Life is better in flip flops
His demeanor seems very, very sober. Different than I've seen him before. Even though he believes "we will win," he sounds at least tired, but actually a bit defeated and depressed. He saw the hospital near Elmhurst (I think that's what he said) and he seems almost overwhelmed by what he saw. But trying to maintain a positive attitude.
I agree. Somber. Like he's speaking at a funeral.

To sum it up so far, if we continue (and do even better) with the social distancing and measures we are doing, we can keep what's happening in New York City from happening in most other states. Still, 100,000 deaths possible in that scenario. But if we do even better, the number could go much lower. If we don't keep these measures, it could get much worse.

Dial back your hyperbole meters here; a month ago, we had a functioning economy. Businesses were open, people were working. NOW what do we have?
For the 20 yrs I have been on this forum, I have been told that our economy was a mirage. And I would look out my window, see new cars driving up and down the street and pretty girls walking on sidewalks newly built in front of new apartment buildings. Some mirage.

Reporters hung up on the estimate of 100,000 to 200,000 deaths in USA from this pestilence with full mitigation (quarantines and businesses shut downs).

... 80,000 Americans died of flu and its complications 2016-2017 flu season
… 100,000 Americans died of flu or complications 1967-68 season
… 116,000 Americans died of flu or complications 1957-58 season
… 675,000 Americans dies of the 1918-19 Spanish Flu - the disease's highest know death toll

And before some of you flame me, I know this isn't the Flu ok, just using these as a reference base to put CONVID-19 estimated deaths into perspective.

Maybe I missed, but one question I've wanted someone to ask Birx and Fauci is: Come April 30th and we're no longer in the "30 days to slow the spread", what keeps the curve from going back up? Maybe one of the geniuses here know?

Reporter query on "hold back" of 10K respirators.

Trump reply of "surge coverage."

Um. Isn't this is what you call "Logistics?" Looking ahead and "lean & agile?"

I watched it for a while until I couldn't stand the bs and drivel. For whatever reason Tump continues to act like Junior Emperor Xi the Merciless is our buddy, and "I called him and we had a great talk yadda yadda yada." Then he defers to VP Pence and they talk about Florida's De Santis and how great he is and doing a great job despite letting hordes of students party on the beaches etc. I just had to stop watching Trump at that point. He did show some emotion about sick people and he is dealing with a feral pack of dogs known as the dc press corpse.:D

I got a survey from in the mail yesterday from Trump I filled out, even wrote a $25 check. Likely all 12 Trump supporters in Portland got one. :eleph:

I think what is happening in NY is hitting Trump personally, in the feelz .

As a native New Yorker, I know what that feels like. 9/11 wasn't just a national crisis, it was personal for me, far more than the Pentagon was.

Same with this thing. I was born in Manhattan, at Mt Sinai, which now has patient pods in their lobby and refrigerated morgue trucks in front of it.

My dad and my sister were born in South Nassau Hospital, now owned by Mt Sinai and very near where my mother still lives. My dad was treated for pancreatic cancer there and I spent 5 months there on and off with him.
I was there when I broke my leg at age 13, for a week.
That hospital was all over Fox News today because of the tents out front and the patient load inside.

Today was a very hard day for me. I don't live there anymore but I am still a New Yorker and always will be. We're not all assholes either. heh.

I think Trump is getting hit like I am. His childhood hospital, Elmhurst, is a war zone. A friend of his is in a coma from this , it sounds like.

Yes, he is the leader of the free world, and this national emergency is his to manage. But I also think that sometime in the last few days it became very very personal for him.

I haven’t been able to watch. Has anything been said that would be considered an “important announcement” ?

Reporter query "what if social distancing had been mandated earlier - would it have saved lives?"

Even this horse knows earlier is better - this a question calculated to put pressure on Trump.

Dr. Birx up now - explaining "confidence interval" which is the downside of starting too early. (what if you social distance too early - and potentially without reason?)

What the reporters are really hung up on is finding the "Gotcha!" that they can attack the administration with.

I wish he had taken it 'personal' at least a couple weeks earlier, but otherwise I think they're trying hard to thread the needle...

Does the president warning of a bad two or three weeks to come do it for you?

Of course. But it sounded like there would be important new guidelines presented today. I haven’t seen anyone mention that.

If true why does China still exist as a nation?
The world should have amassed on their border and taken the country over.
The media has been their shills forever. This charade needs to end and the media laid bare for what they are. Traitors to this country and the free world

You answered your own question. The media has been their shills. The media will remain their shills. The media, just like the NBA, kiss China's butt for economic reasons.

I love my president and love the job he's doing with this press conference. He is genuinely trying to do the best he can; he's got good folks working with him. And he's facing 100k to 200k deaths projected. So yeah I can understand his somber tone. He's doing the best he can. We're all in this fight together is the message he's promoting, he's handling this very well.
But I'd SURE rather see him cutting loose at a Trump rally.
If you want a real nightmare scenario-think if Hillary or Osama were president, trying to handle this situation. I honestly think if they were in power; we would all pray!!! for only 100k to 200k dead. Neither one of them could manage their way out of a wet paper bag.
