The baby green ones are the ones we love and I try to keep a good stock of those because Ham & Limas are one of my husband's absolute favorite meals. But the dry ones are harder to find than they used to be. I can get frozen baby green limas pretty much every trip to the store (and I do have those in bulk). The frozen ones are really good, Pictsweet brand.
Cajon Grocer has them . Small size to 25 lbs.

Just ran thru the local Fred Meyer and saw several shortages, but there was a big restocking crew working; they just did a big rearrangement of store layout, as FM does every few years.

Space. The aisles are noticeably wider, there are a lot of huge vacant spaces, where entire aisles have been replaced with pretty much nothing. As well, the options are fewer. I’ll have to go back tomorrow and see just how stocked they are after today. But it is pretty remarkable how much empty space is there now. It’s a big store.

ETA pic from the store today. They are done rearranging, and there are MANY empty shelves - perhaps they may have stock coming for them. You can see three entire aisles were removed here; toward the back of the pic can be seen a lady standing in the now very wide cosmetics aisle. There are other redone areas in the store also now very empty. (Side note, no one wore masks.) ALL the aisles are now very wide. Some specialty areas made smaller (high-end cheese station, fresh sushi station) but at least they are still there.

Short on many things and they just restocked Thurs.

I found Xlear nasal spray here of all things. Have only seen it at Walgreens before, and they’ve been out for months and months.

Neither here nor there.
Went to the Sam’s club here in town today. Huge holes! Now that said there are two things going on here locally, Sam’s has started a huge remodel and their putting in a bakery and a new deli. This weekend is move out move in day, university town. Walmart was slammed didn’t even attempt to go there, Aldi was also slammed, very few holes. Petco finally has lots of wet cat food back in stock.

Now...

Get this, went to the local shoe store and bought myself a cute pair of boots for this fall, 5hey still have the rugged heel, but no safety toe so definitely a dress boot. So I ended up with cute ankle boots by Taos. While we’re there OC and the owner are talking and there is a huge shortage of eyelets and those hook thingies, and boot zippers. Apparently there are warehouses filled with unfinished boots and shoes, no one knows when those items will be back in stock. So, we bought me the boots today instead of waiting until October because I may not be able to buy them then. Smart wool socks on back order almost eight months now.

I’m not finding dehydrated minced onion or garlic. The onions at Sam’s looked really good, not mushy at all, so I bought a bag of yellow onions and a bag of sweet onions.

Stopped by Aldi yesterday for a few things. They had no sliced bread. Completely empty. They had specialty bread like sourdough, naan, and stuff like that but no sandwich bread. There was only a little hamburger and hotdog buns.

Talking with the guy that checked me out. I told him I was glad I didn't use that kind of bread. He said they didn't get bread the day before even though it was on their truck list, so he didn't know where it went. And he didn't get any on today's truck either. He thought it was pretty weird.

All in all the rest of the store looked pretty normal. They had marked down their flour to $1.19 a bag, which is still way more than it used to be.

I'm putting together list for Aldi and Walmart on stock up stuff where I need to fill a few holes. All the freezers are full of meat thank God. I'd hate to pay the prices they are getting now.

Check Academy for smart wool socks. Ours always have them and a lot of times on sale. Also, try the wool Thorlos . I like them better than the Smart wool socks.

Stopped at Aldi and the meat store this morning. (N MN) The meat store...always stellar, though their prices were up. I usually only shop the weekly specials. Their custom, on-site smoked and sliced bacon was 4.49/lb this week, so I got some for the freezer. Bulk breakfast or Italian sausage, 2.49/lb., porketta steaks, 2.49/lb. and country style pork ribs, 1.99/lb. Definitely a week to cook with pork again.

Aldi was a bit off. It's late in the week...have noticed that they used to start their ads (and restock) on Wednesdays, but lately have changed to Sunday like everyone else. Have to keep that in mind. Anyway, they had everything I was there for, but fruit and produce seemed down. One guy was looking for organic strawberries...well heck, there weren't any strawberries as far as I could see. No skin off me...I'm flexible, but even in the canned goods, seemed like gaps. Definitely in the baking aisle with the mixes, and the cheese cooler was a bit sparse, though I found my latest, bestest favorite...wedges of white Stilton with blueberries. Yummm. :)

They have two resets a week.. One Tuesday at close (the main add reset) and one on Friday night (refresh add and set additional adds and merch for weekends.)

Had to go into town today so stopped by to get some things. Local owned store. Not big box shelves were not empty but seemed to be less stock. Not sure if that is less than last year when I went. The only thing I couldn't find was boxes of ranch seasoning. They only had packets. I didn't see any folks stocking up. So central Nebraska is fine so far. No severe shortages.

Is academic online? I want thin ones to wear with my new boots.
Yes Academy is online. They have the thin ones most of the time. They’re what I wear in the summertime. Sometimes marked down to 4.98 a pair. I bought every pair our store had. If you can’t find them there, try Backcountry, Moosejaw or Sierra Trading Post.

Plus-one on the Thorlos recommend. My marathon runner/mountain climber son was a buyer and bookkeeper at the premier running store in Anchorage for at least 12 years and was always bringing me sample socks. I do like SmartWool but Thorlo is great.

For athletic activities, I pay a premium price for Feetures, they are worth it.

Ok,ok…I guess I’m now a sock snob. ;)

And re this thread; I’ve not seen athletic-wear/active-wear shortages exactly, but I do see fewer choices, just as at the grocery.

The store I went to today will start selling feetures in September.

I went to the 99cent Store this morning. No shortages that I could see but wow! They were busy! I haven’t seen that since the beginning of the pandemic last year! I think people are catching on to the possibility of another lockdown

Well I did my usual grocery run today, hit up two dollar stores and two Walmarts. These are rural stores.

One Walmart had the Keystone pork we like, so I picked that up. But nothing else in Keystone there.

No Folgers Columbian of any size. I got Great Value Colombian, no idea if its any good or not. I did find my propane at this Walmart and they had a good stock of it.

I got the boxed milk at the Dollar Tree, they had all varities (whole milk etc.), including unsweetened Almond and Vanilla Almond. I picked up some chocolate at the other dollar store.

Second Walmart was a shock. I got the last two packages of real bacon bits. I got the last two Wolf chili with beans. They had almost zero paper products, only huge canisters of coffee, almost zero bottled water. Bread was picked over. Flour was 80% gone. Same with sugar. Propane was down to maybe 12 bottles, no butane.

Even kids toys are way thin. Shelves were nearly empty everywhere. Clothing seemed fine, but I don't need anything. One weird thing, that they did have a ton of was pool chlorine. Pallets of it. I don't have a pool, so it doesn't matter to me. I have enough bleach at home.

I looked hard at peoples carts checking out. Everyone is stocking up hard.

It's coming fast folks.

this isnt a shortage, but the dollar store 15 miles west of Omaha already had halloween candy out, WTF?

It may have just arrived. It could have been sitting in a container or on a loading dock for awhile. I wouldn't buy it, but that's just me.

A lot of folks are going to get paid tomorrow (Aug. 1). I strongly suggest that if you need anything, try to get there a few minutes after the store opens and heed the advice about making substitutions, where possible, if exactly what you want isn't in.

I'm hunting winter socks. There are still some in the pipeline: they've been trickling in over the last two weeks. I'm going to snag what I can tomorrow. I'm not ordering anything at this point! I'm still waiting for several orders I put in about six weeks ago.

I think I am going to add to my chicken feed supply, as well as corn product supply, such as corn meal, corn starch, corn oil, and corn syrup.

Ice Age Farmer has been talking about worldwide corn shortages, and the US crop isn't doing well this year due to drought.
I'm a townie so pardon me if this is a dumb question. I have 100 lbs or so of dent corn in super pails for grinding. Can this be of use to feed chickens? All my neighbors have chickens just about. What's in chicken feed? Would you trade for eggs?

Oh and I also have a case of popcorn. What about it?

My chickens liked dent corn but I gave it to them as a treat. High in fat content so it's good in winter to help them warm up. They would eat that like I used to eat candy corn when I was a kid. Don't know about popcorn though although chickens eat just about anything.

Thanks for the info. What grind do I use?

Thanks for the info. What grind do I use?

Although everywhere online seems to say that corn needs to be broken up / grinded to feed to chickens, I feed whole kernels to all my chickens with no obvious issues. Their crop seems to grind it up just find (as long as they have plenty of access to grit which is not the same thing as oyster shells). I do this specifically because whole kernel corn can be stored for a very long time, where once you crack it open it starts to loose it's nutritional value rather quickly.

My understanding of popcorn is that it is a very different beast, and should not be considered "corn" when thinking about animal feed. However, that does not mean that it can't be fed, I just haven't researched it -- just realize that popcorn may be very different from corn when it comes to animal feed.

(Note: I free range my chickens all day, and they get most of their food that way).

Tractor Supply carries Carhartt wool socks and another brand that I can’t remember.
