A powerful earthquake measuring a magnitude of 6.7 has struck off the Turkish coast, triggering a tsunami in the Mediterranean.

Beachfront hotels full of British holidaymakers were flooded in the coastal city of Marmaris, Turkey, while the effects were also felt on islands such as Crete and Rhodes.

Eyewitnesses posted videos of hospital staff and patients cowering for cover, while tourists were forced to flee their rooms and gather anxiously in the street.

The earthquake caused cracks in one hotel on the party island of Kos, with tourists facing a night sleeping on the beach after they were evacuated from the building.

The tremor struck at 1.31 am local time (10.31pm GMT) approximately 6.4 miles south of Bodrum, Turkey and 10 miles east of Kos, Greece.

Brit tourist John O'Brennan wrote on Twitter: 'Just experienced 30 second earthquake in Rhodes.

'I hope there are no injuries. Building shook furiously. But all OK.'

Tom Riesack added: 'Wow - terrifying to wake up to massively shaking room at 6.7 earthquake on Kos - thank God no one hurt, just shaken.'

The UK Foreign Office released a statement warning about the possibility of aftershocks and calling on Brits to follow the advice of local authorities.
Esengul Civelek, the governor of Mugla, said initial reports showed there were no fatalities, with a small number of people suffering minor injuries.

Mugla Mayor Osman Gurun said power outages affected certain parts of the province and that telephone operators experienced shortages due to overloads.

Bodrum Mayor Mehmet Kocadon said the earthquake had caused minor cracks on some old buildings.

Turkish broadcaster NTV reported that aftershocks were being felt in the region, with a 4.6 magnitude aftershock hitting at 1.52 am (22.52pm GMT).

The European quake agency EMSC said a small tsunami could be caused by the quake, but Turkish broadcasters cited officials saying large waves were more likely.

Others told how sea levels dipped by about a foot before the tsunami struck, followed by mass floods shortly after.

The earthquake, initially reported as a magnitude 6.9, was very shallow, only 6.2 miles below the seabed, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

A magnitude 6.7 quake is considered strong and is capable of causing considerable damage, but today's tsunami would have been dampened by seas.

The area surrounding Turkey is prone to earthquakes because it is located between the Arabian plate and Eurasian plate.

According to Turkey's disaster and emergency management service, an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 occurred and was felt in Mugla and its surrounding areas.

A 6.7 magnitude earthquake in the Mediterranean Sea off the Turkish coast has triggered a mini tsunami. The tremor also affected the Greek island of Kos, where two people were killed and several injured.

The quake struck at an estimated depth of 10km some 12km off the Turkish resort city of Bodrum in Mugla Province, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center reported. It was followed by several less powerful aftershocks.

The tremors caused a tsunami wave, apparently large enough to reach some hotels located on the coastline, as photos shared online indicated.

The Latest: Greek officials say more than 100 hurt in quake

By The Associated Press
KOS, Greece July 20, 2017, 9:52 PM ET

The Latest on an earthquake that struck Turkey's Aegean coast and nearby Greek islands (all times local):

4:40 a.m.

Greek officials say more than 100 people have been injured in a powerful earthquake that shook islands and Turkey's Aegean coast in the middle of the night.

Giorgos Halkidios, a regional government official for the island of Kos, said an older building there collapsed, hurting people underneath it. He said more than 100 were injured.

At least two deaths were reported on Kos, which appeared to be the worst-hit area and was nearest to the epicenter of the quake Greek officials measured at 6.5 magnitude.

The quake about 1:30 a.m. Friday was centered between Bodrum, Turkey, and Kos and was followed by several aftershocks.

4:20 a.m.

Rescuers are checking for trapped people inside houses on the Greek island of Kos after a powerful earthquake struck the area at night.

Authorities have confirmed two deaths and say about 30 people are injured. The epicenter of the 6.7-magnitude quake early Friday morning was between Kos and Bodrum, Turkey.

Kos Mayor Giorgos Kyritsis told local state radio the main town sustained damage but the rest of the island appeared to have no problems. "The buildings affected were mostly old and were built before the earthquake building codes were introduced."

3:40 a.m.

Authorities say two people have been killed and a number have been injured in a powerful earthquake that rattled Greek islands and Turkey's Aegean coast.

Kos Mayor Giorgos Kyritsis told state-run Greek media that buildings on the island sustained structural damage in the quake that struck early Friday morning. He didn't give further details on the deaths and injuries.

The coast guard also announced the island's port was damaged in the quake and that a ferry en route there was not docking.

The fire department separately said three injured people had been rescued from rubble on Kos.

The 6.7-magnitude quake was centered 6 miles (10 kilometers) south of Bodrum, Turkey, and 10 miles (16 kilometers) east-northeast of Kos about 1:30 a.m. Two strong aftershocks followed.

An eclipse has nothing to do with the earth, nor does it have any effect on the earth (Think Shadow)....B]

The biggest quakes in the US on the New Madrid were followed by two solar eclipses. Tecumseh foretold the event. The US will experience another total solar eclipse in 7 years.

"His brother, a religious leader called “The Prophet,” had gained fame when he foretold the total eclipse of the sun on June 16, 1806. (They had learned about it in advance from a team of visiting astronomers.)

During this time, the Governor of Indiana Territory William Henry Harrison--worried about The Prophet’s popularity--had challenged him to produce a miracle. After the day of the “Black Sun” the brothers had no trouble attracting followers. A Black Sun was said to predict a future war. On September 17, 1811 there was another solar eclipse—which, again, was predicted by The Prophet. The brothers’ center of operations was at Prophet’s Town, located near the junction of the Wabash and Tippecanoe Rivers in northern Indiana. Tecumseh was traveling and recruiting warriors among the southeastern tribes, when Governor Harrison attacked Prophet’s Town with over a 1,000 men on November 6, 1811, a pre-emptive strike by the U. S., which marked the beginning of “Tecumseh’s War.” On December 16, when the earthquakes began, Tecumseh was at the Shawnee and Delaware Indian villages near Cape Girardeau, 50 miles north of the epicenter at New Madrid."

Tsunamis are minor events if you're in deep enough water. In fact, depending on the specific tsunami it's possible you'd never even know a tsunami had passed under your boat. It's not until they hit shallow water that they do their thing.

It's just as well that the harbor at Miletus silted up centuries ago. It looks to me like this tsunami could have done some damage to the ruins in the low lying areas in that very historical city.

The Book of Revelations, The Hopi Seventh Prophecy, etc.

The post I requested a link from stated that EQs will occur because of two things: the solar eclipse and something incoming into our solar system. I asked TG, the poster to provide a source for that information. She connected this EQ and others to 'incoming'. I'd like to read what leads her to say this.

You mention two sources but fail to provide a specific Scripture. I have studied Revelation for 40 years and while I do believe that one day "the powers of heaven and earth will be shaken"....there is nothing in an eclipse or in this Turkish EQ to suggest that "This is That". Jesus did foretell that there would be EQs, but told us not to fear for "the end is not yet". It will take more that a 6.7 in Turkey for me to believe the end has come. The Bible foretells a GREAT EQ, so great that volcanos will be triggered and the sun and moon will be darkened. IMO we are in that time frame for this to happen. But this is not that.

So we will see, the possibility is there, not an absolutely not. There's a precedent, and its possible the fault could wake up.

Perhaps a solar eclipse when Our Lord died?

Matthew 27: [50]And Jesus again crying with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

[51] And behold the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top even to the bottom, and the earth quaked, and the rocks were rent."

Luke 23:[45] And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.

Usually these events are followed up by E M P. It says so in some blog I read on the internet so it has to be true.

What's the chance it's just an earthquake? They do occur.

OK gang, yes there are some scientific studies being done to see if there is a connection between an eclipse and a quake (folk traditions all over the world have this) and when you think about the moon pulling on water, well it may pull on land as well.

That said, this quake isn't "under the eclipse" the way the Great Quakes on New Madrid were because the "eclipse quakes" generally occur a few days before, during or after the eclipse.

This might be a "bell ringing" quake (which is still being argued about in geology as to if they exist or not) from the Earth "Ringing like a bell" from the Ring of Fire Quakes but again that's a theory that is still in process.

One thing is for sure it that this did more damage than thought when I went to bed, but less than a large quake in the region can do. Hope there are not anymore...

At least two people have been killed and more than 120 injured on the Greek island of Kos after a strong earthquake hit the region.

The 6.5 magnitude quake struck on Thursday night with an epicentre approximately 6.4 miles (10.3km) south of Bodrum, Turkey, and 10 miles (16.2km) east of Kos.

Two male tourists from Turkey and Sweden died after the walls of a bar in Kos broke apart and crashed down on revellers.

Dozens of aftershocks have been reported, while the quake also caused small tsunamis in Kos and Gumbet, a Turkish coastal town.

In the Turkish resort of Bodrum, around 70 people were taken to hospital, having been injured as they tried to escape the quake.

Giorgos Kyritsis, mayor of Kos, told Greek media: "The buildings affected were mostly old and were built before the earthquake building codes were introduced."

The army has been called on to help emergency services, he added.

Of those injured, two or three are in a serious condition and undergoing surgery, regional officials said.

"You're scared for your life, you don't know what's happening.

"The floor is vibrating like you wouldn't believe."

Lauren Duffy, a 20-year-old student from Merseyside, was evacuated along with her mother and sister from the Atlantis Hotel, which was strewn with shattered glass.

She said: "We were asleep in our hotel room when we were woken by really violent shaking, and we all were screaming and told to evacuate from the hotel."

No solar eclipse. It was Passover and the moon was full. Plus an eclipse only last minutes in any one spot. Darkness came over the land for a full three hours! It was a miraculous event. There were 6 miracles surrounding Christ's death. The darkening of the sun was one of them.

According to David Nahan, "Two-thirds of those earthquakes occurred not only at dawn or at dusk, but also within thirty-six hours of the precise instant of either new or full moon phase." (You can google his name) "1 in 10,000 (.000093), ending more credence to what seems a possible speculation for such an implausible historical record: gravitational tidal triggering. He went on in his book showing a table of earthquakes, along with the mathematics. Remember he said two thirds.....not all earthquakes, before you jump all over me....

Aegean earthquake: Two aftershocks spark panic on Greek island of Kos after two killed and 500 injured
breaking.jpg

The Independent Online
breaking.jpg

Two strong aftershocks have struck the Greek island of Kos within minutes of each other, sending startled residents and tourists scurrying away from homes and restaurants.

A 4.4 magnitude tremor struck Saturday night at 8.09pm local time (6.09pm BST), followed by a 4.6 magnitude shock 16 minutes later, according to the Athens Geodynamics Institute.

The first one was closest to the island, 13 miles to the northeast at a depth of 6 miles.

Worried residents and tourists gathered in the middle of the town's main square, as far away as possible from buildings.

The tremors are among the strongest aftershocks since an earthquake that killed two men on Kos and injured nearly 500 other people across the Aegean Sea region in the early hours of Friday morning.

Hundreds of residents and tourists spent Friday night sleeping outdoors on the island, too afraid to return to their homes or hotels after the quake.

Many camped out in parks or olive groves, or slept in their cars or on beaches and even sunbeds.

During the day in Kos, churches, an old mosque, the port's 14th-century castle and other old buildings that suffered in the quake were being checked by archaeologists and experts from Greece's Culture Ministry.

The U.S. Geological Survey measured the quake Friday at magnitude 6.7, with Greek and Turkish estimates a fraction lower. Two men, a Turk and a Swede, were killed when a wall collapsed into a popular bar in the Old Town of Kos.

The most seriously injured in Greece were airlifted to hospitals on the mainland and the southern island of Crete, and at least two were still in critical condition Saturday.

An eclipse has nothing to do with the earth, nor does it have any effect on the earth (Think Shadow)....as for something "entering" our solar system....too tin foil for me and my astronomer friends.

An eclipse (solar or lunar) is the perfect alignment of the sun, moon and earth (or sun, earth and moon). This alignment occurs in less perfect form every two weeks on the new and full moons. This produces what are called spring tides which are higher and lower than normal. The periods between those phases are characterized by neap tides that are neither as high or low as average.

The earth itself is subject to tides but being solid, at least way more solid than water, moves much less than the tides of the oceans. Known as crustal tides, they are little noticed unless they trigger earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. Vertical movement can be as much as 384.83 mm.

From Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_tide

Effects[edit]

Further information: Tidal triggering of earthquakes

Volcanologists use the regular, predictable Earth tide movements to calibrate and test sensitive volcano deformation monitoring instruments. The tides may also trigger volcanic events. [5] [6] Seismologists have determined that microseismic events are correlated to tidal variations in Central Asia (north of the Himalayas).[citation needed] The semidiurnal amplitude of terrestrial tides can reach about 55 cm at the equator which is important in GPS, VLBI, and SLR measurements.[7][8] Also to make precise astronomical angular measurements requires knowledge of the Earth's rate of rotation (length of day, precession, and nutation), which is influenced by earth tides (so-called pole tide). Terrestrial tides also need to be taken in account in the case of some particle physics experiments. [9] For instance, at the CERN or SLAC, the very large particle accelerators were designed while taking terrestrial tides into account for proper operation. Among the effects that need to be taken into account are circumference deformation for circular accelerators and particle beam energy. [10] [11]

The moon does exert a gravitational pull on the earth and sometimes refered to as gravitational tidal wave
