With a heavy coat hanger and a piece of flannel or other material, you can stitch up a drip coffeemaker in about 15-20 minutes: This below is a photo of one that is being sold. But if you cannot figure out how to make it yourself you are neither a prepper nor a survivalist and don't have much chance to overcome difficult problems if you cant manage such easy ones.

I grab a mug, put in a few teaspoons of instant coffee (I use Cafe Bustelo), fill the mug from the instant hot water faucet, and I'm good to go. I guess my coffee taste buds are different. I have a cup of DH's perfectly brewed perfectly chosen, fresh ground coffee and think...really all that trouble for this?
This^^^ Cafe Bustelo instant coffee does not have the "instant" taste! I've tried most of the instants on thru hikes and Cafe B is the standard, better than star bucks, folgers, etc.

I'm open to suggestions if someone has tried it and liked some other brand.

Second largest thread ....... making coffee. I guess we are all of the same mold in this daily grind. I like it anyway I can get it, variety being the spice of life.

I got hooked on Bustelo in Miami.

Made the Cuban way, a coffee cup full of milk tablespoon of sugar steamed and the espresso thing packed full of Bustelo with a healthy scoop of sugar on top of the grounds.

Pretty much a half pot of coffee crammed in a cup.

It'll get you jacked-up and ready to whip the world.

It really is better in Miami tho. Seems like every block in Little Havana has at least one coffee kiosk.

Having "camped" in a 27ton steel box for a month at a stretch, in fabulous locations like Death Valley in the summer and Germany during a record cold winter.

My threshold for roughing it includes hot n cold running water. I have the basic gear for caveman ops, but no desire to use it.

If sunrise isn't actually a mushroom cloud, I'll have coffee. Not instant, I want real coffee.

I have a long trip that will probably involve an overnight at some remote location and loaded said gear....or what I thought would be needed. Cot, fart sack, little multifuel stove, dog food, etc.

A few weeks ago I saw a camping, French press. Didn't give it much thought.

This morning it hit me, no easy way to make coffee.

I reckon there is something to be said for running your gear.

Ah, yes, French Press...stainless steel, got 3, count them, three...one for reg coffee, one for decaf and one for tea and everybody's happy first thing in the morning and that is SOOOO important...lol. My back up for some thing have back-ups! ( I had 5 but gave the 2 glass ones to a friend but will not part with the stainless steel)

Most truck stops nationally aren’t allowing people inside these days.
That must depend on the state (or the state of affairs, but I digress). I've only been to 4 this past year (Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas) and haven't seen any over-the-top craziness in any of them. The closer to a city one is, the more masks one sees inside, but that's about all I've noticed.

I'm usually in a hurry to hit the head, though, and get back on the road, so don't usually pay that much attention. And the truck stops like Flying J, Pilot, Love's, SAPP Bros etc. have jacked up their retail diesel prices so high that I don't ever buy fuel at any of those places anymore.

For instant coffee, I'd recommend trying the Nescafe Clasico (the one with the red cup of coffee on the label). Real tasty for instant coffee. I've got some cold brew Ethiopian (my favorite overall origin) but I've never much liked the flavor of cold brew. This seems odd to me because I'll drink yesterday's cold brewed coffee if I need a quick few sips before warming it up and it's always fine.

I don't drink coffee. Neither does hubby. But our daughters acquired the habit in college. (Gah! Good thing they now pay their own dental.)

Anyway … cold brew. You have to wait a day for your cuppa but I understand some people greatly prefer it over the perked version.
Yes ! Much better. Make it the night before.

I was just looking at the prices of Cafe Bustelo instant coffee and it is very expensive. A while back I bought some of the individual packets and vacuum sealed them.

I discovered an instant coffee at walmart last year, Medaglia D'oro. It came in 2 oz jars and was somewhat a reasonable price and then they stopped carrying it. It was two or three times the price of walmart at amazon. I did manage to get quite of few jars before walmart stopped carrying it. Its a nice bold cup of coffee.

God is good all the time,

only thing I'm seeing at the local truckstops are related to the national chain fast food restaurants attached to the truckstops >> they are following the local Virus mandates like all the other chain restaurants - no sitting inside

First world problem.

Just boil up some water one of nine different ways and have tea.

Or put some coffee in a really good thermos the day before.

Or steel yourself and have instant. I make a 1/2 Swiss Miss pack to instant coffee when I do that.
That sounds really good. I always like my chocolate with a swig of good coffee.
