Texas Nationalist Movement is enjoying quite a resurgence at the moment. Maybe my Grandkids will see something come of it. I saw folks from other states on the Texas petition

Why the hell are New York and New Jersey on there, I thought those states wanted Obammy to rule over them?

Are people doing this in protest or are they serious? It's quite a big deal to secede and create a new government.

However, they will need the support of their state governments which I do not see happening in about half of them.

I wonder what liberals think of this. Do they just see a bunch of people sore over the new prez or do they actually realize that their decision is going to kill many Americans? People are going to starve, forced out of their homes, and people will be fighting one another. You can't tax people into the ground and hand out money. Welfare will run out.

I'm sure most of the people on the board do understand. If you took offense, sorry, wasn't meant in your direction.

Never thought I'd see the US break up in my lifetime.

Unfortunately, this is mostly symbolic. When I saw this yesterday I did some research. There are certain strict conditions related to seceding from the fed. There are only three states that currently have the right. Those are Texas, Alaska, and Hawaii. This is due to their status when they became states. Virginia attempted to secede during the war between the states. They were forced back in.

Even if it were possible, I'm sure it would end up in the supreme court for a long battle. There would be many financial issues that would have to be resolved. Technically, states are indebted to the feds by previous commitment. I don't think they can just walk away from that.

I clicked on that website and viewed the Texas petition which had over 7,000 electronic signatures. That petition is on the White House website. The First Amendment provides that citizens may petition the government so this is a direct application of that right.

There are two things I find disturbing. The website said I had already signed the petition, which was/is not true. Second it seems to me that this is a convenient way for the government to compile a list of "traitors" to target for various investigations and tax audits or even detention in the event of a rebellion.

The secessionists have it backwards. The states won't secede from the federal government like they did 161 years ago. The federal government will secede from them by collapsing from a lack of revenue. All the states have to do is watch and wait. In the end all power not held by the federal government will revert to the states.

Well, I've got about a dozen friends here in NJ. None of them voted for Obozo. Including my long time black friend, he knows better...

But none of my friends are GIBSMEDATS. Obozo won NJ because of the inner city hell holes, places like Camden, Newark, and Patterson...

NJ is much more than just those dumps. Don't judge a book by it's cover...

I'm not sure I follow you. Are you saying it will be ugly?

Here's the thing. We are in such a horrific mess this one thing is for sure: We can't continue on the path we're on now.

America should have remained a confederation from the start.

Perhaps we can return to a confederation of fifty independent
states, with ONLY a military structure for mutual defense.

The existing federal government is the greatest force for evil
in America.

Don't be so sure - I've got quite a few white friends here in NJ who voted for Obama. They think he's a "nice guy" and Romney is a "meany" and that's about as much thought they give to politics. After all, it's FOOTBALL season dontchaknow?

Yea, you do have a point Tech...

My neighbor was like that 4 years ago. He figured Obozo was young and hip, plus it would be a "good thing" to have our first black President. But he changed his tune this year. I can't believe more people didn't smarten up this time...

I'm sure lots of people held their nose when they voted for Romney. But I figure holding your nose is much better than pulling a plastic bag over your head, and sealing it shut with crazy glue... :D

Really? At any one time, half of them would have seen no need to contribute to the national defense. The Southern Confederacy the classic example. The GA. gov saw no reason to send troops to VA to defend VA, and the Gov of VA saw no reason to support troops from other states even if they were starving and naked in front of him and so on.

What you are talking is the Balkans. Not a nice place to live and when the US breaks up, it won't be a nice place to live either.

Let me add just one more thing...

I really believed we were starting to get smart here in NJ. We elected Christie, the first R Gov we've had in long time...

But I guess I underestimated the power of stupidity. "You can't always get what you want", indeed...

"A whitehouse.gov account is required to sign Petitions." Color me crazy but I am NOT getting a whitehouse.gov account to sign a secession petition! Probably already on a take out list but don't want to call extra attention to myself.

I think that it's not so much that the idea of the nation state itself is on the way out, rather those nation states that have enervated themselves through the usual excessive regulations, taxes and spending, importing vast numbers of tribescritters who have no intention of assimilating to their new home and who are regularly excused from their notably bad behaviour and rampant criminality by the progressive elites who espouse the values of the multi-culti circus where all cultures and religions are equal, except that Christianity, Judaism and Western Culture are less equal than all the others.

After the inevitable collapse, nation states will arise again. These may not be the continent spanning nations of today, but will more or less be representative of more or less homogenous groups of peoples.

Look, I'm not picking on you, but if this is the popular view, then the country really is lost...

This is how sheep think. As long as they get fed and entertained by "the system", they just sit back and "enjoy" it. They never bother to take a stand against what they know is wrong...

We need people to stand up and make some damned noise! We need people that aren't afraid to tell the .gov to go f itself. We need people like the founding fathers, willing to take on the huge pile of crap that is facing all of us...

Or you can just sit there and take what you get. Under the radar, off the "public record", afraid of the beast...

YMMV...

'Scuse me Sysman but I think we have made a lot of damn noise and fat lot of good it has done! TPTB don't give a flying fig about what we want, they have an agenda and intend to see it through. It matters not what we think or want. You do what you need to do and I will do what I need to. I am NOT registering on a .gov site of any kind.

I stand corrected. :o

I looked at the results by county and the city :kk1: is all that essentially matters in an election. I did not look up NJ but will consider it the same after reading the posts.

Kings County D = 503,000 R = 108,000
New York County D = 417,000 R = 72,000
Bronx County D = 288,000 R = 26,000
Queens County D = 399,000 R = 103,000

Totals for the Rotten Apple
D = 1,607,000
R = 309,000

New York State
D = 3,875,000
R = 2,226,000

OK Sherry, I understand, and I really don't blame you. I'm just trying to make a point...

We lost a big battle with this election, but the war is not over. Now is not the time to give up, now is not the time to just sit back and take it...

Keep involved, keep making noise. I think any "petition to secede" has about a snowballs chance in hell of being successful. But it does give us a voice, and it MAY be the start of something larger...

At least I hope so, for all of us...

Screw the traps, war is full of traps. Just ask guys like George Washington, who crossed the Delaware River about 2 miles from here. Or John Hart, he lost his farm to the British after he signed the DOI, about 3 miles from here...

Hey whitehouse.gov, if you're listening... :fgr:

Yep- and if you pull Buffalo and Rochester out, Repubs have a decent MAJORITY in this state. We often wonder why we bother voting at all (aside from the question of fraud and whether it counts!) We do generally for local races, but know that anything like a Senator or National races, we're simply outnumbered.

Of course, if something even worse than Sandy happens, that won't stop the residents from swarming over the red areas like locusts, demanding all the resources of the "country bumpkins" who "cling to their Bibles and guns".

Thankfully, I'm WAY out of the range of them, on the opposite end of the state.

I wonder what the white house thinks of this? I don't think it has happened since the civil war.

This has been happening for quite some time. Heck, we have at least 3 separate Texas Republic movements with each proclaiming that they are the legitimate government of Texas. Texas even had a standoff with one of them under McLaren back in the '97. They lost.

A quick list of the major movements is seen here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_separatist_movements_in_North_America

The petition site is totally goofy. It appears anyone can post anything. It's someone's opinion only. It is not binding. Read through all the silly petitions that are found there. There is even a petition to outlaw Jesus and Moses. That one has thousands of votes (I think 33k, if not mistaken),

Here is the page outlawing Jesus, et. al.

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/outlaw-offending-prophets-major-religions/94kL1tsN

Actually it is a petition to outlaw offending a prophet of a major religion, following from the site:

we petition the obama administration to:

outlaw offending prophets of major religions

To enact a law that prohibits any action or literature that offend prophets of major religions:

- Moses

- Jesus

- Mohammad

Such acts offend billions of people, and cause unrest in the world. Furthermore, acts like this contradict the essence of coexistence and peace among humans. Labeling these acts as freedom of speech is similar to labeling murder as freedom of expression!

After the inevitable collapse, nation states will arise again. These may not be the continent spanning nations of today, but will more or less be representative of more or less homogenous groups of peoples.

This has been on my mind recently. Not formal secession but the collapse of central government control after some trigger event that causes local governments to fend for themselves, to construct some sort of regional goverment. I tend toward a civil disturbance after economic collapse as the trigger event. Red precincts will band together out of necessity leaving the blue city/precincts to themselves. This is how we will separate ourselves from them and their socialist policies. The red states/precincts have all the farms, ranches, resources to start again and to fend off any incursions from the blue precincts. It could get ugly as the blue areas will be under a de facto siege and if precincts started cleansing their perspective areas ideologically.

In California, much the the agricultural and mountain precincts are conservative. It amazes me when visiting the central valley, young people working at fast food restaurants, or other retail establishments are extremely polite and helpful. Their smile and demeanor are quite different than those here in the San Francisco area where I thank the grocery checker and bagger and they barely notice me. California is state that is as politically divided as is the rest of the country and both are ready to implode from their deficits. I imagine that after some trigger event, central and eastern California will band together along with eastern Oregon and eastern Washington and separate themselves politically from the liberals on the coastal counties which I dub "Alta California."

Petitions to secede at least will plant the seeds for the idea separating ourselves from a socialistic central government and the liberal cities which put them in power. I, too never thought the country could break apart, but now I am finding it palatable to the liberal drivel and insane policies.
