This conference will add some fuel to the politics in Iowa. Our governor is doing her best to avoid shutting down more businesses, but she's being called upon to order a two-week shelter in place, at least for the hardest hit areas. It'll be interesting to see how long she holds out.

Has anything been said that would be considered an “important announcement” ?

Does the president warning of a bad two or three weeks to come do it for you?

I missed the first couple of minutes (kids lol). He said that the next couple of weeks will be tough on people?

Maybe I missed, but one question I've wanted someone to ask Birx and Fauci is: Come April 30th and we're no longer in the "30 days to slow the spread", what keeps the curve from going back up? Maybe one of the geniuses here know?
Got me concerned too. First we started out with "15 Days to Slow the Spread." Okay, fine. Now here we are at the end of 15, and oh, whoops! Here's "30 Days to Slow the Spread."

What's to stop anyone from busting out "90 Days to Slow the Spread" at the end of THIS 30? Or maybe just "You're Not Allowed To Leave Your House Ever Again, Pleb".

No vote, no accountability, nothing. Just "We say so, you don't go."

We have a lot of history that says "emergency powers" are a bad thing, and suddenly, here are governments grabbing them up like jacks at a little girl's birthday party.

Trump has done more good for this country than anyone, but I've heard enough toe-curlers about "emergency powers" to be concerned.

They just finished the press conference. President Trump answered every single question thrown at him. They went way past scheduled time to end, but he made himself and his team completely accessible to the press wolves.
If the media reports honestly (good luck on that) a lot of questions on peoples' minds got answered.

Seems to me as a polite way to say he is finding out who is allowed in his foxhole.
Ain't is female. She calls herself the bitchy granny on occasion.
What was getting my goat was I was suddenly realizing I couldn't tell the sheep from the wolves, even here.
When it was mostly the Democrats, and their desire to undermine anything the commander was trying to do, foment mutiny, question his decisions, undermine his judgement, support anything he opposed and oppose anything he advised, recommended or solicited from the American people in the way of cooperation JUST LIKE ANY ENEMY OF AMERICA AND TRUMP WOULD DO.

They are doing that because they are trying to find and slash what they hope is Trump's figurative achilles tendon in order to pull a coup on this nation and take over the reins of power.
I RECOGNIZED them as the DOMESTIC ENEMIES of this free nation that they posed.

But then RIGHT HERE I began to see the disrepect, the same snarky, challenging, appeals to "constitutional rights" "gotcha questions, the "I'm not going to cooperate" attitude that "he cant tell me what to do" and "He can't make me wear a mask etc" (even under the Declared, worst state of emergency this nation has ever faced) for the sole purpose of stripping him of his tools, his power and authority to try to save this nation from a looming, potentially horrific dance with death.

I started realizing maybe we had some moles, some wolves in Trump hats dividing our loyalty, undermining our trust, cooperation with, and support for out "Wartime Commander" I had to say something. I saw too many even here, drawing a bead on our leader.

Hindsight is 20/20. And Trump (with all his bravado) is easy to critique.

And being front line - including the "off the cuff" responses to questions - leaves a lot of room for questioning.

I often do a "look away" (equivalent of a human head slap) on some of Trump's responses.

But he has the reins.

Is it just me or is the press starting to be less obnoxious? See; I have a theory; that people will do to you what you allow them to do. He keeps putting his foot down and calling them out and reminding CNN that their ratings and viewership are tanking. I think they are staring to act like adults! However, I wasn't able to watch every single minute, so I may have missed something. Opinions?

He has said a couple different days in response to press questions that he had downplayed it at the start because he didn't want to panic people. Isn't this just what we have been speculating here? And he certainly has gone way out of his way to be accessible, and to make his experts accessible too.

I think you called it exactly right with tonight's press conference. Press conferences can sometimes "flow" like your'e in a horse and buggy with a lot of stops to make. Rough, jerky ride. Some press conferences "flow" smoothly like a car on the interstate.
Tonight's conference was a car on the interstate. He had a LOT of bad news to deliver, and he did it well. His support had the conference down flawlessly. The press responded to that well; they would have looked like small children whining if they asked their usual bevy of gotcha! questions.
The Trump press conference grew up tonight, so to speak. The reporters have been given the info they wanted, without cajoling or irritating. President Trump has always acted like the adult in the room; the press may have realized, finally, that if they act like adults too they get good stories. Now that's tonight's conference; we'll see what happens tomorrow.

Meh. Constitutional rights will always rate higher than feelz. YMMV. The difference comes when people think their constitutional rights overshadow the constitutional rights of others. One person's rights end when the rights of another start. And everyone's rights end when the government thinks they can take residence up their butts.

I may not agree with what someone says but I'll lay down my life in defense of their freedom to have that say.

I believe it is predicated on the number of people left to infect. If Population is 100,000,, 15,000 died, 40,000 hospitalized and recovered, 30,000 resolved at home, with or without symptoms, only 5,000 left to infect.
That is reflected in the number of new cases showing up for treatment getting smaller every day. Testing gives a rough insight into the number still left to infect. I don't know if they have a test using antibodies level or count or if it is presence of live virus.

You know, the one thing that I'm very glad they brought up was about the tests. I looked at fezzik and said, "I feel bad for those 2 drs. I feel bad for Trump, of course as well. But how u believably frustrating to gave worked so hard to get made and approved these tests. They knew they needed not only way more tests, but much faster and more accurate and easier. They put in that hard work and make them available, and then they find out that so many if them are just sitting at hospitals not bring used!". He just shook his head.

So it sounds like (from the presser) that they actually DO have the tests at the hospitals. Well, some hospitals, not all...not most, but they are out there, but they are not being used.

I could see both of them throw up their hands and say "what did we even do that for?!"

Hopefully, the states and the hospitals and clinics in those states get a move on and get them distributed. And distributed out to more than just a couple if the bigger hospitals in the states. There are lots if people outside of the bug cities that need them too

Actually, one of the reporters asked the question right at the end, one of the last two or three questions. And if I heard Fauci correctly, his answer boiled down to: we hope that doesn’t happen.

Looks like when he realized the seriousness of the situation he acted boldly and long before other leaders did. "What if" Americans had known what Obama's 'hope and change' really meant.? "What if" Adam had defended Eve from Satan's temptation instead 'hearkening' to her words instead of God's? "What ifs" could be written into eternity.

I wouldn’t doubt liberal governors fudging numbers to keep this going on.

I Wonder if there is any followup on that story a little while ago that some people had entered bunkers in, was it Cheyenne Mountain?
Has anyone heard anything?

What some of us might be watching now that the S IS ABOUT TO HTF, is that someone, some VIP's that you WILL NOT SEE. Those (probably older, or with underlying health problems, IMPORTANT, AT RISK NOTABLES, holding a ticket to that party will probably be entering Quarantine about now,h to make sure they don't bring it in. Or they might have entered last week for a 3 week precautionary quarantine. I seriously doubt that either Trump or Penc,e will go in, if they have the authority and power to decline doing so. (Unless they have an inside line on the first vaccine. which they will have no choice but to submit to, failing a new vaccine, I am sure they will be getting antibody shots regularly.

You have to recognize what (more like WHO) is missing, someone made OBVIOUS by their absence from their normal public presence. Lets see if we can spot at least ONE person most likely sitting in a Federal Bunker until this germ burns through the population.

If you want a real nightmare scenario-think if Hillary or Osama were president, trying to handle this situation. I honestly think if they were in power; we would all pray!!! for only 100k to 200k dead. Neither one of them could manage their way out of a wet paper bag.

They would never let that crisis go to waste to solidify absolute power for themselves.

Reporters hung up on the estimate of 100,000 to 200,000 deaths in USA from this pestilence with full mitigation (quarantines and businesses shut downs).

... 80,000 Americans died of flu and its complications 2016-2017 flu season
… 100,000 Americans died of flu or complications 1967-68 season
… 116,000 Americans died of flu or complications 1957-58 season
… 675,000 Americans dies of the 1918-19 Spanish Flu - the disease's highest know death toll

And before some of you flame me, I know this isn't the Flu ok, just using these as a reference base to put CONVID-19 estimated deaths into perspective.
Each of those "seasons" was 6-7 months. We are looking at that death toll in the next 2-3 weeks. AS A BEST CASE.

I went to a training session many years ago. Medication was to be distributed at places like McDonald’s drive thru. Walmart etc etc. I think if the med combo being discussed is found to work. It will be a mass distribution effort.

We practiced that mass distro method in MRC. At the time the meds were to be handled through drive up AND door to door delivery, AND mailed using county tax records addresses as well.

The chart estimates they showed today is actually March through July (5 months), not the 2-3 weeks as you state. They estimate it will peak in 3-4 weeks and continue down from there though July. The 100K-200K is total deaths over that time period not in the next two weeks.

It is all based on modeled data. The original estimates were 2 million and as the disease progresses in real time, the models were updated to reflect what had really happened. Going forward the 100-200K could prove to be high, low or on target.

We'll only find out just how bad it really is when it runs it course.

Not arguing it isn't bad, just used the flu deaths to put this thing in context to other pan-epidemics that have sweep through in the last 100 years in the states.

We'll never know the real number of deaths to this in China and Iran, but dollars to donuts China's figures are understated by a factor of 3 to 5. With them opening their wet markets (and their bio-weapons' labs still chugging along) who knows if this is just the start of even worse ones to come.

"Don't test, don't tell" still seems to be the CDC strategy in the ZUSA.

Thing is, those flu numbers came out of unmitigated years. We didn't have the whole country locked in their houses when those numbers were generated.

They're talking 100K - 200K WITH mitigation, and 1 million to 2 million without. It's not right to compare the deaths in an unmitigated flu season to those in a heavily mitigated Covid pandemic.
Plus the short time frame as Chuck mentions.
