Grnhouse My Raised Garden

This is my first effective attempt to upload a picture.

This is our raised garden. The picture was taken in October 2018. It is just as large and green today.

So far in 2019 we have picked 344 peppers, (2/3 tabasco 1/3 spicy bell and others).

The PVC is to allow for plastic to be placed around it to make a temp greenhouse effect when things get below 30 degrees here in South Georgia.

The single pot is for garlic chives and they are doing well so far, but they are not large enough to harvest yet.

You may be able to see the pipe sticking out of the concrete, that is for the next pot which we will use for cucumbers.

There are plans for 3 more planters during the next year or two. How fast depends upon my ability to scrounge blocks and willingness to mix and pour concrete. I do have a mixer, but as I get older I am less inclined to beat myself to death over such things.

Comments are welcome

Here it is with the "greenhouse" cover.

Simply a sheet of plastic 10 by 25 with clamps at key locations.

That is really cool. I love the pvc pipes. I have a ton of them laying around from old projects and may steal a couple of your ideas for my own raised beds.

I started with 2inch, but learned 1 1/2inch were just as good if not better. Three sides and the top is wrapped in chicken wire due to deer and the front is flexible mesh. Otherwise the small herd that comes through each night would erase the whole thing in a weekend.

How do you use your garlic chives?

This is a great idea actually! My issue is rabbits and chipmunks. Which type of pvc pipe did you use? Just asking because come pvc pipes are more flexible than others.

Standard schedule 40 from Home Depot / Lowes.... just be sure to get 1 1/2 inch pipe. With the cross braces and chicken wire, it will hold just fine.

You might add straw bales around the base and also plant into the bales. Should keep the soil a bit warmer in the raised beds.
