FOOD New rules in California effective January 1, 2022 may end availability of almost all pork products in California

In 2018, California voters passed an initiative that requires more space for egg-laying chickens, veal calves, and for breeding pigs. The 2018 initiative goes into effect on January 1, 2022. The egg and veal industry can meet the standards, but only about 4% of pig farms can or will comply due to vastly increased overhead. California consumes about 15% of the nation's pork products. This may end up reducing prices elsewhere in the country, or simply cutting the supply to California.

I am SO effing sick of hearing about California's latest episode of chronic dysfunction. If and when "The Big One" dumps CA into the ocean, the rest of the US will be immeasurably better off!

Some people worry about the Chinese invading California. If that ever happens, I give it six months before they're begging us to take it back ;-)

Doc, some of us live in the far northern rural part of this dysfunctional state and don’t identify as “Californian”. I live on inherited land that goes back to my great grandfather. My family was here before it got stupid and we aim to keep it civilized. LA and the Bay Area are 180 degrees opposite of us... we are conservative Americans who just want to take care of our families and communities.

We won’t fall in to the ocean during a quake but that may trigger one of our volcanoes so don’t wish ill upon us!

Neither here nor there.
Just heard from a California refugee that they are now after moving to Oklahoma on the hook for having to continue to pay Ca. state income taxes on their retirement benefits for at least a decade.

And now no bacon! Ha!

Orion Commander will have to chime in, however, I think this was taken to the Supreme Court and they ruled ruled that the state couldn’t do this. In that particular case the state was Iowan and 5he resident had moved to Arizona.

California is the native land of the American Dumbass people. You can identify them by their snarky attitudes looking down on others while they fail basic common sense and generally have no good ideas. It's best to isolate them from the rest of the population as their inherent stupidity seems to be infectious. It is generally believed that they will eradicate themselves if left alone long enough as they seem to be too stupid to feed themselves and insist on eating like their cousins, the sheep.

If you run into one in the wild, talk baby talk to it so they can understand but do NOT try to make sense of what they say and do, it will only infect your brains. Just put them in the closest pre-school as those teachers are experienced in caring for other people's brats.

Not just kalifornians, assholes from east of the Appalachian mountains in N Va are the same type of trash. Sadly I run into them frequently, nondriving, assholish morons.

Iowa tried to collect income tax from IPERS retirees that no longer resided in Iowa. The courts ruled no. I expect this precedent will apply to California retirees as well.

I wonder if California expects General Motors to pay income tax to California for cars sold to California from Detroit.

When I lived in Superior CA (far north by the border,) the CA IRS actually queried OR and Nevada farm suppliers to see which CA residents bought baling twine. Then they took the list and audited them all to see if they bought out of state farming equipment and failed to pay sales tax.

I represented farmers and ranchers at the time and quite a few got caught. Some farm equipment runs in the hundreds of thousands.

In 2006 when I left, they hounded me for state payroll liabilities for years too. DMV did to, for years.

Of note, you can't ignore it. I replied each time with a notarized letter sometimes, and kept my California corporate lawyer on retainer for three years.

Yeah....Kalifornistan tried to hit up retired military personnel that had served any time in the state and tax their retired pay....the Fed told them to go POUND SAND!!

How can they tax you for anything after you've left the state? On what grounds? SCREW THEM!!

So basically California will not accept food if it is not raised a certain way. California is fixing to find out that their requirements will lead to starvation and may start a trend where states that have ridiculous requirements will not find any sellers willing to sell or ship to them.

Yes, Sweetie. I know that CA won't really fall into the ocean and I certainly hope the Chinese don't invade - AND - I do have several friends in California. My post was only intended as a light-hearted jab at CA's horrible state of political crappery.

I hope you do understand that I don't wish you, or the good people in CA any ill will.

California is also a mountainous area. I lived in the Sierras and the Shasta/Klamath mountains for about 30 years. Born in Folsom but was mostly raised in the Sierras.

Folks in those areas are or mostly was vary old schooled conservatives. Just that in the last 40 years they have killed our main industry, and continue to drive out the farmers, ranchers and just good peoples, by over mandate, environmental laws and taxes.

It's really sad to see it, but as the losers always say, "it is what it is".

We have political crappery in excess. Our whore of a VP is evidence of that crappery. Pleasure a significantly older politician and you too can suck your way to the top. Sorry to be crass but she is the epitome of all that is wrong with politics.

Then you have our governor who thinks he walks on water and can do no wrong. WRONG! One man shouldn’t be able to change the operations of a state. I seriously hope he is recalled. Another horrible human.

There was a time when we were conservative but it seems that in California, the more rich and educated you are, the more liberal and out of touch with American values you become.

I’ll take ranchers, loggers, mechanics and other worker bees over the “intellectual techsters” in this state any day. How do the people in Silicon Valley not realize they are not living in the real world? A grid down scenario would help this state more than I care to admit.
