If there was a show coming on later in the day you would make sure to put blankets over the curtains and figure out the rabbit ears. Oh the good life!

And - turn the knob slow so you don't wreck the contacts.
Or dad would make you pull the knob straight off and shoot the "Tuner-Renu" up in there.

He didn't know that there was a metal "shield" around the actual tuner contacts that would prevent the spray from actually cleaning the mess going in that way...

...But, it was safer for us 12YOs than taking off the back and poking around in the guts with 18KV flyback transformers...

Two channels. Two. Channel 2 and channel 4. Great math lesson 2 + two clicks = channel 4. Channel 4 - two clicks = Channel 2. Just don't "pull" or you could be squashed by the tv console.

Neither here nor there.
Do any of you remember Dad outside turning the antenna pole and one of us inside relaying the okay stop?

Yes, and we moved up in the world when dad got one of those thingies so you didn't have to physically turn the pole yourself, you just moved a dial on the box on top of the tv.

How about the original remote? The actual "clicker" remote. Basically, a box with a trigger that slaps two metal pieces together inside, the sound is picked up by the tuner in the TV and rotated one channel for every click. Now that was living!

Unfortunately, you typically had to get up anyway to adjust the rabbit ears and fine tune the channel with that same knob!

The reason it is called a flyback transformer is, should you discharge it with your body, you will flyback 40-50 feet depending on your weight.
