Get some Bt and spray. Deadly to caterpillars, harmless to humans and pets. Can spray up to the minute of harvest (but I always try to spray 24-48 hours before, so the caterpillars are dead.)

Thank you! That will make life easier.

I plan to bring these inside so I NOT into the bugs in the house thing. Lol. I attempt to get the bugs off prior to that, but you know how that is.

LOL! I've still got multiple quart jars of peppercorns, stored with O2 absorbers in our cool basement. They are indistinguishable from fresh when ground... and yes, opening the jar for the first time will clear your sinuses!

About how old are they?

When I read online, everyone seems to say they only last a year or too, but that seems short based on my experience.

With so many clothing stores going tit's up due to the lock downs this last half year and still going, many items for this Fall and Winter will be hard to find soon.

I have also been thinking that we'll be having a hard winter this coming season, ever since this last Spring, it's been on my mind.

And with the holidays coming up, I found an awesome price on the Columbia women's Benton Springs Full Zip Fleece Jacket.

I Love these jackets, they're warm, light weight and keep the wind out.

They are also what Columbia uses as a liner in some of their winter jackets.

So being worried for my young niece not having some good jackets for those biting winds where she lives, I actually bought 5 of these in different colors because the price was so good!

Sometimes the price will go up a few dollars but always goes back down again and I was able to buy these for $31.02 each back at the end of August.

So, keep checking the price daily, as it will go up and down.

Still, the price is such a deal compared to what you'll see at the stores, that I thought I'd let you all know about these jackets.

Comfortable, pretty colors and even if you're an extra large or in the Plus size range, they still look quite pretty.

So if any of you reading this are wondering what to buy someone for Christmas or any other holiday, you may want to check on these!

I live way up in the mountains and sometimes it's hard to go down in to town to try things on so I go to Ebay, find the clothing I like and see how the sizes measure.

For example, I Love the Johnny Was brand knit tops but this company will have inconsistent fits for the same size.

So I go to Ebay, look the top up, go into the seller's description of the top and they will most of the time, describe the bust size/fit as measured from underarm to underarm with the garment laid out flat.

Knowing this, I can tell which size will truly fit me.

I hope I'm making sense here.

Anyway, wanted to post this once I was all done ordering what I needed because once it gets on Main, everyone will read and start ordering! Lol!

A nice way to give someone a gift that they can actually use and will use. V

Edited to add... I went to Ebay and I see they're being sold at a really low price too.

We're in KY. We grocery shopped yesterday. DH and I were both pretty stunned at the empty shelves. Every aisle had some empty shelves on it. Only the meat Dept was well stocked. The produce Dept was the worst. Mostly empty and the produce they had looked like it needed thrown out. This is just a small hometown grocery store but still, we haven't seen it look that way since March.

Sept 2nd, I ordered wide mouth and regular mouth canning lids from this site:

The lids were delivered today, and there have been no unauthorized charges to my bank acc't. The lids are not branded, and the sealing compound is white - not the red we're used to. I haven't used any of them yet, so can't vouch for their integrity.

Thank you! My husband likes the house about 10 degrees hotter in the summer than I do (sigh) and 10 degrees colder than I do in the winter. My warmest sweatshirts are all black, and it depresses me to wear all black all winter; I love colors. At this price, I ordered 3 in vibrant colors to wear in the winter inside the house.

Local news in the Ozarks last night, says we got so much chicken and beef in this area so prices are coming down...
been buying 7-9 lb pork loins for about 12.00 lately and canning those up, so guess it's time to move on the chicken and beef.

Pork has always been cheap in our area. Chicken is, too. It's the beef that sets us back money wise when buying it.

Huge livestock feed shortage at store I've used for over twenty years. I will not name location.

It may be the beginning of rotating shipments, like toilet paper. The staff does not know when more feed is coming.

A brand of feed that was available is now packaged significantly smaller.
I've noticed the smaller amounts, larger price in the feed sacks too. Ive been getting double what I usually get. I'm terrified I won't be able to feed my chickens at some point. Have been getting 1 Xtra scratch grain too every month. I keep it in the back room now so it's not too hot if it was in the coop. Would get stale if it was in the heat. Next week, I'm hoping to get a package of Ivermection cattle pour on, not sure if that would be something that was gonna be out.

I was sent an email that I'm on the list when they do come in but it will probably be around Nov or Dec. I'm guessing. I'm pretty sure the country will be going to hell in a hand basket by then and it won't matter. Just thought Lord, if I'm to have these, then they'll get here, if not, thank you for providing other ways to preserve your food.
I have had good luck with reused canning lids. I boil them 1st, then keep them in a warm oven on something very clean, top side down. You must keep the jars with those reused lids away from those you used new one. They will always be suspect, until you know they are ok when you open them, the air pop will tell you. If it doesn't pop, you know it's a bad seal. I only use the reused ones for jelly.

I ordered some canned fruit and soup online. Most of the cans in one order were dented. Then I noticed they weren't the old tin - but likely aluminum. I guess you can't get tin any more.

I also noticed that containers are much smaller than they used to be - jars, cans, boxes etc.

Wouldn’t want your cattle to get CoVid.

Ivermectin pour on is easily absorbed thru the skin. I use it for the chickens for worms and buggies. I also want some more as a thing for if I catch the covid. When I dose the chickens I dose with a small squeeze applicator, 6 drops for a big girl, smaller amounts for smaller chickens.
It's also said to be effective against covid..... I always get the stuff all over me when I'm dosing the girls so I know I tolerate it well.

If it's TS, it's because they're idiots. About 3 years ago, they stopped carrying calf starter. Their store brand is just as good as Calf Manna, which costs 2 1/2 times as much. I asked the lady to order me some, she wrote it down and told me it would be in next week. I start my calves on it at 2 weeks because God forbid, if something happens to a Mama cow, I can keep them alive on that and milk replacement. Went to pick it up on the day that it was supposed to be there, and "We don't do special orders anymore. You'll have to buy Calf Manna." Umm, No I won't...
The local store, which used to be for farmers, has become a Yuppie "pretend store" and they have 4 aisles of stuff for chickens... No cow stuff at all and very few horse items.
All the livestock folks took their business to the local feed store, where they cheerfully load your vehicle for you.

An observation regarding Campbell's chunky soups:

Some have not been available for months (sausage rigatoni, for example).

The ones that are still available all seem to have expiration dates no later than May or June 22. These are the same expiration dates of the cans I bought 6 months back.

My guess is that Campbell's recent production runs are going to underground government facilities, and all we've been seeing in the private sector is what's left of the earlier production.

Central Ohio aldi yesterday, saw multiple holes in the inventory for the first time since March. Was a bit concerning, to say the least.

For a while the local stores where I shop would be out of one or two items here or there, but it's gone up a notch now. Maybe I just picked a bad day to shop, we'll see what next week has in store (pun intended)

I've had good luck re-using lids as well. But like you, I've only used them for jelly, pickles, and some experimental "dry canning" of things like rice and beans. Heck I even re-used some salsa and pasta sauce jars/lids (the original lids that came on those jars) for the dry canning experiment. And all but 1 jar failed to seal. But it was just dry rice in a jar, so it's still good. I wouldn't trust those non-traditional jars for anything that requires pressure canning though.

Maybe once or twice a month, I like a a fizz drink. That has been a Fresca since I was a kid. Now, no Fresca seems to be getting canned up.

It isn't a big deal, but we've looked for months to no avail. People are grumping about it online too.

On a plus side though, Nestea instant is back and available online (for those who remember my search for it a year ago when they discontinued it. )

This is what I've been wondering for months. Is stock being diverted to govt stockpiles?

Last night my son’s Scout troop was doing a virtual first aid activity. They were each supposed to have various supplies and a family member to play “victim” so earlier in the day we gathered-up all of the items (bandanas, cardboard for a splint, etc) but our primary first aid kit was missing rolled cotton bandages. As a Scouting family, the “home” kit often gets cannibalized to supplement the car, BOBs, and personal first aid kits. I remembered that we had just built another kit with my daughter a couple months ago and realized we hadn’t replaced the items. Ran to Walmart to get what we needed. The first aid section had adhesive bandaids and Neosporin, a few packaged first aid kits, but not much else. There were huge holes. I did get the last (dented but unopened) box of rolled cotton bandages. And some more bandaids. But it was very sparse-looking.

I have had great luck finding first aid supplies at yard/estate sales for pennies on the dollar.!

Not sure if Fresca is made by Pepsi, but I was told that Pepsi is only make like the top 3 flavors as aluminum cans are scarce, and that is also why other canned products are scarce is that tin cans are hard to come by. Also for every dozen trucks of food the store orders they get only 3-5 loads in... I did notice that our Kroger's here in Columbus have been having a lot of the BLUE out of stock labels up.

Few items that seem to be harder to find right now ... stopped by the local HEB and things like name brand peanut butter (Jiff and Peter Pan) are gone, canned stewed tomato's are hard to find (plenty of sauce), canned fruits like pears or name brand peaches (lots of pineapple and mandarins), and mac and cheese cups.

Not sure if Fresca is made by Pepsi, but

Made by Coke. If there is an aluminum can shortage though, I'm sure that it is effecting all the major companies....

Edited to add: just saw this article in the Chicago Sun Times from last month about a Fresca shortage due to cans....

Whole spices last longer than ground spices. Whole peppercorns can last for years if keep in a cool, dry and dark place even without an oxygen absorber. Many ground spices lose their flavor after a year or two. I've found dried leafy spices like cilantro, dill, parsley and basil seem to deteriorate the fastest.

Mid Atlantic shopping trip this AM. Had to go to the PO to pick up a package since my carrier refuses to deliver anything that won't fit in the mailbox. What really annoyed me was that this was a SMALL item that should have been put in a small box. The seller will be hearing from me.
So I went to the WM in the town the PO is in. I never go there because it is too far away. 4th place I've been to looking for canned pumpkin and I thought they didn't have any either. Very small baking display in the center of the store had maybe a half dozen cans. $2.08 for 15 oz. Last year that size was .49. I caved and bought 2 cans, which means it will probably show up at my regular store for half that in the next month.
The store was less than half full, the canned meat and vegetable section wouldn't have filled up a whole aisle if they'd combined them. Canned cat food was really sparse, I had to hunt to find my spoiled brats preferred flavors.
They had a full aisle of cookies, but most of them were things I'd never heard of. and they were EXPENSIVE!
I've never seen WM brand ginger ale in mini cans before, but they had them, so I got some to add to dh's stash.
The cleaning products aisle was pretty much wiped out, they had plenty of bleach, but that was all.
Plenty of TP and PT...
This store is laid out stupidly and I had walked half way around it twice and couldn't find the HBA section, so I gave up. I wanted some more alcohol but I was too tired to keep walking and I figured they probably didn't have it anyway.
I know most of the general public is too stupid to realize the store is more than half empty, but WM really should just combine their shelves and rent out more of the store. They already have a Subway, a nail salon, and a bank in the front.
