I just went to the 99cent Store. They were packed. Only thing a little thin was the canned meats and one empty snack display (not sure what Bimbo is but thinking snacks by the looks of it). Plenty of rice, beans, ramen type soups, pasta, and Gatorade. I wasn't there for food but always peruse these aisles to check them out. No pictures but they had a lot of fresh veggies and a wide variety of peppers which is the real reason I was there plus something for my new office (home office). Dried peppers and spices were plentiful so bought some extras. The other aisles appeared well stocked too.

I went to my local DG and the whole milk cooler was empty! I asked the girl at the checkout and she said it wasn't delivered on the last truck, she thinks another store got it instead. I then went to the local independent grocery store and they had plenty of everything.

Bimbo = Mexican equivalent of Little Debbie
Some of them are pretty good

Its been going up in price for the last several years.

Long before the covid-19 madness, there was a hurricane which tore through the island of Mad.

Much of worlds supply came from there and crops were mostly destroyed. The vanilla bean is from an orchid and takes a long time to mature.

New crops are just starting to mature.

I've been ordering funeral potatoes..packages of a shredded potato/seasoning mix.

Got some two days ago off Amazon for $4.51 per pkg.

Decided to get a few more today and the price has gone up to $10.05 per pkg.

They are made by Augason Farms.
Keep an eye on them. I've seen that happen with the funeral potatoes (and plenty of other items) and many times they will come back down in a matter of days. Not sure if that'll happen now given the circumstances, but always a good idea to check.

Neither here nor there.
Beef pastrami cold cuts at hyvee was $9.95 a pound. That’s typical of HyVee here locally. OC got a five pound bag of russets for $1.69 that said they were wet and he opened the bag when we got h9me. I think he needs to take them out of the bag period.

Can't tell you how many Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme pies I've eaten over the years. So good. Quit sugar about 5 years ago, so that was the end of that, but lots of good memories.
Same here. Those were big treats at our house, growing up, and grandma had stacks of them for us, all kinds at her house! I LOVED the creme pies and star crunch things!

Bimbo is their Wonderbread, for PB & J of Mexican Americans, many soccer/little league teams with sponsor shirts, like Dairy Queen does for many small towns.

I do think they make good effort to support healthy activities for Hispanic children, esp. in urban areas.

Have seen Amazon change prices in my cart in midst of checkout. Very telling. Its our future on the sharecropper plantation with them as the company store.

I no longer put items in the cart too far in advance and absolutely nothing on the wish lists that are public access.

Dennis, if you have a freezer I buy a whole beef tenderloin (or did last month) for $12.99 a pound. They are usually around 8#. I usually get about 15 filets out of it but I am not cutting them as thick as a steak house. I wrap bacon around them and vacuum seal. Lot cheaper than $38 a pound.

Store today. Ribeye $21/lb Tenderloin $38/lb.
I can’t live without beef and meat, since I eat 80-90% carnivore. Thankfully, we bought a quarter cow from a local farmer that I just picked up yesterday. With processing, it came out to $5.80 a pound. As I was putting away all the steaks and roasts in the freezer, I saw a package of tenderloin. I’d wondered what the going rate is. I’m so grateful that we were able to do this. Beef eaters, consider this option if you’re wanting beef at a great price.

Our extra freezer is already full and even so, i doubt I could swing that right now $$$....:(

Do you mind sharing what 1/4 beef cost you?

This is in Southern Wisconsin. We went to Woodman's grocery store on Friday. I don't think I have ever seen such rotten, bad looking broccoli ever!!! There was another person looking at it and we were all opening the boxes they had stacked there. It was all terrible!! I'm hoping next week they will have better quality broccoli there. Otherwise, we will go to a different grocery store.

I understand how you feel about the meat. I do Keto, so there's a meat item with almost every meal. However, my wife and I discussed this the other night, and there may come a point when eating that much meat may not be sustainable, in terms of price and availability, and we're looking into alternate ways to get the fat and protein our bodies need.

Yup...I can "live" without meat. I just choose not to if given an alternative.

A lot of folks are eating low-carb, but it isn't gonna kill us to revert to regular fare.

Went to the grocery store for the first time in about a month last night.
The toilet paper, canned beans, pasta, and pasta sauce was pretty picked over, especially in any of those categories that were also on sale.
What I noticed was the flour section, while it had enough, had a LOT of different brands in it, not stacked all that deep. Like 9 brands of all purpose flour. Before this mess started we would have 2 or 3, and a lot of them.
This gave me the sense that they're sourcing whatever they can get and can't get huge quantities from single producers anymore.

Most everything else was ok, present but also smaller and really expensive.

The Funeral Potatoes are great! I add some spam to them and eat them for 3 days! (I live alone, lol)

I had paid $4.51 last year.

People keep mentioning that if xyz isn't available they go to a different store to get xyz. I'm wondering how long it will be before all stores are unable to stock xyz. We either need to secure a supply of xyz now while it is available or find alternatives to xyz or perhaps both.

Our church always does scalloped potatoes and ham for funeral dinners. I suggested to the head of the committee that it might be a good idea to order a supply to have on-hand and was shot down by we order from Amazon. I didn't bother to point out that if none are available Amazon won't have any either.

A person can have all the money in the world but if there is nothing to buy....
