Dear Hartsfield,

I am Barrister DAN EDWARD,a Solicitor. I am the Personal Attorney to ENGR.MARK HARTSFIELD, a national of your country, who was a contractor with CHEVRON OIL SERVICES in Nigeria. On the 2nd of April 2000, my client, his wife And their three children were involved in a car accidentAll occupants of the vehicle unfortunately lost thier lives.Since then I have made several enquiries to your embassy to locate any of my clients extended relatives, this has also Proved unsuccessful. After these several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to trace his relatives over the Internet, to locate any member of his family but to no avail, hence I contacted you.

I have contacted you to assist in repartrating the money and property left behind by my client, before they get confisicated or declared unserviceable by the bank where this huge deposits were lodged.Particularly, the Bank where the deceased had an account valued at about $5.5 million dollars has issued me a notice to provide the next of kin or have the account confisicated within the next ten official working days.

Since i have been unsuccesfull in locating the relatives for over 2 years now I seek your consent to present you as the next of kin of the deceased since you are from the same country so that the proceeds of this account valued at $5.5 million dollars can be paid to you as his next of kin and then you and me can share the money. 65% to me and 30% to you, while 5% should be for expenses or tax as your government may require.
I have all necessary legal documents that can be used to back up any claim we may make. All I require is your honest cooperation to enable us see this deal through.

I guarantee that this will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law. Please if you have accepted in transacting this deal with me,get in touch with me through my Telephone Number--234 8034396683 and as well email me through my alternative email address which is: danedwardchambers@yahoo.com indicating your interest and also to discuss further so as tell you the necessary proceedings to follow to get this fund transfered to your bank account. sadly, there are people in the world who fall prey to these types of emails every single day. they never think to ask the simple questions that would prevent them from being victimized, such as:

what "barrister" uses such poor grammar as "you and me can share the money".

what legitimate barrister uses a Yahoo email account?

2 simple questions, which when asked should raise alert flags in the minds of the recipients, but people only see the promise of easy money.

i ALMOST think that people who fall prey to these things get what they deserve. i'm not entirely heartless, however, so i'll maintain a little sympathy for people too dumb to know better. but only a little. :)

I can't tell you how many times I've won multiple millions. If I would only cooperate with these friendly guys so they could have access to my bank account. I guess I'm just not the sharing type. Maybe next time...........

This, according to a weekly virus, scam and general computer tips newsletter I receive:

Did You Know: Five Percent of Phishing Victims Take the Bait? While that may not seem like a huge number, consider that there were 1,974 unique phishing scams in July (2004) alone. Each one reached millions of potential victims. The organization most targeted by phishing attacks was Citibank. Are you starting to see the severity of these scams? Now consider that there is currently a 50% monthly growth rate of phishing attacks; and that number is likely to rise.
