[rec] Fluffy Cake Frosting

<B>Fluff Frosting</B>

1 Cup milk
1/4 Cup flour
1 Teaspoon vanilla
1 Cup sugar
1/2 Cup Butter
1/2 Cup shortening

In small saucepan, combine flour and milk until thick, stir well. Set aside to cool, keep mixture covered.

In bowl beat sugar, butter and shortening with mixer, until fluffy. Add the milk mixture and vanilla. Continue beating until fluffy

Notes to Self:
- EXCELLENT, more than enough for a layer cake
- May use food colouring

Easter Basket cake

Let me know how you like it homestyle.

I used it to make an <B>Easter Basket cake</B> last year. Bake two round cakes; cut out round concave in top layer; frost with fluffy frosting (don't fill the hole on top) as you would a layer cake; mix coconut and green food colouring in bag; sprinkle coloured coconut to resemble grass in the Easter basket; fill hole on top with edible easter candies; use pipe cleaner for handle...

I sent one to work with my husband last year, and he was sent home with flowers for me :D

Simple version as used at the old Hillman's Bakery which was in the Sears store in downtown Chicago circa 1930's

Standard Buttercream Icing

1 part unsalted butter
1 part crisco

blend with mixer till soft.
add 1 tsp. vanilla
start adding powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time.
blending after each addition.

after a few cups of sugar, frosting will begin to stiffen.
add more sugar if piping roses or borders.
keep it thinner for general spreading.
