GUNS/RLTD Orlando Gun Show Report

This ain’t the crusades or Ancient Rome. Nobody’s gonna melee fight with swords. While it’s fun to talk and joke about, that’s pretty much it.

Remember Indiana Jones....

It's just a movie.....But,
Indy was supposed to fight the guy, but Harrison Ford was dead-on-his-feet from Malaria and improvised the scene.
Moral: Flashy Showing off is stupid. When it's time to fight, fight.
Tueller Drill shows that flap-holstered Indy would likely have lost to a real determined adversary.

CAS Iberia for swords. Cold Steel has some stuff too.

If you poke around on eBay enough, there's good stuff there too. But rather than swords, look at Cold Steel's blunt weapons, and there are quite a few makers that do combat-grade tomahawks and axes. Swords take specialized training to be useful, but most anyone can swing a baseball bat or axe, and the reach is about the same.

I would take a single-edged short-sword/machete/similar long before a bat if I had my druthers.
I've seen enough people hit with their own axe (the weight distribution surprises most, even when chopping wood) I'd hesitate to advise it. If you miss it often levers into you.

If we get back to that point, it is back to Darwinistic Survival of the Fittest.
It takes Physical Ability and Skill to use melee weapons.

Understand everything but this bit:

"Glock 43 $1099....oh yeah, it folds."

it folds?

Full Conceal? (9:13)

And then there's IDEALCONCEAL.COM, a small cell phone sized .380 that holds 2 rounds. No, I am not a part of this company.... I had been checking them out for a while. Had been getting email updates on the building and marketing of this weapon. Still haven't decided if I 'need' it or not... ;)
A little pricey at $575.

True, but a couple of knives wouldn't hurt.

Only if it doesn't hurt you to get cut, stabbed or shot.... :D

Knife on gun you loose if the gunner knows what they are doing, knife on knife you will at least get cut if the other knifer knows what they are doing. I carry a pocketknife as a tool and only as a last ditch weapon or a surprise getoffofme.

YNMMV of course (your ninja mileage may vary)

Why though. Kimber Micro 9 isn't any larger than a modern cellphone and holds 6+1 rounds of 9mm.

Why? Because it doesn’t look like a gun. That obfuscation could well save your life.

Neither does the Kimber in the DeSantis SuperFly holster. My left pocket has keys and wallet in it and looks bulkier than the right one with the holstered Micro.
5.11 makes some niiiiiice pants that don't look like cargo pants but you could hide a Glock 19 in there and it wouldn't show.

Thread drift is what we DO. Dennis will be here shortly about binary triggers. He likes 'em (I don't).

Best concealed carry is like best body armor, in that the ‘best’ for you
is whatever version that you are most likely to always be wearing.

Stopping power of either is secondary, and goes to zero if it’s home
in a drawer cause it's too bulky and/or uncomfortable to always wear.

Panic Early, Beat the Rush!

PS - This is just S&W mdl 60 with bobbed hammer carrying +P+ .38's,
but it ends up being my go-to carry more often than not cause it's so
quick & easy to wear with anything, even gym shorts. No holster with
its integral grip tang. Invisible under tightest t-shirts at appendix front
right carry, and its got that 'all day forget about it' comfort nailed...

Day by day
I stopped in at Academy Sports in Huntsville, pretty much still decimated in the ammo section. Didn't even look to see what they had in their cases.

They had some 12 gauge and 20 gauge bird shot. Some 40 cal CCP snake shot, about a dozen boxes of 30-06 and half a dozen 30-30. Not much else.

More concerning to me than the ongoing lack of product was a handful of youngish (20s?) guys who appeared to be alone slowly walking the aisles in that area. They weren't really looking at rounds available, just continually cruising up one aisle, into the next aisle, and coming back again. It's possible they were security, or not. I didn't get a warm fuzzy about them, and was pretty darn cautious walking back to my car (which I always park out in the open in the parking lot for visibility). I guess anyone looking buying rounds is a potential target.

Could be that I'm overthinking the situation, but I'm always cautious nowadays.

Got me one of those cold steel khukari machetes. Have used it to clear small trees from the road on the way up to the house and it worked fairly well. Not as good as an axe or, better yet, a chain saw. Not quite heavy enough to really dig into the wood. Now if I could get one with a bit more weight in the blade it would make something that would cleave a skull or three.

I've heard Tramontina is a good machete brand from brazil.

SOG makes a decent full tang knife, from my limited experience.

My friend and I got there about 1030am but it opened at 900am. The parking lot was PACKED. My friend was looking for a double stack mag type mid-size 9mm, he was looking to spend $500 but was flexible if he needed to be. It was nuts to butts walking around in this place it was so busy. After about 10 minutes of looking around it was abundantly clear that he wasn't going to come close to that price point. All 9mm double stacked mag pistols were all well over MSRP and people couldn't buy them fast enough. I've never seen shit like this. Any acceptable 9mm pistol was $700 and up, everything else was sold barely two hours after opening. A lot of ebonics being spoken, too. Ammo prices were just as bad. I saw Wolf Gold .223 for $600 for 1K rounds, bulk pistol round prices were a joke but PEOPLE WERE BUYING huge 500/1000 round boxes. Pump shotguns were NON-EXISTENT, not one to be found in this huge show.

I witnessed a table with new Glocks on it, some priced beyond any sane person's limit. Glock 43 $1099....oh yeah, it folds. Glock G23C $1100, Glock G45 $749, Glock G22C $850, Glock Gen 4 17 $699, Glock Gen 4 19 $1100. The guy behind the table had a serious look on his face as I was taking pics and laughing. Sig P365's were $100 over MSRP. People were in line several yards long filling out paperwork. We left empty handed but we stopped at a family owned gun shop about two miles before my neighborhood. They didn't have much at all but they did have a Gen 5 Glock 19 for $650 so my buddy bought it. I bought my Gen 4 19 and Gen 4 26 (for my wife) both for $420 out the door but that was a few years ago with my LEO discount. Times they are a changing.

Could you please modify your post to tell us what city/state?

This is a interesting thread to me but rather expensive
You can make a single shot nail shooting air gun for $25 that shoots clean through a 2x12 at ten yards. It can be pumped up in 15 seconds from a $20 12 volt pump or filled in 5 seconds from a small air tank at 90 PSI.

Not much for more than one person but I can pick off people size targets with it at 30 yards without making much noise. You can 3d print nail dart cones, blunts or cones for under 1 cent each. It would break a rib with a blunt dart at ten yards.

I have several other barrels for it that shoot other things from tennis balls to a bolo for shooting down drones. I have a 2" barrel for it to launch "Simulated" artillery through it to over 300 yards.

I've got one that I have used with a .22LR upper, a 5.56 upper and a 9mm upper. When I use it with the 9mm upper, I do have to switch the buffer to one that's meant to be run with the CMMG upper I have. I haven't had one failure that was related to the binary trigger with any of these systems. Highly recommended.

One thing not everyone considers is that the real short barreled pistols need their recoil springs changed out rather frequently or their jam rate skyrockets. As in changing them out every 1000 rounds with the 3" barreled pistols vs every 5000 rounds for a full size 5" barreled pistol. I carry a 5" barreled Springfield Armory 1911A1 using the plastic belt loop "holster" that came with the gun under an outside shirt. I have worn the same under a loose long white t-shirt while shopping and at parties, with nobody giving me a second glance.

I have been working back at my old gun shop this week helping them get caught up. Background checks are taking up to 30 hours, longer on Fridays (Normally 5 to 15 minutes).

Most noteworthy is the number of ebonics speakers coming in for stripped lowers. We sold maybe 3 to them in over ten years, there have been three a day all week. It seems everyone is getting armed up.

I have had several non gun owning cops call me begging for an AR. They were disappointed. If a cop does not own any guns outside of work there is something seriously wrong with them.
The civil war is coming.

So, obviously blacks have money to go buy guns....and lowers aren't cheap either. Sounds like they have plenty of money to spend.

A lot of jigs showing up at the ranges in the National Forest near me.
I got my own private range at my house so I don’t have to put up with them. But make no mistake they are getting ready too.
