Hard liquor shortage in Vermont.

WINOOSKI, Vt. (WCAX) - Vermont is in the midst of a liquor shortage. State regulators say the shortage is related to the pandemic and it’s leading to empty shelves in stores and warehouses.

Preparation continues for the opening day of The Archives’ second location in Winooski. The arcade bar originally was supposed to open up last year, but the pandemic kept them closed until Thursday. Now, the bar’s Matthew Walters says they face another obstacle. “The liquor shortage has been a challenge,” he said.

And it’s not just the bars and restaurants.

“There’s enough to at least have your second choice if not your first,” said George Bergin with the Beverage Warehouse in Winooski. “With all the bars and restaurants opening up everywhere, everyone is trying to restock their shelves and it’s just taking a little bit of time to get caught up with the sudden demand.”

“It is a global issue. A lot of it has been exacerbated by the pandemic. It’s not going to be a quick fix,” said Vt. Department of Liquor and Lottery Deputy Commissioner Wendy Knight

Vermont is among state that uses a control model for distilled spirits, which means the state acts as a wholesaler. After purchasing the liquor, it distributes it to stores licensed by the state, which then sell it to the public and to bars and restaurants. But a visit to the state warehouse where it is all stored shows shelves that are emptier than usual.

“When consumers see empty shelves and empty spots on the 802 Spirits stores, we have to understand that we have a global supply chain issue,” Knight said. She says those issues are from production gearing back up from the pandemic, worker shortages, shipping issues, and a glass shortage. That comes on top of demand from restaurants and bars reopening.

Knight says the state saw a 13% increase in liquor sales during the pandemic. “We are not raising prices to compensate for the lack of supply,” she said. She adds that they are focusing on prioritizing the service industry. “Knowing that they have been closed down for the past 15 months, it’s a priority that they have the stock they need.”

“We will go and pick it up if we have to, to make sure we can still provide the cocktails and drinks that people have grown to love,” said The Archives’ Walters. He says their bar is fully stocked and they’ll do what they have to in order to keep it that way.

“We will keep trying to find what we can with what we have and if we have to change things around, we will.”
Some of the current hot commodities are tequila and whiskey. That has also boosted sales in things like cocktails in a can that are ready to go.

Haven't seen much in the way of work shorts this year.

Specifically, the ones made out of firehose material, like Carhartt or Key or any of the better brands.

A few in El Cheepo, house brand...but they just don't last.

I was looking for new sheets at quite a few shops online this morning. I can’t remember which one exactly, but right at the top of their page was a “supply chain and delivery “ disclaimer affecting possible orders being delayed.

These were shops that specialize in sheets and bedding, not Target or Walmart.

I know someone who is waiting for a controller for the DEF system on their RV.

They were told 1-2 months.

Until it shows up, they have an expensive yard ornament.

I know there have been several threads on shortage of Ammo. So this will be sort of a contrary post.

I was given a gift card for Fathers Day to a local Military Surplus Store, that also carries tactical gear.

We finally got to go a couple of days ago, and I knew what I wanted before we left the house. Tru-spec tactical pants. Since I have several in various colors, I was thinking my beige/kaki colored ones (which I had on) were getting a bit old maybe about 10 years or so, so was thinking of getting another one of those to replace, when they finally bite the dirt. If I had of known my 'flaged one's (you know the one's camels wear) would rip a knee out yesterday I would have gotten some of them, but I'm not blessed with that kind of foresight. Anyway.....

I couldn't help myself got the coyote colored ones. While looking at those the entire Monroe County Sherriff's department came in to get some clothes and gear, all 6 of 'em. So got inline to pay for them. And low and behold, there they were.

My jaw hit the floor, slobber was running everywhere. SB said, What?

And I said, "Looooook!"
"What?"
"It's M855's!!!!!!"
"What?"
"It's bullets!"
"Well, if you can get some, you might had better get some."

Everybody needs a wife like that, so I got 'em. A box of 150 for 130.00. Which is high, but I got 'em. And I did it right in front of the entire Monroe Sherriff's dept. Cool all the way around.

Support your local Army surplus store. LOL

Local mom and pop grocery that sells plate lunches had a sign up yesterday that said they had to use different containers due to the inability to obtain their normal containers for plate lunches.

Not that you're in the market for jet fuel. gs

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Burlington International Airport officials tell Channel 3 News a wholesaler in Albany, N.Y. that provides jet fuel to most of BTV’s major airlines ran out of juice.Leaders say multiple loads that were supposed to arrive in South Burlington Saturday never made it.Delta, American, and United Airlines’ supplies have run dry. But Frontier and JetBlue Airlines don’t rely on this fuel, so those planes are stocked.Heritage Aviation is the company that distributes fuel from the Albany vendor to the airlines. CEO Matt Collins tells Channel 3 News this is a rare situation.“This has never happened. I’ve been on the air field for almost 13 years now, and I have not seen this. We have gotten close before, but never really completely out,” Collins said.Collins says Heritage Aviation is reserving some fuel for a medical emergency. He says the impacted airlines can choose to take off, then fill up at another airport, but that’s their call.Collins and airport officials say they’re expecting three to four shipments of fuel Monday, which should fix the problem.

Went to the feed store today, which appears to be struggling with getting good help.

Only had a few bags of chicken feed left. Only had a few bags of water softener salt left. No cockatiel feed. Had pine bedding, but only a small stack left after I left.

The poor clerk then had to restart the computer. At least my credit card worked.

A local news station just did a live stream on their FB page and it seems there is a fuel shortage in Las Vegas. Some of the comments during her stream confirmed it. I stay topped off every week even if I have more than 3/4 of a tank so I am not too worried yet. Now when I have to take DD to CA that could be another game altogether. This is a screenshot from the livestream

I only use liquid detergent, and have for over 20 years. Was unhappy with powder not dissolving properly.

The only thing I use powder on is at the drip line of my Live Oak trees to combat Wilt. Liquid for the clothes and I get the cheapest dollar store stuff. Works fine.

Reading through this thread is jaw dropping. If there was any normalcy bias left, it just split.

Inland Empire here -4 hours from Vegas (DD lives there). No gas shortages over this way, and I fill up several times per week. Can't wait for Sam's Club Gas to finish remodeling- cheapest gas in town and sometimes hour-long lines.

I'm not sure if a cargo container ship finally got unloaded...

Last Thursday (Jul 15) I ordered Ubiquiti gear (firewall, POE switch, AP) multiple cameras, UPS, rack to upgrade my VFD's network and CCTV system. Multiple items were available for Friday delivery, however I moved everything to this week for my convenience.

This is the first time in probably two months maybe more that prime had items available for delivery next day.

Seeker22, could you please explain the use of powdered detergent for wilt? I'm guessing oak leaf wilt is your concern. We have a few new oaks we planted earlier in the year and I'm watching them closely.

So DD's boss was part of a "Subject Matter Experts Panel" that included representatives from major companies like Nestle and Tyson Chicken. The supply chain issue is huge and they do not expect it to get any better before 2023.

As a side personal note, there must have been a leak in my shower and when DD leaned against the tile it caved in. Was not a huge leak (we never noticed a leak) but enough to soften the area behind the tile. Landlord wants to install one of those all one piece type of things (can't remember the name). It's on backorder and no one knows for how long. He's checked several places. In the meantime he has torn out all the tile and drywall down to the studs to make sure there's not a larger leak somewhere. There's not. But now I have no shower in my bath room. It's down to the studs. He called a couple contractors to get pricing but they don't have enough help and told him it would be at least 3-4 months before they could get to it. Thank God the main bathroom is still good

It is not that hard to get done. Hard board with a sealer and install tile.

But yeah, my friends are telling me that they are balls to the walls and are working long days and up to 7 days per week. They do showers.... a lot....

Just tried to buy some Hog Ring pliers. Had auto feed, etc. So it would work for my purpose. Delivery date was end of AUGUST!!!!

WTF!!!!!

Found some thing else to buy, but that really is stupid. This is the 2nd time in a month that I had to cancel an order. People are running out of things to sell.

We stopped in at Tractor Supply for the first time in months to check chicken feed and cattle feed. Our local feed store has seen price increases, so I wanted to compare them with TS.

My gosh! Prices are drastically up. Cattle cubes went from $10 to $13, thank heavens we don't need any. Last chicken scratch we bought there months ago was $10 now over $14, layer crumbles in many/most brands now $16-$20.

We'll stick with our local feed store, at least it isn't far away and we're supporting our small town store.

Our SUV started having some electric issues, and it ended up being an ECU/ECM (part of the computer control). Found the problem back in May (by a reasonably large auto mechanic chain). Could not get part, on back order until July 19th. System would not let an order be placed, so they said they would check on it daily. Call came yesterday, they can now order them, but shows as only 3 in stock in the whole USA.

Elder relatives finally decided that going out to the garage, moving their generator outside, and trying to start it was a bit of a liability for them now. Also expecting aging and busy nearby family members to come over and help get it going wasn't the best plan either.

I explained this in detail to them Summer of 2019 after watching their house for a couple months while they were in sunny Florida. 'Oh we're fine. The power doesn't go out that often. If we have to sit in the dark for a while so be it. The power will come back on.' Etc.

Well they finally got enough pressure or cajoling by family and friends that they decided to talk to someone about it.

January. Yup, January. Electric guy that sells and installs them said there are none available and present orders are expected in January. Also, he having trouble finding help. They're supposed to confirm tomorrow.

A friend owns a trailer manufacturing company. They can't find the spring hangers and he called me to find a solution. I made him this custom press brake to go in his shop press to make them himself. Pictured are some test bends in 1/4" x 3" wide steel plate. The hangers are to deep to make in an ordinary press brake because the first bent piece folds over and hits the press die. I designed this with a press die open on top, simulating a horizontal press brake but used like a vertical.

I know it's not making guns but still fun to figure out. For scale the bottom plate is 1 1/2" thick pre hardened tool steel

We just installed a 22kw water cooled, it only took 4+ months to get here.

There were dirt dauber nests on the side of the block.

WAG, it sat somewhere for awhile, waiting on a part to be finished.

There is a major shortage in tractor parts. About a moth ago, DH got the last of some part he needed...in the United States. I told him then to go ahead and order anything he thought he might need. He didn't listen. Now waiting on a part that has been ordered, but has no projected delivery date.

Same thing happened with dozer parts. He ordered several rollers or something. When he went to pick them up the guy told him they had 3 more on the shelf and that they were the last 3 in the country. He did buy those.

In his off time, DH buys, refurbishes and sells older tractors and farming implements. He told me last week that he has never sold so much in one year. Interesting times.

We went up to Tractor Supply for a new metal poultry waterer (font) for the chickens. They didn't have many, but my gosh a 2gal waterer was $30! I don't recall them ever being near that much, so I checked on Amazon for a price comparison and theirs are $35. Our feed store had none.
