Yesterday I watched a youtube video that showed how to use a brake bleeder, and I was impressed.

I've had a lot of problems with lids not staying vacuum sealed, and the lady in the video had the same problem, using the foodsaver. So I ordered one. I'll comment when it comes in and I've used it. I've had numerous issues sealing regular mouth jars, fortunately I have a canister I can put the most size jars in to seal it, but some just do not stay sealed.

They have flaws you can't see. If they don't stay sealed, then there are cracks, chips or something that just doesn't allow for a proper seal.

a problem that used to exist was with the sealing material on the lids - needed to be hot and it didn't hurt if the jar was also hot ...

I say "used to exist" because the new lid material is supposed to be more pliable and the heat isn't needed anymore ...

there's articles about the change if I can find one ...

I have a couple of vac sealers that I usually use with the jar attachment but I also have a hand brake bleeder that I have also used. Takes a lot of hand pumping with that.

Try the automotive tool suppliers and what your asking for is a hand held hand operated vacuum break bleeder and with the right tubing you can vacuum seal canning jars just buy the food saver canning jar attachment and hook it to it and have at it and yes it works I know have one of these gems. Sears may have them and may of the tool stores can get them and Snapon tools and Matco tools but you will pay big bucks for anything from that last two I listed.

my brake bleeder came and it worked great, for a little while and then nothing. I guess it broke, DH tried it too and he could get suction but not on a jar.

So what I'm doing for now is if I can't get a lid to stay I'm putting a 100 cc o2 in the quart jar and its sealing that way. I do have many things that need to be vacuum sealed.

Its the regular mouth jars (which I have a huge supply of) that I have the most trouble sealing, no matter what I do, warm the seal and I just now remember that putting two lids on has helped in the past.

also have the break bleeder and have used it to test. It works. If you were doing a lot of canning it would wear your hand out though LOL. I only use it to dry can. The pressure canner is used for the rest.

unfortunately it stopped working, even DH couldn't get it to work so I returned it. I was only wanting to use if for dry canning.

I am really thrilled with my Foodsaver Handheld Vacuum Sealer....just got it yesterday, charged it for 24 hours, then sealed a bunch of hamburger that I scored this week into small packs, with the bags that work with it. $13 for 18 bags - these are Canadian prices so would be much less in US$...... and bags can be reusable when cleaned depending on what you put in them of course. You get 300 sealings from one charge it says in the instructions (which I did read LOL)

Also found a place in my city to order the jar topper sealers and there are hints on youtube for good sealing. This little Handheld works with them too, so it sure saves a lot of money and space, especially when I don't do a lot. I like the sealer bags as you can unzip them (they have a zipper) and then reseal them after removing what you want, rather than cutting the bag and redoing it under a big machine. I do dehydrating and this should help make sure I don't waste food with a bad seal on the jar......in fact I probably will use the bags for my of the dehydrated food.

Also sealed some bakery items that tend to dry out in freezer in original packaging (muffins, squares), and also save a lot of room in the freezer.

Going to do some peanuts which go off quickly, trail mix, and other stuff I haven't thought of yet.....maybe marshmallows.

Having fun and am not bored.

Sounds like something I'd like to have but the prices now are out of sight up to $100, I'll wait til all this is over, my foodsaver is working just fine.
