MARANTHA!! Even so, come LORD JESUS!!!
Well, it's off outside to clean out the old chicken house!! I may have to paint it some after I scrub it down>>>>>>PUNKY ( Short for Punkin" cause she LOVES pumpkins!!) is getting close to time for her to deliver!!

She is some kind of goat??? Slightly smaller than a regular goat, but not a mini or dwarf. I THOUGHT my Nigerian Dwarf was too small to reach her!! APPARENTLY NOT!! She is so big you can see the kid(s) turn sideways in her belly!! But no udder development yet??!! As I recall from my Angoras from about 25 years ago, they don't get milk until about a week to three days before they drop the kid......

Odie is going to be SO PROUD!!
He is the Nigerian Dwarf that I bottle fed from about 1 week old!! He is still very very sweet and needs all kinds of cuddling and loving still.....he's NINE months old and still wants to be picked up all the time!!

Anyway, I guess I will have to separate him from the baby(ies??) and Punky...he probably would try to hurt them and I KNOW he won't like them getting any of HIS attention!! He is such an AWESOME little guy!

He is going to be a DADDY!! I'm SOOO PROUD of him!!
He looked like THIS when we got him!!

Babies yet??? I miss my goats so much but we're in an area that has meningeal worms and decided just to get out of goats for good. After having to do 6 weeks of treatments and my favorite doe being permanently damaged I didn't think it was fair to the goats. They went to live in a drier area at another farm...

FWIW, udder development is quite individual. First time mamas often don't show a lot of udder ( although conversely, our cows who turned out to be super milkers often began showing serious enlargement *months* before their due date. )

Watch for the other signs...enlargement of the vulva, mucous leakage, and the loosening of the ligaments around the tail head. Generally, when the teats fill with milk, right to the tips, birth is imminent ( within 24 hours)

I'm laughing at you thinking your buck is too small... where there's a will, there's a way! We once had an Ayrshire cow who stood 59" tall. She was bred AI to a registered Ayrshire bull. (Red and white cows) Hubby was stunned when she delivered a tiny BLACK bull calf. He was griping "how in hell did that happen?"... I was laughing so hard...

The culprit was our SIX MONTH old Dexter bull... who was 32" tall at the time!

Good luck with your new babies...

I had one goat who only bagged up one birth was imminent. She basically would come and lay down beside me wherever I was working or sitting and deliver her babies at my feet. As long as she could be near me she felt like she was safe I think. I have seen a big cow LAY DOWN to get bred by a young bull too small to reach her otherwise, and goats, believe me, where theres a will they will find a way.

Your doe may have multiples in there but watch her because it can also be just one big kid. If its one big kid you may need to help her by pulling it or bringing the head to point forward. You should see a bubble of fluid first and will prob see the front hooves in that. If you see the BOTTOM of the hooves the baby is upside down or back feet first. It should come out with you seeing the tops of the hooves and its nose. If feet but no nose, the head is out of position. If you have to put your hand in there to help, follow up with a shot of antibiotic as soon as she delivers.

I never separate my males from the babies. But i always get mild mannered males. Pygmies mature faster than other breeds. Which means all female kids need to be hooked far away from any un castrated male goats after the age of 4 weeks.

She may slime before delivery but some don't. Her vulva will look and feel very soft and may even bounce as she walks. If she's a princess, lol, she may bawl for you when labor starts. Once she starts pushing it should go pretty quickly. Watch for those feet and nose and if she doesn't progress don't be afraid to help. Can't wait to hear the news

YIPPEEEE!!!
She is baaaaaing constantly and her udders are HUGE>>>>>all within just a few days!! Maybe a week! I can't get any milk out of the teats so I figure she still has about 2-3 days....it is gonna be very cold this weekend>>>>they ALWAYS kid when the weather is it's worst!! When I had my Angoras I had TWENTY deliveries in ONE night when it was the first snow of the year and was about 2 and a half feet in just a couple of hours!!

Well.

Now I don't know WHAT to think!!

She escaped from the pen yesterday and was in the backyard playing with our dog who is half Great Pyrenees and half German Shepard>>>they were buddies alot when she was younger>>>>she was rearing up on her hid legs and "play butting" the dog!! Not really butting her but pretending she was going to. Frosty was play bowing with her and dodging and then jumping back at her>>>>>she was NOT acting like she was close to time to kid>>>AT ALL!!!

But her udder IS really BIG!! Never been even developed before>>>>SO, I just DON'T know anymore.

I never saw one act that way when they were very close to birthing before>>>>>but then I had Angoras before and they are much more fragile as far as body mass>>>

Anybody ever seen one act this way when they are close to birthing?? She is not a mini or Dwarf, but she's smaller than a regular size goat too, probably some kind of cross.

Not playful, necessarily, but I did have one jump through a barn window when we tried to put her in a birthing stall apart from her buddies. She gave birth a few hours later. Sassy is short and squat to begin with, and I wouldn't have dreamed she could jump like that, especially when she was waddling around with her baby bump.

Finally! LOL!

Do you now have a bit more of an idea of what to look for, now that she's had them?

For sure, it's not always easy. The dairy cows were probably the easiest species to figure out, and they fooled us more times than I can remember. Beef cattle are much tougher, mostly because they "thicker", and carry more weight, especially around the tailhead. Also, their calves are smaller, and so aren't as easy to "bump" (push in from the side of the mother's belly to see if the calf has moved up into the pelvis- a fairly reliable sign of imminent- within 12 hours- birth) as the dairy cows were.

My son called me the other night to see if there was anything he needed to do for his ewe... he'd checked her before work, decided she wasn't very close to lambing, so left the door to the outside open. He came back around 5 pm to find mama and new baby standing outside in 2 feet of snow, with another 6" on top of them! She apparently had the lamb indoors, then moved him outside as soon as he could stand, and he was steady enough he must have been born about 30 seconds after DS left for work!

It could have been worse... I got a call a couple months ago from his 4 months pregnant wife, who had been chasing around a young sow and her two baby piglets in a foot of mud and freezing rain for a couple hours... they hadn't even realized the hog was pregnant. Although DS HAD remarked a couple days before that the sow was beginning to resemble DDIL, in that they had the same "waist". Yes, he's still alive. No, I have no clue why!

As far as attaching the pics, did you click on "submit thread" BELOW "Manage Attachment" screen, or the one for the original screen above it? IIRC, if you don't use the one below the attachment screen, they won't show up.

If you want, send me the pics via e-mail, and I'll post them.
