The “smell” in my nose of smoke/cigar was just terrible.

Assuming he was telling the truth . . .

- Are there teenagers or others smoking "upwind" so that the smoke is being pulled into your house?
- Are you downwind of farmers? Some of the chemicals they put on in the fall smell like burnt paper to me.
- Did your husband perhaps have a guest who smoked?
- Have you checked your attic and electrical system? (nothing smouldering?)
- Lastly, try changing your furnace filter.

Again, I steam with Vicks or salt water twice a day during hay fever season. Steaming helps take away any bad smells for awhile. We were getting an ashy smell from the forest fires out West. I changed my furnace filters twice (I use the really cheap ones).

No. To all ideas.
Just asked him again and he said emphatically No.
He put a new filter on two weeks ago.

This post!!!

Ok, this is hard to explain, but here goes.... I was exposed to Covid several times and always in intimate work setting. Up close, daily exposure, from four separate co workers, one who became very ill.
I’ve tested negative. The second test I was just SURE mine would be positive because that week I felt really bad but never had fever...
On and off ever since then, I’ve felt sickly a few times.

Then, this past week or two, have felt on the verge of, or having in progress and cold bug...in fact, it got really bad on Thursday, Friday I left work early. I took a home test this time, on Friday night which again, was negative.
The “smell” in my nose of smoke/cigar was just terrible.

several weeks I’ve been getting angry at hub, asking that he please stop smoking a cigar in the house after I go to bed,

The burning smokesmell was waking me up and I can still smell it in the house.

A constant “aura” of lingering smoke odor was to the point of making me nauseous.

He swears he hasn’t been doing that! I don’t believe he’s telling me a fib.
He has in the past, sat on the back porch smoking one and said he’s cracked the screen door to listen to talk radio so the smoke got drawn in but has not done that in quite awhile...
I’ve been in bed basically since Friday not feeling well with a cold, and a pounding headache.

I’m beginning to really wonder now after reading your post. But how could I have tested negative theee separate times??
There ARE other viruses! I would definitely take ivermectin... maybe daily for 3 days, then 2x weekly for a couple weeks?

When I tested positive, it was unmistakable. The line came in dark and thick. A few days later, it was gone when I retook. (Those tests are annoyingly expensive). I'd wager that you did actually have it, but your body took care of it and you only get negative results now. (I'm O+, so I think that helped). And yes, there was a day last week where I thought there was dust burning in our AC vents because of the smell (it's funny how we'll rationalize that situation over a disease screwing up how the receptors in our nose communicate with our brain).

The test I took Friday , two days ago was a home test. It was negative. It was the Binaxnow test made by Abbot, 25$ at CVS.

Last winter the negative results I got were from actual pcr tests at minute clinic.

(Last Monday I vomited, out of the blue, too, super weird for me to get that nauseated out of the blue so , who knows)

Um . . . don't be offended! I don't know you that well, but maybe a pregnancy test is in order?
Um, no, that’s not it!
And I’m not offended that you asked.
I was thrown into early menopause years ago.
Long story, I’ve already detailed the thread enough.

I’m just trying to put the pieces together about whether or not I have, or have HAD, the Covid.

My understanding is that they can test if you have had it, but it's expensive and probably not worth the time and effort. Play the "pessimoptimist" on this and be happy that if you DID have it, it was essentially painless and you might have natural immunity, but stay with the assumption that you have never had it and go about your day that way - better safe than sorry.

You can get the d-dimer test. Helen had details about it on that long Q thread. I think Walmart is on of the outlets. You go to their pharmacy for the blood draw. It's something like $60.

I had the details written out, but for now, both of my jobs have dropped the idea of mandatory vaccine mandates. They want to keep all their workers with a minimum of drama. (I was going to show that I still have immunity and at one time, they weren't infecting those who'd had Covid within the last six months).

That could change at the drop of a hat, so I'm not getting too comfortable.

DEEP DIVE: Does Covid Cause Significant Brain Harm?

"Covid and brain tissue loss confirmed,” I read on the excellent blog Marginal Revolution.

The link goes to this fascinating UK study, which scanned tens of thousands of brains before Covid, and then scanned many of the same ones again, after Covid hit.

Here’s what I learned from digging into that study and others:
— Brain scans reveal effects on the brain that are relatively minor compared to typical non-Covid-related changes in brains over a 3-year period.

— Brain scans reveal an age-specific impact on the brain, with people under 60 having no significant difference and people over 60 having a more noticeable (but still not huge) negative impact.

— “Long Covid” is real, especially regarding sense of smell, but it is also rare.

— Most media headlines on these issues have been irresponsible in overstating the level of brain harm a typical person should expect.

Now let’s go through the study details!

The study cited by Marginal Revolution examined changes over time in the brains, comparing people who did and didn’t get Covid.

Their intro describes: “…loss of grey matter in limbic cortical areas directly linked to the primary olfactory and gustatory system.”
Now let’s look at the data. Here’s Figure 1 in the paper:
