The Pentagon has authorized hundreds of active-duty troops to support enhanced security measures related to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, as local law enforcement continues to track threats of violence in the nation’s capital in the days leading up to the ceremony, according to two defense officials.
The 750 active-duty personnel deployed this week include service members with expertise in handling chemical, biological, nuclear, radiological and explosive weapons, as well as explosive ordnance disposal and medical teams skilled in trauma response, said one defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive operations.

The Department of Defense has also authorized active-duty personnel to coordinate with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, medical personnel to conduct Covid-19 testing in support of the attending physician of Congress, and additional management and support personnel, the official said.

The news comes as authorities are in a heightened state of alert, scrambling on Monday morning to respond to a fire in the general area of the U.S. Capitol. While the Capitol was briefly placed on lockdown, upending a rehearsal for Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday, the source of the fire turned out to be a propane tank that had exploded at a homeless camp nearby.

Altogether, the Pentagon has authorized roughly 2,750 active-duty personnel to support the inauguration, but the bulk of those — about 2,000 — are for “ceremonial support,” such as the band, the official said.

National security leaders across the country ordered an unprecedented show of force this week ahead of inauguration. The active-duty teams will join the roughly 21,500 National Guardsmen currently deployed to the National Capital Region helping civilian authorities respond to the threat of potential violence in the days leading up to the inauguration. That number could swell to 25,000 Guardsmen, many of whom are protecting the Capitol, armed with lethal weapons and riot gear.

The FBI said Thursday that it had already made more than 100 arrests in connection to the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol and that law enforcement was monitoring “an extensive amount of concerning online chatter” ahead of the inauguration.

While the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, is responsible for enforcing flight restrictions over the nation’s capital on Inauguration Day, as on any other day, no NORAD forces have been specifically dedicated to support the inauguration, the defense official said.

“Multiple resources, including rotary wing and fighter aircraft, are always poised to intercept any aircraft that may pose a security issue in the area,” the official said.

It fits all the definitions of a coup d'etat so I think that is what it is.

I also thought it was illegal to use military troops as opposed to NG within the country. Guess that would be another proof of a coup.

This 750 troopies deployment is fairly clearly a Civil Support unit.

They are designed to come help sniff for WMDs and to assist in treating the same, so they would be well-chosen for OVID testing and vaxing or treating.

There are at LEAST one CSTeam in each state.

Look at the frellin skills being added before you squawk coup d'etat.

I'll grant you that the 25000 is a nice coup set up but the CST isn't part of that.

Though things are getting more and more interesting.

“The National Guard has a long history of helping to secure U.S. presidential inaugurations, but, by contrast, only about 8,000 National Guard members were present during President Donald Trump’s inauguration in 2016.“

That is well understood, however if Biden is the projected Pres. why would America's enemies attack? I don't think they would, unless somebody here has a brilliant imagination... Would love to hear it. Without saying, Conservatives are NOT going to cause that mayhem.

If anything, my imagination tells me the worst.
