If you enjoy this type of story, check out my book KILLSHOT. It can be bought as an eBook or paperback from all major book sellers. Here's the synopsis:

After a massive solar flare hits earth and destroys the power grid, electrical outages spread rapidly across the United States. In an effort to survive the chaos around them and save his family, Patrick Walker decides to bug out from their Mississippi Gulf Coast home to his grandfather's cabin in northern Arkansas.

The quest for survival begins in their own neighborhood when their friends turn against them and try to take their supplies. After a gun battle, their journey to Arkansas is filled with life-threatening hazards as the situation rapidly goes from bad to worse. Without electricity, there is no access to any of life's basic necessities. As each day passes, their plight becomes one in which it is every man for himself, kill or be killed.

Never mind, I reread your post.

Who is the author? There is more than one book with that title.

Just received my copies of One Second After and One Year After and am devouring the first one. Sounds like it’s going to get more depressing as it goes on, but such is life.

We do have some great authors here in our fiction section! Well worth the time to read!

Killshot is next on my list to order. I bought Deep Winter back when Tom first published it. Great read!!

Another good one by Forstchen is "Day of Wrath". Made me kinda mad when I read it (back in 2016), but still a very good read when considering the use of predicting human nature and it's reactions to amplify chaos.

I remember reading it "One Second After" and wondering why nobody ever heard of eating acorns. I know the hills in that area are covered with them.

The event happened in early spring. By the time fall rolled around there werent that many people left to pick up the acorns. They brought up foraging numerous times.
