CORP/BIZ National coin shortage ?

They are on it and making more now.
Why would they need to make more ? The old change didn't evaporate. I understand not being able to visit a live teller to acquire rolled coin. But even if they minted tons and tons of it. We would still be unable to get to it.

Somewhere among my gazillion newsletters I read, daily, there was something about the govt. stopping the use of coins....not sure where I read it or if it was to be all coins or just some. There was mention of if the item we buy was less than a dollar, without coins available, it is easy to charge the dollar.

I have read to expect inflation, ahead. This is one way they can do it. Maybe you shouldn't donate all those coins.

It "evaporates". They stamp coins like crazy. Over time, people save coins. I have jars of coins. I just don't get around to taking them to the bank. So, coins essentially go out of circulation if more are not stamped to continue. I think it's just a cycle going on here from Covid scare.

I know the pennies made after 1982 are 99+% zink, just a micro thin copper coating.

And they do seem to dissolve away in about a year if let outside in our AO. Nearer the coastlines and areas that have high acidity soils, the new stinky zink pennies should last only months in harsh environments.

You are probably correct TKO. Maybe I'll start taking my meds again :)

I have never stopped picking up change when I see it in parking lots, etc..

Just yesterday at the dollar store I spied a dime and nickel that someone had dropped them into the candy bars located right in front of counter. My purchase cost a few bucks and change and I used that 15 cents to complete my transaction.

Like holes in my Jean's, I'm a trend setter.

On rare occasions I'll still get a silver dime or quarter back in change.

Anytime I have, I immediately pull out a $20 and give it to them telling
them I need all quarters for laundry mat or car wash. I'll grumble that
their dollar change machine over there is broken, blah, blah, blah...

Most times when I've done so, I'll then get even more silver quarters.

What's usually happened, I surmise, is some kid got into his Dad's or
granddads change drawer or coin bucket, swiping his change to then
go buy cigs, beer or gas, etc.

Neither dumb shit thief spending it, nor store counter person giving it
to me, have any clue that a pre-65 silver quarter has over $3.20 silver
value to it, that's almost 13 times face value!

You can keep up with those changing values scrolling down this page...

About five years ago a friend who was a long term contractor in A'stan showed me some of the plastic tokens the Army was using for change in the PX/BXs over there.

Don't be surprised at anything.

Banks and businesses don't want to handle coinage any more. And any self serve business that took coins will have to convert to credit card enabled. Credit card companies love that. Pretty sure the car wash I go to no longer takes coins or tokens.

my local hardware store will not accept cash.. at all.. anymore

my car insurance agent refused to take cash when I signed up

i made such a big stink that she eventually took it

(after she made 3 phone calls)

she told me its because they have to purolator their transactions to head office

so I told her if she distrusts purolator, its not my problem

Uh oh......I just picked up the same combination in the local sale barn parking lot, last week !!

Didn’t go very far toward that $300. bucket calf, though.....

So.....banks are sucking up physical currency, for the purpose of implementing digital.......the police and prison systems are going into the rearview.....
Criminal property damage against the working class is peaceful protest.....resistance to the same is a federal crime.....food shortages and hyperinflation may be on the horizon....

What’s not to love ?

I work for a nationwide pharmacy. We turned in a change order at our Wells Fargo bank Friday and was told we could only receive one roll of each denomination. I'm sure signs asking for exact change will soon be going up in our stores as well.

So the idiot agency doesn't have a checking account that they could deposit your funds into and then send a check to corporate? Really?

In my earlier post, I said I knew I had read, somewhere, that the govt. would stop making currency, but I couldn't recall which of all the many newsletters I get told about that.

Well, this morning, I discovered the source, altho some of you will question it.
A site I trust had posted this amazing dream a pastor had had....and may I preface this by saying when I see where someone is prophecying something, I don't even bother to read it. This time, because of the source, I decided to...there is both a video showing the pastor explain his AMAZING dream. as well as it being printed out to read. He is a very dedicated Christian pastor.

Again...I would never post someone's dream on the forum, except that this dream is so amazingly prophetic, with the dates coinciding with events....it is just too real.

Below is just a small part of his dream... to show where he learned there would be no more change and why:. Below it, I give the link to the entire article showing the rather short video and his rather lengthy but fascinating explanation of his entire dream.

"In this dream. We just had a yard sale to help fund team going to Ecuador this next year.
We had a yard sale. I had asked our secretary to get some change for that for that yard sale. So, in the dream that I’m having, .. I walk to the bank. I walk into the bank to get some change. On the door, it says there’s no change available.

I saw the sign and registered in mind. I walked on in, and the president of the local bank was at the teller station. She was taking care of business.
And I said, I need to get $10 in quarters for yard sale and she said, I’m sorry, but the US Mint is no longer making currency or making change… ( like pennies nickels dimes quarters half dollars), “We’re not doing that anymore”,
“well what do you mean”

She said, … ” they stopped doing it”
I said, “Well, how am I going to be able to charge $1.50 for anything ?
She said, ” prepare for hyperinflation and just charge $2 “

Then she said to me in the dream… Oh by the way, $1 and $5 bills will follow soon after that.
Then I heard those words. “Brace yourself. Brace yourself. Brace yourself.”

Now, for those who wish to check out the rest of his amazing dream, this is the link.. The video takes 15:57 min. and well worth your time.

I might add that I have heard at least 4 different well known economists say that this fall will be the tipping point...financial disaster. Daniel Estulin says September is the biggee....that banks will start failing...the smaller ones, first. He recommended. in a webinar I listened to.... taking money out of your bank.

Many of the businesses in northern NY, have signs up asking people to pay with exact change. Or signs asking to buy rolled coins. Every ones claiming a national coin shortage. Are other areas of the country seeing this ?
DW being a waitress. We have lots of rolls. I've offered them to local stores and gas stations at $12 a roll for quarters, $6 a roll for dimes, $2.75 for nickles. ;) Supply and demand.
A MN clerk told me yesterday it was due to the corona virus keeping everyone in lockdown. If true, then only democrat-run states will be short of coins. If all states are suffering from coin shortage, then it must be another democrat scheme. First coins, then dollars?

I saw a “coin shortage” sign at a local business. I’m wondering where all the coins went all the sudden and what’s the bigger meaning.

I saw the same sign at my local grocery store last week, and thought it was strange! My guess is that they’re pulling them at the Fed level. It might sound a little tin foil hat, but if they slowly boil the water and get people used to rounding up to pay in whole dollars, then that’s one step closer to a cashless society and a one-world currency.

Our local banks in S. CA desert are open for walk in with social distancing.
I don't think any have reopened lobbies for normal stuff. I think you need an appointment for anything else.
I did just go to a Wells Fargo drive through. They had a sign about the coin shortage.
Only one roll per denomination and only for business customers.

Canadian Loonie
Canada hasn't used pennies (cents) for years now...... cheaper to round the price up or down - $3.77 becomes $3.75 and $3.78 becomes $3.80

We just have nickels, dimes, quarters, Loonies ($1) and Toonies (2).... all the rest are a plastic bill $5, 10, 20, 50, 100.

Can't be counterfeited and don't wear out like paper. Move on up into efficient currency.

Our banks didn't ever close except for 2 weeks while they disinfected and did some planning...... social distancing but no masks required.

My local grocery store wouldn't give me change, quarters rolls for a $20, today. This is midwest HY-Vee. Went to bank, no problem.

National Coin Shortage signs posted at each register.
HEB Grocery
Burleson, TX (suburb of Ft Worth.

The also required masks for every customer and provided (free) paper mask at door.

Stock seemed good. Meat prices were much higher

Nope. Not seeing any problems. But most places are encouraging to use credit/debit cards instead of cash right now cuz: Covid.

I have coinage around. It doesn't hurt anything sitting there and could come in handy for easily recognizable commerce some day. If nothing else, an emergency stash.

Whatever. It ain't my problem. The Treasury Dept. can always get on with stamping out more.

Um . . . you know that the Federal Reserve does not make coins. . . right?
They are stamped out by the Mint, a department of the US Treasury.

Why would there be a coin shortage?
Yes, I know. Thanks.

My comment stemmed from the conversation within this thread theorizing that the coin shortage is a step toward a cashless society. My point is that that has been happening behind the scenes for a while now.

Yes zinc inside and copper plated. A baby who swallows one of these will have a hole burned in it's stomach, but not with the old pure copper coins. I read that many yrs ago.

Stores order it from Brinks, Total armored car around here. They bring change in bills and checks out for bank processing. The armored car co get the coins at local federal reserve bank. I don't see the problem. Forcing cashless or that hyper inflation coming. If we only knew! I hope I aint singing that song . If I only knew back then what I know now.
