CORONA News from the Troke Covid front.

On TB every waking moment
You might remember over a year ago, my younger 88 yr old brother came down with the original Covid it looks like, with no vaccination.

Instant double pneumonia. Doc thought he was a goner. Well he didn't go but did suck on O2 for several months.

DIL reports town has had 15"+ of snow and Brother is out snowblowing neighbors driveways so physically he seems OK. Unfortunately he has no taste back, deadly for a person who savored their food. Mine is not back either which pretty well eliminates looking forward to eating.

DIL had vaccinations. She came down with the sniffles. Proves Covid vaccines don't protect against sniffles.

It took me over a year to a year and a half, to get my taste and smell back after covid.

Glad to hear you’re all doing ok!

I didn't lose taste and smell. However, I could not stand the taste of salt even the minute amount of salt in yogurt. My emergency stash of canned soups and crackers were way too salty for me to eat so I lost 10# in less than a week. It lasted about 10 days then slowly I could tolerate it again. I could taste but didn't feel up to cooking for most of 10 days. A lesson learned is to be sure to keep a supply of homemade soups in the freezer.

My taste buds were goofed up for a few days this last time.

Everything had an odd taste.

Water had a horrible taste.

Quercetin, NAC, and Zinc helped bring it back.

At you and your brother’s age, you’re fortunate to still be sucking air.

Not trying to be snarky, but I’ve learned well in the past couple years how one’s body can deteriorate without warning.
My father's sister (Oddly enough my aunt) made it to 103. Three grand cousins made it to 98 or so. So the genes are there. Unfortunately my father died at 37 and he had some siblings died younger.

Roll of the dice.

More dice. All of my cousins on the Troke side died in various stages of dementia or Alzheimers. They all died younger than I am now except for one. So if my posts start sounding like Joe Biden, you will know.

On my mother's side, many over 90, no dementia. So maybe.........

Greetings from near tropical NYC!
Covid enters the body in the nose and throat and goes into the ACE2 cells there and replicates in them, so it kills those cells as it uses them as hosts for its viral replication. These cells also provide your sense of smell and, therefore, taste. If Covid is keeping those cells busy as replication hosts, their function as smellers is probably already degraded.

The early treatment Hydroxychloroquine works by stripping off a fat layer from those ACE2 cells so zinc (your body's existing zinc level or you can supplement it) can enter, and zinc inside the cell stops the replication and kills off the Covid. This process also seems to increase the function of those ACE2 cells. I've noticed a somewhat unpleasant increase in taste and smell when I take such a treatment. I can smell our hard water, when normally I cannot.

So the first and, preferably, also final act of Covid involves the ACE2 cells. But if you let it replicate there, it can go down to the lungs and then new problems start.

If Covid has done a number on your ACE2 cells, you would have to grow new ones. Very old people probably grow them back much slower. You might see if astragalus helps you regrow the cells faster.

My cousin has often said she supposed she'd live to 100 like grandma and have dementia like grandpa at 70. As was said roll of the dice.

This is a video about a young woman, her sister, mother and, I think aunt, that all lost their sense of taste and smell. They found out about a certain procedure that restored it.
Run time is 15:38.
I’m on a tablet but thought this was important enough to try and share.
