Well my health has improved immensely since my original post.
so if you have some dreams or wishes for leather items let me know.
I won’t be doing chaps or chinks because of cost and a need to measure the person they are for. ( sort of like a tailor measuring for a suit or dress.). But I will be selling the ones I have already made.
I will be posting a few pre-made items for sale in the ‘swaps and sales’ room here at tb2k.
Please remember,,,leather( as many things) is at a premium price these days.
but my prices for your orders will be below average, unless the item is made from exotic leathers.

great. Leather work is hard, Ive made a few thing, make that very few, I mean its a lot of hard work to do it right, now. all my leather work involved replacing the thread that seems to wear out on belts and holsters
Well as a leather worker I’m not the best, but I am pretty good.
I’ve handled everything from cowboy items, Saddles, bridles, tack stuff, and such for horses, and cowboys. Even some items for the sheriffs mounted police, to things as small as cell phone holsters and wallets.
most of my work has been custom work, but I did do repairs and such.
I also do braiding and such.
I have had 12 yrs in my own shop.
and a few yrs back after being told I was dying by a Dr. I closed the shop.
but it seems that I am not dead, and feeling better than I was, and up to the challenge of small leather working again.
all my new stuff will be done by hand. I have larger sewing machines, but I was only ‘satisfied‘ with the sewing the machines did.
everything will be stitched by hand from here out. The machines are going on to the sale flier.
so for now in a few days I’ll be back in a limited capacity in my shop. Cleaning out the cob webs so to speak.

Same here, I've made some leather gift items for family like backpacks and personalized shopping bags, and done a fair amount of repairs on things like patching gloves and chaps, but I've always wanted to get into boot and shoe repair because I can see a real market for repairing (or making) boots in the days to come.

That's an awfully big step from repairing holes in gloves, though.

yes,,,shoe repair, but mostly cowboy boots will need repairs. A smart idea.
Shoes nowadays are seldom made of real leather. Well good dress shoes probable are.
But with all the imitation leather goods on the market it’s often very hard to Tell.

Where the heck do you find leather now a days? I used to go to Tandy leather decades ago. But evidently they aren't around anymore.

Most of the leather I have purchased comes direct from the makers. Such as Herman Oak for example.

These folks have pretty nice leather also. GOLIGER LEATHER

I call them and they send what I need.
but to tell the truth I have leather on hand always, and haven’t ordered any in a few years.( Explanation in an above post.)

however I did open a new account just the other day with an importer of fine quality European leather.
It’s not inexpensive but it is not a being made here in the USA .
in fact, I used to order by the half cow.(called a side)
I would get two or three at a time.
I probably still have 6 sides or so in the shop now.

Springfield leather is a supplier of leather crafting goods. Springfield Leather Company

As is Tandy Leather. Tandy Leather, Inc.
I usually go to a supplier with a higher grade of leather though.
But for everyday items you can get what will do from these above. As a matter of fact other than high end goods. I think you can find some pretty fare pieces of leather from Springfield and Tandy occasionally if you pick through the stacks.

My leather working days are over I have no small motor skills anymore.but I love your work. I'll keep your info around. I may need modified straps for my buggy harness in the future as it's one of those webbing deals and doesn't last like leather. So I rivet leather into the stress points. Nothing big or complicated but I just can't do it anymore.
