Need crank down well plan

I have a private dug well on my family farm. The outer casing is a large barrel type cement cover.

I remember other family members having the crank down baskets while growing up, but can not seem to find them available for purchase anywhere. No luck with foxfire, google, cumberland, e-bay. I did manage to find well wheels or pulleys.

But I need to either buy or build the barrel and crank handle used to lower the bucket via cable. I also see the decorative ones at stores, but they are just that.

Maybe a machine shop for the handle. lathe a full timber for the barrel or strips of wood nailed around three or four circular stabilizers.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I know next to nothing about anything engineering, but prehaps this plan for a deep well hand pump would be a viable alternative. I think I found the link on TB2K, so maybe someone here will have more imput.

Thanks GingerGirl.

There is also a drilled well about 20 feet away from the dug one. I remember it as a kid from 30 years ago, and my dad had covered it with a piece of tin. I will need to try and dig through years of leaves and debris to get to it. I hope it is still a viable water source. I don't know the depths of either, but have plans on using a shallow 20' - 24' pitcher pump for the drilled one. I might change to a deep well pump later on if it looks to get too shallow in the heated months. So a hand pump will definately be used at some point.
