half the space it usually does. That could be a container problem....who knows.

Finally dawned on me the ONE advantage to wearing a mask at the grocery store. When I grumble at the dickhead who's parked his car right in front of the door - then proceeds to roll backwards, then forwards half a dozen times before he figures out which direction he's going so I can't walk either behind OR in front of his car - I can say "What in the actual EFF are you doing?" - and he can't see my mouth move. Also, the tard who parks their motorized ass-cart DIAGONALLY blocking the grocery store aisle, then proceeds to waddle off somewhere 50 feet away so nobody else can get through....well...I won't even quote my somewhat salty words...just wear an innocent face above the mask, and nobody is the wiser. Sweet.

Is Carhartt the brand to buy for decent coveralls?

This week was Arkansas and Missouri..... no huge issues with supply .....paper products decent but noticeably low..... Two noticeable takeaways for me are there are a LOT more people in Walmart now and black folks and some others are NOT social distancing.......they could care less.......I had someone touch me today.......

Yes. A Minnesota staple.

Insulated Carhartts are the official winter uniform anytime past October. Especially the coveralls. They wear like iron, and are warm as toast.

Church, funerals, weddings, work or play. The stamp of a seasoned Native. Many options for temperature control. There's of course the zipped down front. Then there's the zipped down with the top half down and hanging. If all else fails (in the house for a while, fish house got too warm or standing too close to the fire) and you don't want to be seen in your underwear, unzip the side leg zippers - can be then also rolled/folded up.
