All I know is the 2017 eclipse gave me the creeps. Something just didn't feel right in the air.

Reassured to hear that, Grey. DW and I watched the October one last fall, and it was ....unsettling... We're also in the direct path of this one. The path crossing of those two happens about ten miles from us. IDK what all the outside world might've looked like as far as nuttiness, we didn't go anywhere. We did, however, pause to go outside with our cardboard glasses and watch the thing happen. It was eerie, especially before and after the peak of the show. I think it was the fact that our minds were telling us it was an early fall afternoon in Texas, and there were no clouds, and we were in the sunshine making shadows on the ground, so it's SUPPOSED to feel a bit warm....but it was as chilly as a February, snow-covered afternoon for about three hours. Spooky indeed.

I have a feeling this'n is gonna be worse for that feeling of dread that had no physical, concrete basis. Yeah, we'll probably go outside and watch it. Better'n being INside at noontime with it dark outside LOL. We're in Gillespie County, about half a mile in from the Kerr county line, with Kerr on our west and south sides. Actual path falls about 2 miles west of us. (Anybody wanna come help us watch it? PM if you're serious and I'll shoot ya some directions! I'll get the solar cooker out and we'll have some steak tartare and ceviche! LMAO)

Surprised nobody's mentioned that the path crossing is not terribly far away from the Empty Cross in Kerrville.

Why the heck is there so much chatter about this particular eclipse?
(Yes, I know about the multiple Nineveh towns along the path, and other oddities)
Eclipses normally come and go with little real impact on society, other than social commentary on beauty, science, etc.
Chatter seems way too disproportionate. Seems psy-op-ish.
We know that the elite use special dates, numerology, heavenly events, etc. for their plans.
ETA: Are they trying to move the herd in a particular direction?
Something special planned?
"They" are selling FEAR on everything now-a-days. The weather, economy, travel, gas prices, illegals, and stolen elections. It's all about fear.

Are you sure about that?
I'm posting was has been and what is now.

I want the most manly man on the forum to call me a good girl for not mentioning the future.

Getting to the last eclipse wasn't bad. Coming home, not so great. Double the time to get home on back roads, and for those who chanced I-95, triple.

It shouldn't be so bad this time. Less than an hour drive to get right into the path, and the second the full eclipse is done, we're on the road. I'll have food, water, we'll gas up and I will carry a map, etc. (I carried a map last time too, and it paid off, saved us 2 extra hours on the trip home).

Had to laugh though, in some dink town in the very southern part of N. Carolina, I was astonished to see a house with not just one Confederate flag, but EIGHT, all in a circle. Talk about unreconstructed Southerners.

Where are the eclipse glass made? What if they don't work properly?
I’ve wondered that too.
I suppose you’d have millions with eye damage….

There’s a list of approved manufacturers that you’re supposed to look for when buying the glasses but it’s a very long list. I found it when googling where to buy eclipse glasses but couldn’t tell you where that was.

Kroger, Meijer, Lowe’s, Menards and a whole bunch of others are selling the “approved” eye glasses.
I’m getting mine today.

The thread on this specific issue has information about recent counterfeits on the market. They came from China, and the labels marking them safe are fake.

The article tell you three things to do to check what you have for safety before the Eclipse.

It’ll be going right over our head here in Southern Missouri. Thankfully we’re extremely rural and will be staying home. I’m hoping if the cell towers go out that Starlink will continue working.

Yep, got it, and read that!
Thank you!

At least the National Guard will be around.

National Guard to Be Deployed for Solar Eclipse 2024

www.newsweek.com

Oklahoma's National Guard is set to be deployed for the upcoming total solar eclipse, when as many as 100,000 people are expected to visit one county.

In a statement on Tuesday, the guard said it would assist emergency management to cope with "an unprecedented number of tourists" on April 8 in McCurtain County, in the southeast of the state.

The guard will provide first responders as well as units with hazmat response capabilities in case of an incident like an industrial fire.

Lt. Col Jabonn Flurry, commander of the 63rd Civil Support Team, said: "This influx of visitors has the potential to overtax local resources and thanks to the training and experience our Guardsmen have working alongside local agencies all across Oklahoma, the CST is uniquely qualified to support our fellow Oklahomans."

McCurtain County contains the city of Idabel, which NASA has predicted will be among the 13 best spots in the country to see the total eclipse when it occurs. The total eclipse—when the sun is completely shrouded by the moon—is due to begin at 1:45 p.m. CT (2:40 p.m. ET) there and end at 1:49 p.m.

With the spectacle expected to draw crowds across the nation to areas in the eclipse's path, officials are already voicing concern about stretched public safety resources, while some schools plan to close for the day, citing student safety.

At least four states on the eclipse's trajectory have urged residents to stock up on groceries and gas ahead of its occurrence, as traffic is expected to overwhelm local roads. The Federal Highway Administration has also warned that increased traffic to remote areas could lead to unsafely parked vehicles and the potential for wildfires in areas with dry vegetation.

McCurtain County is home to the Beavers Bend State Park, among those recommended for viewing the eclipse by the Oklahoma state government.

Cody McDaniel, the McCurtain County emergency manager, told KOCO News 5 that as well as concerns about a build-up of traffic on the county's two-lane roads, first responders were preparing for potential search and rescue operations.

"What we found through our research during some of the other eclipses, people were getting lost because cars were stopped on the road. So they'd get out and walk into the fields," he said.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has created a solar eclipse road map showing the live status of roads, including ongoing roadworks, within the vicinity where the total eclipse will be visible.

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management also suggested considering visiting viewing spots in neighboring states that may be less busy, such as in Texas and Arkansas. The eclipse will move from northern Mexico across the east and into New England.

The Oklahoma National Guard has previously been deployed to respond to extreme weather events such as floods, wildfires and tornadoes.
Update 3/20/24, 9:30 a.m. ET: This article was updated with further information.

I just saw a notice that the county SWAT team is conducting a training exercise March 25 through April 8th. We’re just east of Cincinnati. I’ll be in west Cincinnati on the 8th, in a lousy neighborhood, and am not looking forward to the eclipse, so…. The notice caught my eye. Wondering how many other training exercises are culminating on the 8th?

We were thirty minutes away from totality last time, so we drove north far enough to see it, to a tiny little city park in the middle of absolutely nowhere --- and it was PACKED with people. Was an interesting day. The bats came out, the birds freaked, some deer walked around all wide-eyed, amongst the thousand or so people in the park.

Traffic wasn't terrible getting home, but it was all back roads until we got to the state highway. Lots of cars, but normal speed.

We're a six-hour drive from it this time. Not happening. My family didn't even know about it until I told them and insisted we go, last time. Also, I'd planned to keep the kids out of school, but the schools finally decided to close the day before it happened -- at that last minute. This time, there's a lot of hype and warnings, and it just seems... odd.

Make sure you have glasses for your eyes and the right filter for your camera.

At least a million Americans will be away from home. This is sort of related.
Yea, they are getting your geolocation data and your information so that they know who's homes to send the illegals to squat in.

Are these people talking to each other?

NASA says you shouldn't use your phone to photograph the solar eclipse

I have taken straight on shots with all of the phone cameras (and other digital cameras) at the sun for more than two decades with zero issues.
