I'm told it's the same here, too. I haven't renewed my membership and probably won't this year.
I went to Fleet Farm, S. Ankeny Walgreen's, and the Ankeny Super Target this morning. Lots of holes! Fleet Farm had
5 or 6 aisles of heavy winter clothing -- from last winter! -- that just recently arrived. So I bought a Columbia fleece jacket and a heavy button-down sweatshirt on the hottest day of the year. Hey, 30% off! I think I'm set for winter, now.
But summer clothing? Hardly any. That's okay, I re-fashioned several ill-fitting long-sleeved Walmart blouses into well-fitting sleeveless tops.
The Super Target should be full of back-to-school stuff for the children and college students. Major holes in actual school supplies, bedding (twin bedding for college). So, cotton and plastic are the materials in short supply, and I chatted with one of the managers I know who confirmed that a lot of the merchandise is in the US but still either in containers or on a loading dock somewhere. She was concerned about the low stock of back-to-school items.
In any case, I got everything I went after, plus the winter tops.
If I were a parent who needed to fill one of those school lists, I'd start now and get what I could at the Dollar Tree (Family Dollar, etc), then Aldi, and then Walmart. Prices are sky high, so I'd suggest not waiting until the last minute so there's time to check several stores. As a last resort, check places like Staples. Their supplies are generally expensive enough that there might be items left when Aldi and Walmart (etc) sell out.
