(WVNS) — Dollar General Corporation announced plans to dedicate the first hour of each shopping day to seniors. Dollar General will also adjust its store hours beginning on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

Dollar General is doing this in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. According the release, Dollar General wants to provide these at-risk customers with the ability to purchase items at the beginning of each day to avoid busier and more crowded shopping periods.

Other customers will be allowed to shop after this time period. In addition, all stores plan to close one hour earlier than their current closing time. This will allow employees to clean and re-stock.

“In keeping with our mission and our ongoing commitment to serve our communities, we are dedicating the first hour of each day to seniors. We appreciate our customers’ understanding of our decision and request they visit our stores later in the morning to allow at-risk populations the ability to purchase the items they need at affordable prices. During these unprecedented times, Dollar General is diligently working to meet the ongoing needs of our customers and communities. We are proud to live our mission and provide customers with everyday low prices on the household essentials that are used and replenished most often.”

Hello folks,

Newbie here. Just checking in with my first post. :) Thanks Deena, for setting me up, and thanks Dennis for making this place possible. Been a long time lurker, but this plague has brought me out of the shadows. Thank you to everyone, all members, mods and admins, for making this forum a great place to gather, in these 'interesting times".
God Bless,

Well I've been lurking since around 2008, when things started to look a bit crazy then... Anyway I had stumbled upon Y'all when a member mentioned it on TTOL when I lurked over there, then they went haywire and I stopped going there. Over the years I have noticed your ups and downs, the crazy and the calm... And I have gleaned much information and news from this site and is one of my go-to's daily... So i guess this is "hello, I've step out of the shadows, nice to finally meet y'all" I do miss some of the members that are no longer with us... Anyway I'll do my best to post often but with meaning.
Until then, stay frosty.

Lurker since about 03. Portland resident from 1980 to 2000. Dennis, can you complete this phrase? Norvac ___________.

As other Lurkers I'm sure can attest to, we have the unique position of knowing you all, as the shadows in the rooms over the years. You've contributed immensely to our knowledge base. Perhaps I'll be able to return the favor.

That's what the Fox say's.

Electronics.

Radar ____________ (s.e. PDX)
Electric; as I recall. Between those two you could find most any electronic part needed, until that whole industry just kinda went away. Beaverton.

Perhaps you went a few times on the weekend to Cascade Surplus in NE PDX. Strange guy but lots of cool stuff.

In my initial sign up I pointed out my Tech background: Unisys, Pacificorp. Worked for lot's of others. Most notable was a stint with Joel Kammerman of Kammerman Labs- During his Bankruptcy proceeding. Big mail order computer joint that went bust due to the explosion in PC stores. Very depressing to work there at the time due to all the customers calling in and telling me their woeful stories of buying a computer for 3K and never got to use it. Anyway, during the Kammerman Labs stint, I was running the service dept. Computers shipped to destination. Dead on arrival; Sent back for warranty repair; Returned to customer; DOA. Usually due to a head crash. Add nausea-um. This was when a high end PC had a 20 Meg HDA and something like 64, 128 or 256K for ram and DOS was king. Big Iron, too. I remember working in Nike's computer room. What a head rush even after a year on. I should start a thread on: Remember When.

Man were the jobs great back then. And the contract agencies were a hot ticket to a great job. Not just trading in slaves.

Couldn't find a reference to what those smiley icons mean. Some are obvious, others like: Angry are not. Is it the post content or the subject poster that triggered the reader. I keep making someone angry. Well, that's not all that unusual.

The like emoticons reference the CONTENT of the story, not the MEMBER POSTING IT. (If you have board functionality questions, either PM a staff member or post your question in a stand-alone thread. You'll get a faster answer.)

Yes, Radar Electric. I used to hang out there all the time, drooling over the test equipment I was WAY too poor to buy.

Hi! Finally found my way home. I was a member here for several years......then last fall the site moved and my husband passed away. Really threw my life a curve ball and I've been struggling to get my act back together. So here I am......hoping to find some comfort in the presence of folks who have their acts together.

I see a lot of delete posts?
Does that simply mean that someone delete their posts.
Or does that occur when admin deletes.
thanks

Hello all. I’ve been lurking and reading since about January of this year. And I’ve been reading pretty much every day since the beginning of March and I finally joined.

Ive been somewhat of a prepper for the last 5 years or so but it’s been mainly around guns and knives and survival equipment. But once I read about the corona virus on here, I’ve been stocking upon foods, drinks, cleaning equipment, meds etc.

My job requires me to be in direct contact with people infected with Covid-19 since I work in the hospital. The PPE shortage is real, but I’m sure I don’t have to tell anyone of you on here that.

Anyway sorry for the long first post. I’m looking forward to reading and learning more on this site.

Thank you so much for keeping my membership active after so many years of lurking. This is definitely my favorite site, and has been for many years! My desire is to become more interactive, especially now that I am on lock-down and have more time on my hands. May God bless you all, and keep you well during this crazy time!
