Pyongyang has accused Seoul of flying Israeli-built surveillance drones within DPRK borders, a move South Korea has denied.

The People's Democratic Republic of North Korea (DPRK), through its state-run media arm KCNA, accused South Korea of invading Pyongyang airspace through the use of surveillance drones.

Beijing Urges Pyongyang to Stick to Denuclearization Policy

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) claimed that an Israeli-built South Korean HERON unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) violated Pyongyang airspace four times during an eleven-hour period, describing the alleged overstep as a "grave military provocation," according to Yonhap.

Seoul responded that KCNA's Saturday accusations were "untrue," adding that the HERON UAV, one of three purchased from Israel at approximately $10 million apiece, remained within South Korean borders and was involved in a "normal" operation that was deployed "as planned."

KCNA accusations detailed that the South Korean HERON entered the DPRK western border area a total of four times between 7:46 a.m. and 8:40 p.m. on Friday, cited by Yonhap.

The DPRK alleged that the violation took place as four US Global Hawk spy drones and some US 100 military personnel arrived in Japan's Yokota Air Base on what Pyongyang suggested was a pretext of avoiding inclement weather in the region.

The KCNA allegations included the warning that military provocations would be met with a "merciless retaliatory response."

Increased ballistic missile testing by Pyongyang has put the region on edge, as the US and its allies, alongside China and Russia, have urged the DPRK to end its continuing weapons development.

North Korea leader Kim guides test of new anti-aircraft weapon

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has supervised the test of a new anti-aircraft weapon system and ordered its mass production and deployment throughout the country, the state news agency reported on Sunday, after weeks of defiant ballistic missile tests.

The North's KCNA news agency did not report the exact nature of the weapon or the time of the test but said it was organized by the Academy of National Defence Science, a blacklisted agency that is believed to be developing missiles and nuclear weapons.

The North has been pushing to develop a wide range of weapon systems since early last year at an unprecedented pace including a long-range missile capable of striking the mainland United States and has in recent weeks tested its intermediate-range ballistic missile, making some technical advances.

The reclusive state rejects U.N. and unilateral sanctions by other states against its weapons program as an infringement of its right to self defense and says the program is necessary to counter U.S. aggression.

It last conducted a ballistic missile test a week ago.

The United States denies any intention to attack the North.

"Kim Jong Un ... watched the test of a new type of anti-aircraft guided weapon system organized by the Academy of National Defence Science," KCNA said on Sunday.

"This weapon system, whose operation capability has been thoroughly verified, should be mass-produced to deploy all over the country ... so as to completely spoil the enemy's wild dream to command the air, boasting of air supremacy and weapon almighty," it said.

KCNA said Kim was accompanied by his military aides and listed the three men believed to be the top officials in the country's rapidly accelerating missile program.

They are Ri Pyong Chol, a former top air force general; Kim Jong Sik, a veteran rocket scientist; and Jang Chang Ha, the head of the Academy of National Defence Science, a weapons development and procurement center.

North Korea said on Monday it had successfully tested what it called an intermediate-range ballistic missile that met all technical requirements and could now be mass-produced, although outside officials and experts questioned the extent of its progress.

On Tuesday, the head of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency said that if left unchecked, North Korea is on an "inevitable" path to obtaining a nuclear-armed missile capable of striking the United States.

Appearing at a Senate hearing, Defense Intelligence Agency Director Vincent Stewart declined to offer a time estimate but Western experts believe the North still needed several years to develop such a weapon.

THAAD Deployment Will Incur Punishment by Nation: NPCK Spokesman

Date: 27/05/2017 | Source: KCNA.kp (En) | Read original version at source
Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the National Peace Committee of Korea (NPCK) issued a statement Saturday over the fact that the south Korean ruling quarters take irresolute attitude toward the issue of THAAD deployment.

Noting that the struggle of people from all walks of life demanding the cancellation of THAAD deployment is now getting intensified in south Korea, the statement said:

However, the "Liberal Korea Party" and other conservative groups and political philistines assert that the withdrawal of THAAD may undermine the south Korea-U.S. alliance and cause "division of public opinion", and the new south Korean authorities are taking an ambivalent approach to the public demand for the withdrawal of THAAD under such pretexts as "prudent solution" and "procedures of approval by the National Assembly".

To deploy THAAD or to withdraw it would serve as a cornerstone discerning the acts of sycophancy toward outsiders from the stand of prioritizing the nation, and there should be no compromise here, the statement said, clarifying the following principled stand:

1. THAAD deployment is a traitorous act of leaving the land of south Korea as the eternal advanced military base for the U.S. realization of strategy for world domination.

The south Korean authorities have to make its stand clear, well aware that the deployment is a senseless and traitorous act of drawing water to the U.S. mill for a nuclear war and providing it with a foothold for aggression.

2. The deployment is a thrice-cursed act of treachery that would reduce the Korean peninsula into a theatre for nuclear war of big powers and invite unprecedentedly terrible disaster.

If the south Korean authorities approves the deployment to toe the U.S. line, it will be recorded as a treachery putting the "Ulsa (1905) five traitors" into the shade.

The south Korean authorities have to make a bold decision of withdrawing THAAD without delay, mindful that the nation is seriously watching them.

3. The deployment constitutes a crime against the nation as it is aimed to remove the nuclear sword of justice that would guarantee the dignity, security and eternal prosperity of the nation, with the help of aggressors.

The south Korean authorities should bear deep in mind the fact that the act of the conservative group to get rid of the nuclear treasured sword of justice by introducing THAAD is just a foolish and traitorous deed.

THAAD deployment is one of the worst evils done by the Park Geun Hye group and its withdrawal is a strong demand of the candlelight demonstrators and the irreversible trend of the times.

Anyone who allows the U.S. THAAD deployment for aggression would be forsaken and sternly punished by the nation just like the group of conservatives. -0-

2017/05/29 06:29

SEOUL, May 29 (Yonhap) -- North Korea fired what appears to be a ballistic missile early Monday, South Korea's military said.

The unidentified missile was fired from near the North Korean coastal city of Wonsan, Seoul's Joint Chief of Staff (JCS) said. The missile flew in a easterly direction, sources said.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in ordered officials to hold a meeting of national security council at 7:30 a.m.

North Korea launches projectile from near Wonsan – JCS
Launch is ninth missile test of the year

Chad O'Carroll and Dagyum Ji
May 28th, 2017

North Korea launched an unidentified projectile towards the Sea of Japan (East Sea) from near Wonsan, Ganwgwon Province, early on Monday morning, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.

The missile test follows a period of almost weekly testing since April 16, when the North unsuccessfully test-fired a ballistic missile a day after Pyongyang’s ‘Day of the Sun’ parade.

South Korea’s President was immediately notified about the situation and ordered to convene a standing committee of the National Security Council (NSC) at 0730 KST, the JCS said on Monday.

Overall, Sunday’s launch is the North’s ninth this year and follows the test-firing of a new surface-to-air missile defense system over the weekend, state media outlet the Rodong Sinmun indicated.

On April 16, the DPRK attempted to launch a missile though the test ended in failure. The failed launch took place near Sinpo, on the DPRK’s east coast, the day after the 105th Day of the Sun military parade in Pyongyang.

On April 5, North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan (known as the East Sea in Korea) also from near Sinpo.

Sinpo, located just northeast of the city of Hamhung is the location of one of North Korea’s key submarine bases, from which North Korea has previously tested Submarine Launched Ballistic Missiles (SLBM).

North Korea tests 9th missile of 2017, South Korea's military confirms
Javier E. David | @TeflonGeek
Sunday, 28 May 2017 | 5:53 PM ETCNBC.com

North Korea fired a new missile, according to South Korea's military, its 9th this year and the latest act of provocation by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the face of widespread international pressure.

Yonhap News, which was the first to report the test, said the country fired off what appeared to be a ballistic missile near the North Korean coast early Monday local time. The test comes as Kim has reportedly supervised test runs of new anti-aircraft weapons, and continues to heighten tensions on the Peninsula.

"North Korea launched an unidentified projectile from a site in the vicinity of Wonsan in Gangwon Province at dawn today," a statement by South Korea's military confirmed. The launch was reported to newly-elected president, Moon Jae-in, who backs a sunshine policy with North Korea. Moon ordered a national security meeting to convene at 730 am local time, the statement added.

North Korea — which has openly defied 3 U.S. presidents while stymieing efforts to resolve the crisis multilaterally— appears to be testing the resolve of the United States. Officials in recent days have stated unequivocally that the "strategic patience" cultivated with North Korea was drawing to a close, but the country has conducted at least eight missile tests this year.

President Donald Trump, just returning from his first official visit overseas, has warned that military action against North Korea was on the table, regardless of the risks. Trump told CBS in a recent interview that 'we'll see' if an armed confrontation was needed to deter Kim's ambitions, but expressed optimism that pressure from China could be brought to bear on the nation.

In an interview on Sunday with CBS's "Face the Nation," Defense Secretary James Mattis cautioned that a conflict with the hermetic Communist nation "would be probably the worst kind of fighting in most people's lifetimes," and could be "catastrophic" if not resolved diplomatically.
