ECON Pole Shed Kit Cost, Then and Now

I know there's other wood cost threads, but this one's pretty specific.

Back in the Spring of 2019 I ordered my pole shed kit from Menards and at that time, the cost was $9,525. Out of curiosity I logged back in to their web site and recalled the same kit plan and now its $16,037. I know wood prices have been going up, but  Sure glad I did it when I did.

No kidding. And when you consider the price increase probably isn't evenly distributed across the different materials ( i.e. the doors, steel siding, etc probably haven't gone up as much as the wood ... but I'm not sure), it means the wood price increase is more than 60% in two years.

Had a 40X40 barn built in 2019. Nothing special, open floor, no stalls, roll up doors big enough to drive our tractor in (12'), sheet metal siding. Ran into our builder a few weeks ago, he said that if we built it now, it would be double, or more, the price.

Glad we did it when we did!

DH works for Home D and his boss said building supply’s of all kindcexpected to go up 5x....suggested we wait for our pole barn till prices drop. I told DH I believe it will go up and drop but will never drop to today’s price again unless we go full blown Great Depression

5x. That's scary, but if it takes a Great Depression, the democrats can certainly help out there.

I purchased my pole barn kit in 2014. 60x40 Wood posts with metal siding and roof with 12' walls. $15,000. 2 windows and roll up door included.
I wouldn't doubt for a minute that the same kit at today's prices would be double.

Last shed I built was two years ago this August.

34x50 open front machine shed.

Cost me the price of three 50# boxes of nails; 6” barn spikes, 5” barn spikes and 2-1/4” ring shank roofing nails.

I highly recommend getting into building salvage. It has its advantages.

We had been looking at land for 2 families to build a custom home for our needs (senior care), but were advised by a couple of builders not to even contemplate building for a couple of years - this was back in January this year. The subdivision in town has come to a screeching halt for new builds, but they are finishing the little commercial mall as it was too close to halfway not to complete.

This won't change for a while, unless there is a complete collapse and the prime cause is the great amount of lumber heading south the USA, and employees being grounded by Covid.
