Harvest Of Lion’s Mane and Garlics….and taters

North to the Future
I was just reading about canning spuds on another thread and thought I’d toss in my two pence about my ‘harvest’ this benighted summer.

May 5 - huge fire here and major loss
May 7 - fly south for over three months to help family….but…

As I threw my suitcase into the car for the ride to the airport to head south, I managed to tuck a few Cal Whites and some Carolina reds into where I usually grow a lot more things. I’d already planted garlic last fall so had hopes there’d be something when I returned.

FF summer 2022 and my absolute neglect of my gardens due to my long absence. Yet…

I am delighted that I have pulled about 70 beautiful garlic bulbs…most are curing now to braid and store…and the ones without a good outer covering I’ve put the cloves into olive oil or cooked up with a bunch of gorgeous and delicious wild lions mane mushrooms that I find daily. Next year I hope for morels in the burned areas!

Spuds do very well here…I only had a few I’d planted in May but got 22# of whites and just under 45# of the reds. I do think I‘ll have to can them, cuz like zucchini…everyone has enough they don’t want your gift, lo!

I am enjoying planning now for next year, when I can grow all the veg and flowers my heart loves. I have two spaghetti squash I’ve saved since last September. I’ll save seeds from one and cook the other - with my fresh garlic and mushrooms.
