The Russian military command suddenly puts troops on full combat alert, movements of combat vehicles and missile systems observe almost all over the country.

An activity of Russian troops is most notable in the Western part of Russia, near the borders with Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus, as well as in the Transbaikal region and the Far East. On April 8-9 active movements of a large number of military vehicles and tanks, also were seen moving of the Iskander missile systems with Air Defence support.

Some source reported about deploying command and control systems on main military naval bases and military airfields.

Russian defence officials refused to comment on any moving of troops.

Some experts attribute this to the fear of a possible US and NATO invasion of Syria after an alleged chemical attack on a Syrian rebel-held town.

It should be reminded that Ukraine’s Defenñe Minister Stepan Poltorak said in an interview that Russia has concentrated 19 battalion tactical groups of more than 77,000 troops near the Ukrainian. At the moment, the government in Kyiv is ramping up its fight to reclaim Ukraine’s restive eastern regions, at the same time Russia has deployed 77,000 troops along its border with Ukraine, included modern main battle tanks. missile systems and combat aircraft.

Russian PM orders govt to draw up response to US sanctions

Reuters|Published: 04.09.18 , 14:05
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Monday ordered his government to draw up possible retaliatory steps after the United States on Friday imposed new sanctions on Moscow, the Interfax news agency reported.

Medvedev called the new US sanctions unacceptable and illegitimate, saying Russia reserves the right to respond, Interfax reported.

Medevedev also ordered the government to draw up a plan to support entities included on the US sanctions list, the news agency said.

The United States imposed major sanctions on Friday against Russian businessmen, companies and government officials, striking at allies of President Vladimir Putin in one of Washington's most aggressive moves to punish Moscow for its alleged meddling in the 2016 US election and other "malign activity." https://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-5225165,00.html

Kremlin blasts new US anti-Russia sanctions as ‘flagrant breach of anything of everything’

MOSCOW, April 9. /TASS/. The Kremlin sees the latest anti-Russian sanctions by the United States as an "outrageous violation of anything and everything."

The situation involving latest sanctions against Russia "is outrageous from the standpoint of legality and [this] violates anything and everything," Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. Asked if the Kremlin had anticipated such a move by Washington, Peskov said that Moscow had considered "a large variety of options."

Moscow is assessing the potential damage from the new US sanctions, he explained. "This is quite a new phenomenon [the new US sanctions], and we are seeing the first manifestations of its negative impact. Of course, it takes time to analyze it, to understand the extent of the real damage and to work out steps to improve the situation as much as possible," he elaborated.

When asked about measures to support domestic companies that may suffer from sanctions, Peskov noted that this topic is "entirely the authority of the cabinet."
"This is the Cabinet, which is in charge of developing the (official) position, possible measures of support or other measures to minimize the consequences of these restrictions," he said.

According to Peskov, the Kremlin "is closely monitoring the processes on the market and, of course, is in contact with the government."

"The government is doing everything necessary to minimize the consequences of [new sanctions], and their negative impact," the Kremlin spokesman said.

When asked if the Kremlin is considering the retaliatory measures to the new US sanctions, Peskov said: "We are analyzing the situation. The interests of our country are seen as of paramount importance."

On April 6, US authorities slapped sanctions on a number of Russian officials, businessmen and companies. The list includes Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, President and Chairman of the Management Board of VTB Bank, Andrei Kostin, owner of Renova Viktor Vekselberg, Surgutneftegaz CEO Vladimir Bogdanov, Sibur board member Kirill Shamalov, businessmen Igor Rotenberg, Oleg Deripaska and Suleiman Kerimov.

The list of sanctioned companies includes several enterprises belonging to Deripaska: Agroholding Kuban, Evrosibenergo, RusAl, Russian Machines Holding and GAZ Group, B-Finance investment company, Basic Element holdings and En +.

And NO I'm not an ONLY TRUMPER 4D chess fan. It just seems prudent to hold out that possibility.

Russia cares about Palestine as a nice thumb in the Western eye, but as for the Ukraine, it depends on the "we" you mean. "We" America? "We" care because NATO, and to a lesser extent, the EU cares. Those entities, in aggregate, make up another "We" that has some reason to care about the Ukraine. There is some actual self-interest there, even if not everyone agrees that said self-interest is right.

After watching a bit I'm not too concerned about it and I wasn't last night either. Always watch the big money to see if something has legs or not. When the IDF attacked last night when peeps thought it was the U.S. if this was serious the overseas markets that were trading would of sold off within minutes and the US futures would of been tanking. And today after Russia's alert status change the markets are not concerned. Markets are not always right but big money has a way of knowing before we do if something is serious or not and the markets don't think so at this time. There might just be some coordination going on betwixt Russia, China and the U.S. as some have indicated. Hopefully the cabal will get impaled on their own spear.

Putin Orders Central Russian Troops On 'Full Combat Alert'

Vladimir Putin AP Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his troops in central Russia to be on "full combat alert" Saturday as a new wave of attacks by rebels supportive of his regime placed pressure on a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine.

According to Agence France-Presse, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told Russian news agencies the order took effect Saturday morning.

"In accordance with his (Putin's) order, from 11:00 am Moscow time (0700 GMT) the troops of the central military district ... have been put on full combat alert," Shoigu was quoted as saying.

Putin's order came about 13 hours after Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko ordered a ceasefire Friday between his troops and pro-Russian rebels in the east of the country. Poroshenko's ceasefire announcement was part of his plan to decrease tensions between his government and the rebels following months of tensions in Ukraine after protests that saw the country's pro-Moscow President Viktor Yanukovych ousted earlier this year and led to elections where Poroshenko was installed earlier this month.

Poroshenko's ceasefire deal was immediately threatened by what the Ukrainian government described as multiple rebel attacks Friday night and Saturday morning. Rebel leaders said Ukrainian troops were the ones ignoring the ceasefire. According to The Associated Press, prominent rebel leader Pavel Gubarev told the Rossiya-24 TV channel Ukrainian soldiers were either disobeying Poroshenko or the president was "lying" about the deal.

"There is no ceasefire at all," Gubarev said.

Putin's "full combat alert" order also came shortly after Russia beefed up its military presence on the Ukrainian border last week. According to The Associated Press, Shoigu said troops in Russia's central military district, which includes the Volga region and the Ural mountains, will conduct combat drills from June 21 through June 28 as a result of the order.

Russian chief of the general staff, Valery Gerasimov, said the order would affect over 65,000 troops, according to AFP. Gerasimov also said more than 180 planes and about 60 helicopters would be involved in the "full combat alert" drills.

It depends on what "in attendance" means. He may not be "in" the meeting, i.e., in the room, but "attending" remotely.

I'd like to point out that this meeting may already be over. Has anyone seen any kind of summary about it?

The Russian military says its officers have visited the site of a suspected poison gas attack in the suburbs of the Syrian capital and found no evidence to back up earlier reports.

Opposition activists and local rescuers said on Sunday that at least 40 people were killed in the poison gas attack on Saturday on the last remaining foothold for Syrian rebels in the eastern suburbs of Damascus.

The Russian military taskforce in Syria which operates in Damascus suburbs said it visited the hospital in Douma and talked to the staff and said they did not confirm reports of the assault.

The task force quoted a doctor and an ambulance driver who both said they have not received anyone with symptoms of chemical poisoning.

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says that Russia expects Turkey to bring the strategic northern Syrian town of Afrin, previously held by Syrian Kurdish forces, under the control of the Syrian government.

Turkey attacked Afrin in March to drive out the Kurdish militia, known as the YPG, which forms the backbone of the Syrian Democratic Forces, America's main partner in Syria.

Lavrov spoke to reporters on Monday.

He insisted that the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, had "never said that Turkey wants to occupy Afrin" and that Russia now expects Turkey to bring the area under Syrian government control.

Russia's foreign minister has called reports of a suspected poison gas attack in Syria a "provocation."

Syrian opposition activists and local rescuers said on Sunday that the suspected attack from the previous day against the last remaining foothold of the rebels in the eastern suburbs of Damascus killed at least 40 people.

Russia earlier managed to negotiate with the rebels an evacuation from that area.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday rejected the reports of the attack, calling it a "provocation." He said the Russian military visited the site of the suspected attack and found no traces of the chemicals.

The fact of the matter is that the Russian people are not the enemies of the American people. We don't hate them; they don't hate us. The common man just wants to live and let live. It's the evil, greedy governments and their "crisis actors" that play these stupid games and use the resulting fearmongering to whip up patriotic frenzies to fund "The Machine." Nothing more...nothing less.

THIS.

My understanding is that once Communism fell, the nation as a whole turned back to God. They are in MANY ways more socially and politically conservative (read: moral) now than MANY western nations, including the US.

Putin is doing what we'd want Trump to do in his place--his FIRST concern is the welfare of HIS OWN people and nation.

God help us all.

What are the crucial Russian national interests at stake in Syria?..one of many possible pipelines, national pride, strategic bases?
None of these are sufficient reasons to lose all or parts of Moscow, St Petersberg, Yekatrineberg.
And the US will not go the long mile to save a few camels and palm trees, New York, DC are worth much more that any possible gain in a war.
How about both Putin and Trump needing to look tough for their home crowd?
