Raggedyann and I rescued a pup yesterday. He's a 3 YO rott/dobie mix. Goes by the name of BEAR - wouldn't have been my first choice – but it is what it is.

Really sweet dog. His family had to give him up bc they lost their jobs to the COVID and then their house – and had to move to an apartment. This poor guy had to stay in a crate – and it was destroying him. They were smart enough to realize that and gave him up for adoption – but not before he completely wrecked 2 plastic crates, chewed himself up a bit due to the stress of it all, and came down with a rip roaring UTI – probably from being locked in the dang crate for who knows how long at a stretch.

He hit the Jackson Cty animal shelter Friday afternoon (7.24) and we went to meet him the very next day. On Monday (7.27) we brought our female Rottie (BO) to meet him . . . they liked each other right off. following a thorough check up with our vet – including xrays of his belly and blood work - we brought him home Monday afternoon. Got the report on his labs this afternoon and – other than that UTI (he's on Cephalexin for it) he's 110%.

Its taken him about 24 hrs to realize that he's got a forever home now – and that his people aren't going to run off and leave him again. He's very calm, incredibly well mannered and had been well trained – sits, stays, waits, down stays, rolls over, etc. We showed him his "place" and he goes there when you send him (well - MOST of the time – but that's "new" for him). All in all , he's a pretty bright pup. He's jumped up on the bed twice – a HUGE NO – in the Raggedy house hold – but other than that he's been a perfect gentleman.

Today we took BEAR and BO to the PetsFart to get him a decent collar and a name tag with our name and phone # on it. They each got to pick out a new toy and they each carried them to the register.

he reminds me of Moses in a lot of little ways; although he'll NEVER replace Mosie in my heart, he helps to ease that ache we all know so well – the one that dulls a bit from time to time – but is never gone for good.

introducing . . . Mr. H. Bearington Bear - (the "H" is for handsome)

he is just gorgeous! Our oldest dd and sil have a rottie and I admit that up until I was around him I was scared of rotties. Cabo though is a big baby. He lays in my lap if I sit on the floor. When they go off on a trip he comes and stays with me if he can't go. He has the most sensitive stomach ever though so no treats for him.
I keep thinking that in about a year I may want another dog. Reese is getting old and she is the man child's dog 100 %. I still miss my Bandit even though its been over 10 years.

there is NOTHING that ever removes that ache - the best we can do is KNOW that over on that far side bank they remember us too, and that they wait for us there. and one day, when we're called, they'll come running to greet us. for us it may have been years - but for them it will simply be that they looked up - and there we are.

"Cabo though is a big baby"
as they were being "loved to death" by the dogs - we used to tell people that had never met MOSES and BO before to never let them know they were both Rotties. that being said I can also affirm that those dogs were an EXCELLENT judge of people. I used to tell folks who came to the house that they were the way they were because we were there and we were "HAPPY" - but that things could "turn on a dime".

that did - and STILL DOES - work wonders for discouraging "return visitors" to our very rural property. but probably not as much as the sign below does . . . after the signs at the pipe gate its the first one on the 1/4 mile road up to the house

there's an old thread here discussing "dog warning signs" . . . https://www.timebomb2000.com/xf/ind...sign-people-will-believe.524261/#post-6601989

here are our thoughts on things of that nature -

What a handsome guy! You couldn't have made a better choice. Rotts have gotten a bad name but they are so smart, protective and the instincts are unbelievable. I had Rotts for twenty yrs. Never a bad one. Its the people raising them that determines that. When I looked at that picture I had to cry. He looks like my Jonah. And Dresden was the dog of a lifetime. I hope they are waiting, like you said. Thanks for taking him.

He’s gorgeous and looks so happy! Side note: it’s amazing how the Doberman influence slimmed his build!

Bear is built exactly like Moses was - tall and thin but he's a full head taller than Mosie was . . . definitely the Dobie in him. Bear could easily rest his snout ON the kitchen table IF we allowed that [NOT!!!] where Mosie could stretch and SEE things on top of the Table.

I am CERTAIN that are waiting for us . . . if you haven't had the opportunity to skim this thread I can't recommend it highly enough and I'm certain it will help you feel better about it:

we've had Rotts for 30+ years - to be honest -this is the first time we've had a dog that WASN'T a Rott in all that time . . . altho when I met her Raggedyann had a Rottie/Belgian Malinois cross named Teddie - G R E A T pup . . . but she was terrified of electrical storms . . . I saw her try to chew through a door jamb to try and get OUT side once when we were gone and a big storm blew in off the coast.
my nick-name for her was LUNA-TED :prfl:
