I have been trying to find a really' light' waterproof, poncho for a short woman - any thoughts.?After watching "Krakatua' I think having one for volcanic ash (yellowstone) would be a good idea

Rite Aide. In their Camping department. You can get yellow or blue.

(Yes, next to their display of condoms and K Y jelly, Rite Aide sells ponchos. Go figure.)

I have to ask, though, why 'light'? Why not get a poncho that is heavy duty? Get one that is stout enough to use as a tent, as well as rain gear. Dual-purpose, ya know.

Or were you meaning 'light' as in color?

I have some camo GI ponchos. And I was tickled pink to find that Wiggy's was selling Lamilite poncho liners (superior to the $60 Thinsulate liners at BQ, and FAR superior to the standard GI liner) on closeout sale for 17 dollars!

A poncho is one of the most versatile pieces of gear you can own. It has a myriad of uses, limited only by your imagination.

With one I've made a raft, a shelter, a hammock, a litter, etc.

Get a few because you tend to go through them when you use them alot.

Some people (myself, for one) just don't anticipate ever needing a poncho for anything but a portable outhouse.

Ya know....I had to sit and think about that for about a minute.... and then I finially "got" it!

But then, I'm the one that told my 30 something marrieds that I wanted some new shoes, and I thought a pair of "wedgies" would do.

after they finished rotfltao's.. they told me what I had said...in today's language!

Hannah, in today's language, 'light' usually means 'flimsy'/shoddy; so my advice still stands. ;)

I've found them up in the camping section at Walmart. The are only a few bucks, and come in a small package in several colors...green, blue, and blaze orange! I scored a bunch of blaze orange ones a couple years ago, and my family has not stopped thanking me on those rainy/sleety November days during deer season. I always keep a couple in the truck, and they are very handy when camping or doing quick fixes around the farm in the rain.
