Herbal Oxymels and Shrub drinks

Fairwillows

Where I am supposed to be.
I've been researching information on Oxymels and Shrub drinks. I did a search on tb2k, nothing came up. Can anyone supply me some first hand information about these beneficial liquids? shelf life? storage? Links? I love vinegar and honey which is what oxymels are made from. Shrubs, I'm still researching.

There are some that you can "can" as a way to preserve them. I'll try and post some. Shoulder is somewhat sore today so any bloopers, just note and I'll try and correct.

Blackberry Shrub

Gather the blackberries, wash and select so that there will be not sour or imperfect ones. Cover with cider vinegar (2 years old) and cook until soft. Strain, and sweeten the juice to taste; boil down until it is about the consistency of thick syrup. Bottle and put in a cool, dark place. When serving, use 3 or 4 tablespoons to a glass of cold water.

Shrubs will sometimes have alternative health benefits. Growing up I was sick ... a lot. My great grandmother taught my mother how to make blackberry shrub for fevers. I've always been partial to blackberries as a result. It was a way for them to get enough fluid in me and also a good bit of Vit C. They also kept my vomiting down. There are people on TB2K with actual herbal training that can give you the full range of the benefits of blackberries.
