Currently at the dentist having a molar pulled.

Tooth has been broken for quite some time and as of last night could no longer stand the pain and infection.

"Your gonna feel a little pinch...."

Pinch my ass......it's a damn fire hot poker filled with copperhead venom.

Ahhh yessss........the........ nitrous......much better now.....

Roots of the tooth go almost to my sinus and fish hook.

Took a good long time wiggling and pulling but she came out.

I forgot to ask for the tooth or I'd have posted some interesting pics....

Doc says I made the right decision. Root canal and bridge would have broke as the tooth was fractured into the root. She was surprised she was able to get it all out in one piece.

Now I'm on a course of antibiotics and painkillers.

No stitches though, filled the deep part of the hole with collagen and than used superglue.

Pro tip.......don't ever get superglue on the roof of your mouth........or tongue....wish I didn't know why.

Off for a dinner of vegetable broth.....ugh.....and I'm hungry too......

You absolutely have my sympathies. I had to have my wisdom teeth out in my late 30s. All four of them. And the roots were all curled around the nerves. The ortho was also a teacher of his art and he was all yippee skippee, I've never seen the like. Now I have something new and interesting to show my students. Geez he was so lucky they had put me to sleep and it took me a while to fully wake up.

Then I had a weak molar split in fourths. They chipped a couple of my teeth getting the remainder of it out. Imagine if you will the dentist having two assistance hold me still and she braced her foot on the chair to pull the last of it out. I didn't feel a a thing until later and it was only then that I realized some of my teeth were chipped. That one did get infected.

I don't hate going to the dentist ... my first dentist was my mother's uncle ... but it isn't exactly my favorite activity in the world either. Sigh.

oh honey....i feel your pain.

i had to have a molar pulled last year in january. mine did the same thing as far as how it was entrenched, and the dentist said i almost broke the record for how many pieces it broke into as he was trying to extract it. i was in that chair for a very long time. he said my bones did not want to give it up! he was sweating! lol

it was a very unpleasant and painful procedure with unexpected events. but, that seems to be "normal" for me, and he is a love for getting in there and getting it done.

do not use a straw!

try as hard as you can not to have suction in the mouth, like from smoking or drinking or anything. that suction can pull the clots out and you can get a dry socket. i had dry sockets on my wisdom teeth when i was 15. i did everything right, but still got them and they suck. and then i got infections because the stupid dentist at the time just blew me off and said i was being a baby and i was just grittin my teeth in my sleep.

idiot.

he didnt even admit he was wrong, but just acted like i was bothering him.

anyway, don't use a straw to drink as that can really increase the risk of a dry socket.

Well, that's your problem! You had a girl tooth in there. Manly teeth would never do such a thing. They'd just pop out when ordered, not want to talk about it. :lkick:

Get better soon.

We're doing the crown and prep work for my bridge this week and next week, and then we do the prep work and build my partial plate over the month of April (if I get lucky, that is.) I'm psyched to get the results of that day of 10 extractions done AND IN MY MOUTH. It's been 3-4 months and this is LONG ENUF!!!!!

Packrat, I hope you have a quick and uneventful recovery!

The Novocain (or whatever) into the upper jaw/palate - OMG! They are the worst.

Here’s my dental hell - I‘ve got 4 appointments and one second opinion scheduled in the next month. One new crown broke, so they replaced it for free. It broke again 2 weeks ago. It’s ripping up the inside of my mouth. One crown just completely came off, also about 2 weeks ago. And I get a permanent bridge installed too.

The second opinion is with an oral surgeon who does implants. I’m going to ask him how much $ I should spend on “keeping my natural teeth” before I say, “pull them all and give me implants.” I’m about done.

Now you talkin'! One tooth isn't fun, for sure. But imagine getting every tooth in your mouth pulled at the same time...like I did. I had some good ones in there, but they were scattered around...and they would have only made eating much more of a problem than removing them along with the bad ones would. So...I went 'all or nothing'... Imagine drinking all your meals for at least 2 months straight...pain no matter how you position your jaws...sleeping facing the ceiling because laying on either side caused great pain.

My dentist a top notch guy cuts the molars in sections then removes them a root piece at a time, It’s less painful and less jerking that way. Just smelly & dirty.. My teeth are not terrible but those molar roots went crazy locking in and around my jaw bone. I stay up on dental because it could be killer in a grid down.

Mouth and jaw is very, VERY sore this am.

Cannot open up my jaw fully......

Craving a loaded up cheeseburger...:bwl::bwl:......
But alas, no ability to chew such a masterpiece of culinary marvel at this time.......
I would even slather mayo all over it too, and an over easy egg, bacon, sautéed mushrooms and onions, baby spring greens and thick slice tomato, provolone and habanero jack cheese, all on a toasted onion roll.......

I'm so hungry.....I can picture all the pics from the deathburger threads in my head......

did i mention that I'm hungry?

mashed potatoes and gravy just wont cut it.....unless you add slaw baked beans and fried chicken. Than I'm right back to where i started.

At least I can sip coffee.....

Time to go rinse my mouth with saltwater......

I feel your pain, brother! I had all of my upper teeth pulled the first of December. I found out about a thing called 'root resorption'. Basically the roots of your teeth dissolve and the teeth start falling out. Ain't I the lucky one! I've got a POS temporary plate. It will be several months until the gums heal to the point that I can get a real plate made. Damn but getting old sucks!!!!

And for a day or so, leave coffee alone. Instead suck on a tea bag. Just put it in the palm of your hand, soak it in warm water and pat it with your finger until the water starts turning 'tea colored'. Then put it between the cheek and gum on the side where the pain is. Within a minute or 2, the pain should be gone. Btw, tea has caffeine in it, too.

DW's crown popped off two weeks back.....because she was chewing on saltwater taffy....doh! Broke out my emergency dental kit and my head flashlight. She laid up on the kitchen counter while I cleaned the crown and the remaining nub of her tooth of any of the old cement. Prepped the area, IRM (dental cement) on the crown, inserted it and had her bite down on a rolled 4x4 gauze. It seated just fine after a little adjustment and lasted until we could get into our dentist which took about two weeks because of bad weather and a power outage at the dental office.

I asked our dentist how it looked and he said he'd give me a A+ and that I was probably best UNlicensed dentist on the mountain. :chg: There was some decay under her crown but without proper anesthetic I was going to go digging it out and we were able to get her in soon enough that it didn't become an issue. DW's lucky she didn't need a root canal, but no more taffy for her.

FWIW, dental was one of my biggest headaches when ever I deployed to parts unknown during my naval career. Teeth always seemed to SUDDENLY go bad when there was not dentist within a thousand miles.....or more....or days of travel away. When under stress dental issues can suddenly become emergency issues very quickly.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: if you don't have an emergency dental kit in your preps, I STRONGLY SUGGEST you get one and learn some basic emergency treatments. It's not hard, but can be a life saver.

The thing about dental issues is they never fix themselves. They may go away for a period to rise up again later. I'm a big believed in dealing with dental issues early. Especially these days when you never know what's comin' at us next. Think Tom Hanks as the castaway, talking to Wilson on the island...

My last wife, now deceased, had post on 4 implants, upper & lower. No issues. She had bad teeth, a congenital issue as most of her family had dentures or a mouth full of bad teeth. Prices were way less then but it was still thousands however, $$$ well spent as she never faced another painful session in a chair or the related expense.

My current wife also had sketchy teeth even as a child & I think economics precluded good dental care so she had pain and expense for most of her life. She was in hospital & BapMem in Memphis lost or discarded her appliances so she got dentures. Pure hell; never got a decent fit & honestly looked bad too - way too big for her face & bones structure. When she couldn't get a proper fit I finally convinced her to visit a clinic offering Post on 4. She's had a few fitting issues but by & large, they're working well & look was more appropriate in size etc. It took longer than promised but stuff happens.

I think the big thing is not being their 1st attempt and making sure the denturist is well experienced and competent; the extractions etc are pretty straight forward (never fun but. ....) so the denturist is key from what I've seen.

I've heard some crazy expensive pricing from the "all done in day" guys. We ended up paying about 12K & except for replacing the gaskets/grommets on the posts, that should be it. She eats steaks, grilled chops or pretty much anything she likes. She did have an issue of irritation on her lower jaw but 1 trip fixed that. We might have to see them again for another touch up but I think her being ill just now is part of the problem. Once we get her healthy again, we'll see but for now, it might have been the best 12K we've spent.
