Defense Recommendations for Non-Lethal Defense Devices

First off, I know this is TB2K - and I know most of the opinions of most of the posting members here. God love all of you. That said, is anybody willing to face off with the rest for a useful discussion of non-lethal weapons that can be used for self or property defense? Paint ball gun? Tear gas gun? archery/darts? fire crackers that might startle enough to disperse a relatively small group? Wasp spray? Fire extinguisher? No fancy judo moves, if they're that close they won't help, same for canes or batons. Anything thrown that is persuasive ? Brand names? Where to get? (I don't know anything else to suggest for someone).

Much like cops who carry guns, there is also a place for non-lethal force. There’s some situations where pepper spray is enough and then you don’t have to deal with the fall out of shooting someone.

Re-reading your question, it appears you are talking about scenarios where a gun would be considered the best weapon. My first thought would be bear spray or hornet spray.

I assume you really mean "less-lethal". In most states use of any less-lethal weapon carries the same responsibility as the use of a gun. Hence I would just use a gun or use nothing.

I have an air pistol (BB pistol). It looks exactly like a real gun, and I'm sure it would not be pleasant to be shot with one.

I can pretty much guarantee you that any intrusion onto your property - by invaders of ANY kind - will have at least one armed individual >> and if you start in with anything that slightly resembles the use of a firearm - they start shooting - better be ready to respond ...

the police use non-lethal methods AFTER there's plenty of armed & ready officers present to kill if necessary - all kinds of instances of whacked out single individuals tearing the ever living crap after multiple uses of various non-lethal methods ...

if it's post-SHTF - a WROL scenario - desperate group descends on you >>> be ready to KILL - not going to be much alternatives there - face full of mace will only make them mad and more desperate - find the leaders of the group and make sure they go first to God ...

I had a similar conversation with my BIL, who I respect greatly. My question was this, at what point should deadly force be used? Anything less than deadly force will come back to bite you with this crowd. You might pepper spray a few who try to attack you to protect your home and family, however, they WILL return in force.

So our consensus is this; IF the police have been neutralized, i.e. funds and depts cut, police being brutalized by the courts where they will not protect everyone> OR there is so much turmoil which prevents the authorities coming to your aid in an untimely time frame....then the rules have changed. Due to the non-police actions then you will have to use force to protect your family and property.

Get prepared for that scenario.

if you have any doubt about what to expect out of the common populace during SHTF times >>> just read about what's happening around the country any given day ....

with the interstate and the obvious movement of malcontents between cities - your remote small town could get invaded by a whole bus of ANTIFA/BLM that was forced off the interstate - same same with "Karens" - and just crooked crooks looking for eazy $$$ ...

nods that has always been a worry out here by the lake city druggies coming out here to party or steal and cause mayhem. Here a few years ago a couple just across the lake from us were murdered one afternoon and very little stolen there was no real reason given on the news. But that got us to set things up to where I will be alerted anyone come on the property. Drive way alarm, trail cams to catch license plates should they come in uninvited etc. And then I also accidently got a pretty bad image going on around in these parts so no one comes around. (I really did not point the gun at the neighbor just kinda waved it as I was yelling about his dog bothering my sheep as it was trying to lamb) Shot at a tree to run a dog or two off and needless to say :shkr: I don't do anything to dispute folks impression either! :rolleyes: LOL

I would expect that if police are defunded to help you as a victim there are no police to help the perpetrators. So who's going arrest you for defending yourself?

I keep a wallboard saw next to my bed as Plan B. I feed Plan A Speer Gold Dot hollow points.

I also carry police-grade pepper spray. Not those crappy little squirt guns they sell at the drugstore. I'm talking Punch II M-3 Law Enforcement Strength, 2 million SHU, cone-shaped spray, 6- to 8-foot range. Shake it often and give it a test toot every once in awhile. Tip: Stand upwind when you do. Don't ask me how I know.

One non-lethal method might be to have a lot of cash on hand and throw that at whoever approaches.
This might be the least expensive method.
Because no matter how dire the situation appears to be to you, no matter what "non lethal" weapon you use, you will be sued besides also likely facing criminal charges. Lawyers are very expensive.

3 gallons of gas these days - and if there's trouble in the cities - the sideroads off the interstates & major roads in that mid-cities "no man lands" will be flooded - refugees fleeing from one city meet their on-coming fellow refugees from other city ....

I have sprayed many people with pepper spray. It is effective most of the time, even if they want to fight they can't see well. Stun guns require contact and to be held in place so most suck. Once you break contact the effects are gone and the fight is on. Knives require skill like most of the fighting arts. A true taser works well but both probes must hit and stick. The non LEO models are made to be dropped and continue to shock the bad guy while you run away.

Every vehicle we have has Bear Spray in the drivers door pocket....because we live in bear, mountain lion, coyote, bobcat & such country. I think it has something like a thirty foot range and I'm sure that if it can stop a bear it will put a hurt on a human. That's backed up with a firearm. What gets used depends on the threat and how serious it is.

However.....once the SHTF, non-lethal force will be off the menu.
