…… Need help cleaning chicken feet

Hi there, new here. I think this is the right place to ask. Someone is giving me over ten pounds of chicken feet. I initially was going to buy them, assuming they were already cleaned off. Now I find out she is giving them to me because she doesn't feel like cleaning them.

Ummm, how do I do this? Just run them under water and freeze them? I'm not looking forward to it and would have reneged my offer but...it's too late.

Run them through your sink grinder, which will effectively remove all the disagreeable parts. Then take fresh chicken pieces from the supermarket package, place THOSE in your cookware, and continue.

(Just wanted to post something lighthearted.)

I just found this, doesn't look too hard, but 10 plus pounds isn't going to be fun.

To clean feet from your own butchered chickens: Rinse off all visible dirt under running water, then soak the feet in a water-vinegar solution for 10 minutes. Agitate to remove any loosened soil, empty, rinse, repeat, but this time just for a couple of minutes. Final rinse and your chicken feet are spotlessly clean, ready for the stock pot!

:p I just use them for stock.

I wondered what the heck you want with chicken feet. And then someone actually posted a good answer - holy chicken - i would never have guessed.
Now I am wondering how you clean chicken beaks.

Emily's process above sounds good, but I would probably add some hydrogen peroxide to the water also (If you saw the things my chickens get their feet in - gag!). The solution I use for cleaning vegetables is 1 gallon water, 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1 tablespoon of salt. I would think the same recipe would also work well for cleaning chicken feet.

Lucky! I looked everywhere and cannot find any chicken feet.

Found one butcher who had chicken necks (similar results) but he only had 1 1/2 pounds. AARGH

I was going to suggest a mild soap and a soft toothbrush until I cleaned my reading glasses! Lol! V

Best way is to pitch them, but... I've been in places where I needed to use every bit of everything I could get. If you roast them over a flame (blowtorch is best, but I suppose a gas flame would work too) the nails will pull right ff and the scaly skin will peel off. You can get rid of all the nasties that way.

I picked them up today. They are not as bad as I thought they were going to be by a long shot, the chicken farmer must have hosed them off. Shouldn't be much work to dump them in a bucket and clean them off.

Shudder!!! I think I would rather just boil down scraps and bones to get gelatin from chicken. My chickens wade around in some pretty gruesome stuff!

And not sure, but I think there might be plants one can use for thickener.

Gee, I'm really skinny and my feet are sorta like chicken feet. Wonder if I could soak them and make some nice broth to pour over my dog's food?

If you have roosters think about saving those combs. Big Pharma pays BIG bucks for them to be used in the gel they insert into knees that have arthritis or little cartilage.

Scald the feet in hot water (forget the temp off the top of my head) and the outer layer (with all the crud) peels right off.
