Obama calls on his Internet campaign army to march again

WASHINGTON — President-elect Barack Obama's 3 million campaign volunteers got re-enlistment notices this week.

Campaign manager David Plouffe, in a mass e-mail sent Wednesday to former workers, asked how much time they can spare for four missions integral to Obama's effort to transform his victory into a broader political movement.

The volunteers' options are, Plouffe wrote:

  • Campaign for progressive state and local candidates

  • Undertake grassroots local efforts to advance Obama's agenda

  • Train others in Obama's organizing techniques

  • Focus on local political issues.
"Obama's building a political machine," said Stephen Hess, a presidential scholar at the Brookings Institution, a center-left Washington research group.

"These people have just opened up a new world for politics," added Hess, the author of "What Do We Do Now?: A Workbook for the President-Elect."

Pre-Internet presidents, he said, lacked the ability to communicate in real time with masses of their volunteers. In addition, the social networks such as MySpace and Facebook that link Obama's army together didn't exist.

The net effect was that pre-Obama political machines grew out of local politics and remained rooted there. Statewide or presidential candidates relied largely on local leaders' support.

Not so Obama, who, at least for now, has the allegiance of thousands of volunteers in most if not all congressional districts.

I understand that anyone who signs up will recieve a freshly starched brown shirt and vibrant red armband to complete the ensemble.

I'm on those e-lists and what we are doing is nothing that you would disapprove of and CERTAINLY not secret.

We hosted a party for Move On last week. You can offer your home to other supporters and listen to a webcast together. Last week we discussed possibilities for community service and to write reps with support for Barack's administrative agenda.

It's a great way to find out ways to help in your community, and to meet like-minded people.

Sounds like an out-reach program for the mentally challenged. And it's not to met "like minded" people, it's to meet left minded people.

Yes, it IS a program for the mentally challenged.... since we're the only ones with brains enough to take on great challenges. You will thank us in a couple of years. (Don't worry, Conrad....I'll only ask you to kiss my FOOT)

My question is, when will they re-enact The Night of the Long Knives?

It takes a real brainwashed person to think that anything meaningful can be done at the grassroots level to fix the multi-trillion dollar mess that the corpacracy has gotten us into. A bunch of people sitting around, getting indoctrinated and singing Koombaya isn't going to do a freakin thing to help, in fact it is a detriment to our country to have so many people not facing the reality of the situation and instead putting their efforts into communistic organizing groups to force their agenda's down the throats of the rest of the country "for our own good."

Singing "Khumbaya" is as useful as praying, folks....and the song actually IS a prayer, by the way. It means "Come by here, Lord."

We care about our communities and what is happening in them. All of us volunteer in one way or another, and that's vital at a time when homelessness is increasing. No, maybe one person can't fix the economy, but one person CAN make a difference in some way.

I don't need some false messiah to influence me to work as a volunteer for my community, I've been doing that for years regardless of who the president is. The poor have always been with us, the needs of others have always been there, I don't need Obama indoctrination to tell me that.

Geez, what a bunch of self-righteous horse hockey Obama supporters seem to be full of, as if they are the first to think of volunteering and grassroots activism, makes me want to puke. :kk1:

Yay we got connections!!! How exciting it must be for you to actually be on the ground floor of Obama's budding cyber-troops!!!

And, even though it's no secret, maybe you can still kindly give us a heads-up and let us know when ya'all switch from the keyboard to those brown shirts and red armbands OK? You know, so we can recognize your cohorts in my state when they move from the "spread the wealth" agenda and on into our churches because we don't agree with abortions or gay marriages!

Those minions will be useful in identifying the non-compliant. The holier than thou attitudes of the minions just put them in snitch heaven.

Dennis, that's a good comment about the block-by-block organization of Chicago politics. At street level it's just another protection racket.

We haven't gotten to the churches yet. Right now our first step is to get Dr Pepper introduced into all public fountains, declare wrinkles sexually desirable, get all the Food Police arrested and into penal colonies, and order George Lucas to make more "Star Wars" movies.

Dang! I FORGOT about the food police! Of course you know there’ll be dissention within the “troops” when the anti-sugar crowd see you put Dr. Pepper for ALL!! But….I see through your agenda of false promises. IF George Lucas ever makes a Star Wars movie again I don’t see how in the world the tax paying, soon to be penniless populace in the penal colonies are going to afford to see ANY movie, no less “Star Wars - The Empire Celebrates Obama!” (Not that they would want to anyway.)

But we're into socialism, see. The movies will have to air on free tv, and everybody will get an equal share of popcorn.

And fruit loop will be right there volunteering to watch over the non-believers and reporting them to the faithful because the only way socialism can even appear to be working is by the use of force. And fruit loop is so full of hate she will have a thousand reasons why she should turn all of us in.

Do you want the studded leather whip, or should I have an Iron Maiden constructed just for you, Conrad?

Obama's values are closer to Kennedy's. He wants to inspire youth to give back to their country in the form of public service or the peace corps.

I'm reminded of Kennedy and MLK when I read Barack Obama's writings.

Such arrogance does not become you. And you will regret typing that. :(

Searcher, it's not arrogance, they REALLY BELIEVE THAT. Kinda like a fundamentalist Christian but 1,000 times more dangerous because they will expend whoever they need to expend to get their job done.

But hey, the higher you put yourself, the farther the fall, right???
