Because she is an 84-year-old lady who was freaking KIDNAPPED, that's why.

Know of any other 84-year-old ladies who got KIDNAPPED??
OK... so what is it about her age, that warrants the federal government to amass all it's resources to find this one person kidnapped.

How about all these others, including the children below who are kidnapped or abducted? Shouldn't they get the same level of help?

Summary of Daily Kidnapping Incidents

Type of AbductionEstimated Daily Incidents
Total missing children2,300
Family abductions1,127 (approx.)
Non-family abductions33
These statistics highlight the serious nature of kidnapping and the various circumstances under which individuals, especially children, go missing.

Yes, I know. We all know. The crime rings are a lot bigger than we think they are and there's not enough LE to go around. Probably why a lot of us are waiting on JC to clean the cage.

My wife thinks this will be the basis of a DocuDrama in 3-4 years. I think someone is writing it now.

In any event, wiithout a lot more history, who know what may have triggered this?

I just hope Mrs Guthrie gets located & returned to her family to live out her life as we all hope to.

Ok now that all federal resources are made available to this I’m finally following and catching up on this.

Why does this case warrant Presidential attention?

How is this woman more special than the thousands of other abductions nationwide?

Abducted kids are worth a mere (up too) $500 reward in California. That’s less than half a day for a federal agent working this case.

Was her daughter working on a national security level story with evidence of serious security concerns?

I did just hear that there is an Epstien link here.

I lived in Tucson my first 24 years. A lot of "coyote" human smugglers. Human trafficking. Weird stuff.
Lots of "Reconquistador" mentality. Drugs. And a weird connection to a Cement Company that trafficked humans and when they were dead, ground the remains and added to the cement mixers.

I dunno. The comments are interesting, I'm confused.

A ransom note sent to media outlets demanding millions for the release of Nancy Guthrie set a deadline of 5pm Thursday, the FBI has revealed.

Officials told reporters at a press conference in Tucson, Arizona on Thursday that the ransom notes have not been verified as legitimate, but they are being taken 'very seriously' as an investigative lead.

Investigators said the ransom did not include proof of life nor a way for the Guthrie family to make contact. However, it did set a secondary deadline of Monday for them to meet demands of millions in Bitcoin for the 84-year-old's return.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said a sweep of Guthrie's home also found that a doorbell camera disconnected in the dead of night around the time she disappeared in the early hours of Sunday.

Sheriff Nanos told reporters that the doorbell camera disconnected at 1:47am, but at 2:12am, a person was detected by the camera's sensors. At 2:28am, Nancy's pacemaker app - a device tracking her heartbeat - disconnected from her phone's Bluetooth, Nanos said.

He said no suspects or persons of interest have been identified in the ongoing investigation, but added that he had 'not ruled anyone out' as a potential abductor.

Nanos also made a carefully-worded statement about Nancy, but later denied he was suggesting that she is no longer alive.

Opening the press conference, Nanos said: 'We believe Nancy is still out there... We want her home.'

'Our department, the sheriff’s department, along with our partners at the FBI have been working around the clock. We just want her home and to get to the bottom of this, like you do.'

Nanos said that although no suspects have been identified, the FBI made an arrest early Thursday, saying an impostor was charged for allegedly sending a fake ransom note.

At Thursday's press conference, officials said DNA analysis showed the blood belonged to Nancy. No other forensic evidence has pointed toward a suspect, Nanos said.

FBI Special Agent Heith Janke insisted that the wide-ranging investigation has not ruled anyone out as suspects, and said that agents are 'analyzing information from all digital sources, which includes banks, social media companies, phone companies, and any other organization where a digital footprint could have been captured.'

The Pima County Sheriff's Office acknowledged a ransom note sent to TMZ and KOLD on Tuesday afternoon, three days after the 84-year-old was snatched from her $1 million home where she lived alone.

Authorities have not verified the legitimacy of the notes, but have said they are looking at 'every lead' in the ongoing investigation.

TMZ reported that the note, which it also said it could not verify as being sent by the abductors, demanded millions in Bitcoin for the release of Nancy, with a deadline for it to be paid 'or else.'

The outlet said that the note demanded the Bitcoin be sent to a specific cryptocurrency address, which it has verified as a real Bitcoin address, along with chilling details of what Nancy was wearing at the time of her abduction.

Officials previously said they have no reason to believe Nancy may have been targeted because of her daughter, but have also not ruled out any inquiries.

On Wednesday, Arizona TV news anchor Mary Coleman revealed new details of the possible ransom note, saying that she believes it 'might not be a hoax.'

Coleman said the Nancy Guthrie ransom note that was sent to the KOLD newsroom contained a 'lot of it is information that only someone who was holding her for ransom would know.'

'Some very sensitive information and things that people who weren't there when she was taken captive wouldn't know,' Coleman told CNN.

She added, 'It also included a dollar amount, a deadline, and, again, other specifics that only Guthrie's abductor might know, so that definitely raised some red flags.'

It remains unclear if any of those specific details were true as neither investigators nor the Guthrie family have commented on the details.

Savannah Guthrie referenced the note in an emotional video plea for her mother's return on Wednesday night, but said the family would require proof her mother was still alive before considering its demands.

Coleman also revealed the note was sent to the station via email, and that her team immediately sent it to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

'We immediately sent that information over to the sheriff's department, and they're, of course, looking into the legitimacy of it,' she said.

'One of the detectives did get back to us and asked us for some more information so that they can start searching for an IP address and things of that nature to try and figure out who or what people are responsible here.'

Does that mean she is dead?
No. The pacemaker must be within a fairly close range (with a few feet) to the receiving device (smartphone, smartwatch, etc) in order to communicate. Just like my Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM).

If the person with the medical device moves beyond the maximum signal range it triggers a timestamped “dropped connection” alert.

Well, if this is Mexican kidnappers, it kind of shoots a hole into the liberals argument about the poor little sad little Mexican illegal immigrants, doesn’t it?

No. The pacemaker transmits a short distance to the iPhone watch
Which then transmits info to the Dr’s office
maybe 150ft or so.
Actually, the pacemaker and my CGM communicate to a smartphone app which then communicates with a smartwatch if you have one.

The smartphone app also communicates to your medical team over the Internet via a secure server.

After revisiting this thread below, could this abduction be a response to Trump’s war on the Mexican cartels?

Abductions of recognizable celebrities, sports figures, business owners, etc or their family members always make the news and garner more public interest than your typical John or Jane Doe abduction.

Not saying it’s “right” but it is the reality.

I understand that and don’t like it, don’t agree with it.

Merely calling attention to it.

Kind of an obscure target.

IMHO, if this was in response to Trump's cartel policy they would have taken someone more directly involved in the policy to make a clearer point.

Obscure on the surface, yes... but in today's environment, with social media in play... it is automatically elevated to a high-profile case.

If she employed illegals with connections to the cartels, those employees knew who she was (and who her daughter is). If they fed that information to people connected to the cartels, then they could see an opportunity.

Heck, they could have been planning this for weeks or months... knowing exactly what her routine was and what cameras to eliminate. No physical presence required to surveil... just use drones.

For a minute.

This kidnapping will likely be resolved fairly quickly, one way or the other.
LOL..

I haven't seen this much media coverage for one person, since Casey Anthony.

the Epstein thing is just ramping up, IMO.

Americans have very SHORT attention spans... they'll move on to the next "shiny thing", quickly, at whatever the MSM tells them to focus on.

I'll be blunt:
1. Savannah Guthrie is a well-known media personality. She's kinda well-liked. And she has some influence. It would be very foolish for other well-known media personalities to be nasty with regard to Trump offering federal assistance to local LEOs. And it would make Savannah Guthrie eventually somewhat "appreciative" of Trump taking interest in her mother and family and that would help with the media.

2. Possibly, if this has anything to do with immigrants, it would make it obvious that Trump and his admin is serious about illegal/immigrant crime in an area that may well be especially vulnerable to the issue.

3. It makes Trump's admin look more human and therefore less monster-like on personal/immigrant issues.

4. It will give the Trump admin and foot in the door of working with local LEOs and getting access to info/intel that they've been withholding.

The list goes on and on. There really is no downside to making federal resources available to the Tucson LEOs.

She wasnt working on anything. Savannah was on medical leave for surgery until last week.

Media is covering it because it is one of their own effected.

We moved my parents out of Tucson more than 20 years ago - even then, in their subdivision, people were installing bars on their windows and doors. But I think the idea that horrifies most of us is that she was home, asleep, in a "nice" neighborhood - and she was just taken and no one knows where she is. Places where people thought they were safe are no longer safe. I think this kidnapping is opening up a lot of eyes to the truth of what's out there.

I think all the attention to this case is great. But.... it could be bad. The feds., the President, the resources! It may be that plans have changed and those responsible are now running scared and simply want to "dispose" of the "situation" they find themselves in, given too much attention. If those responsible are now running scared, as they should be, they may just want to "be done" and "disappear" and get rid of her. I am not expecting a happy outcome to this "kidnapping". Sad!

Trump's attention because of international implications of a Mexican cartel doing this to have an effect Trump's anti-cartel/international terrorism policies? Grab Ms Guthrie because she's a high profile target living near the border with no security?

If federal forces don't crack this it sets the example that the cartels can carry out business Mexican-style against US citizens here in the US. And Mexican-style cartel operations here in the US is not something we want.

Guthrie trashed Trump for years with lies and propaganda on her network. She painted him as an evil fascist who only cares about himself.

This is how Trump treated her in return. What a bastard…
That's the part I don't get. She works for NBC. We all know the history with NBC (and MSNBC) in regards to Trump.

Just why should he care, and make it look like he's the good guy?? NBC will just go back to bashing him, after this dust settles. It WON'T change anyone's mind.

This makes a lot of sense. We need to make sure the cartels don't think Americans are easy pickings.

Or, it could be that he is a caring individual who is actually concerned about this 84-year-old woman who was kidnapped. And, even if many people won't change their minds, I know there will be some who do.
