Sounds like you're doing good!! I've got tomatoes that are almost as big around as a small saucer! However, not even one of them looks like its even thinking about turning red or yellow. Do you have any idea why mine won't ripen? I'm sitting here dying for a ripe tomato and getting pretty frustrated!!:shk:

Catskip - that's great. I put our out a month early this year (early May) since it looked like we wouldn't be gaetting any more frosts.

I prepare the soil and add some oystershell flour, rock phosphate, etc. and put in a handful of alfalfa pellets in each hole at planting plus some Soil Guard 12G which is s microbial fungicide. Then I just fertigate them the rest of the season. I use Plantex 30-30-30 with trace minerals that is diluted and injected into the irrigation water.

Cathy - I feel guilty because a few of ours are starting to color. These are in my hydroponic experiment section. The rest of them are just green and getting bigger.

Todd

Edit to add - We have 38 plants out this year from 19 varieties.

Todd,

Don't feel guilty......just be happy you are lucky!! I got lucky today too. Hubby was coming home and stopped at a roadside stand. The guy was ready to leave and sold him 3 big bags , one each of beans, corn, and tomatoes. for a dollar apiece. So, in a round about way I got my fresh tomato after all! :D :D :D Kathy

Kathy my tomatoes last year took a long time to ripen i planted next to my shead and they were shaded for about 4 hours in the morning this time they get sun from 0 dark 30 till the sun sets .The road side tomatoes are good for now but nothing can replace your own vine ripe ones. Now my mouth is watering again.:spns:

Mine are getting full sun- guess its just not time to ripen yet! I've got mostly Mortgage Lifters and then some kind of pink and yellow marbled tomato that didn't have a real name on them. They just said pink and yellow on the tag. They are evidently a huge tomato because they are the ones that are saucer sized. I'm hoping they are the ones my Grandmother used to grow. I can remember sitting down to dinner and seeing them in huge slices on her white platter. -happy times- :)
