Wait for him to get sued because he baited the boxes with a "bio hazard".

Send out some Elmo.

They need some sort of glue that you can't see but once you touch the package it's like INSTANT SUPER GLUE and the package is seriously anchored down so that the thief can't get away and is caught in the act.

Then you can take your time calling the police cause they aren't going anywhere....or better yet beating the holy snot out of the THIEF as a life lesson. We need to go back to PAIN as punishment for crimes. You know....a good (sorry Dobbin) old fashion HORSE WHIPPING!! PAIN is natures way of educating critters NOT TO DO THAT!!

(Or cutting off the offending hand, yes harsh but I'd bet the amount of thievery would significantly drop almost instantly.)

Fortunately, my AO doesn't have porch pirate problems - so far. In fact, some of my delivery drivers hide the package behind the HVAC unit. Sometimes, *I* can't even find them! Once, a pkg was mis-delivered to a neighbor, who promptly brought it to me. Just pure luck so far, I guess.

We've never had a package stolen, and we are constantly getting boxes here.

MAIL, on the other hand... We didn't even know that we had mail stolen out of our box (which is on the street) until we were contacted by the police department, who found our mail in the perp's home. It seems that the perp would follow the mail truck at a discreet distance, then raid the mailboxes in its wake.

Once we knew that our mail was subject to theft, we bought a locking mailbox, and that problem was solved. Other people in the general neighborhood continued to experience mail thefts, and some of them eventually came to us to ask where we got our box. (A simple internet search would have answered their questions.)
