Thought you all might get a kick out of my newest prep item. 1,000 oyster spat we got yesterday. I’m excited!
Can’t wait for them to grow up!

I spent a little time reading up on oysters/spats - interesting. It'd be neat to see pics as they get bigger. Thanks for posting about this... learned something new! :)

You’re welcome! It’s been fun to learn myself. We got 500 diploids (same as “wild” oysters) and 500 triploids (most commercial oysters in the market). Triploids are sterile so grow faster. Diploids help the bay more as they can spawn more oysters.

The house we bought already had nine oyster floats. I can’t wait to “watch” them grow.

Where abouts do you live? They are big business around here in New England. Several of my college classmates have started farms. My fathers friend has a couple acres of them. He tried to get Dad into the business but at 70 my mother said no. He does raise mussels on ropes off his dock. A fascinating and delicious project.
