PRYR RQST My Father: Vaxxed, Boosted, Leg Clot

So, yeah.

My dad. Vaxxed. Boosted. And now I discover he got a leg clot.

To be fair, he had gout going in, and after a trip to the hospital, urgent care, and the emergency room--a wonderfully complex maze of idiocy--an ultrasound revealed that it was only a small blockage. He was given some anti-clotting medication and sent on his way.

Currently praying that he doesn't have one of those squid tentacles in the making, and could stand an amen or two.

Been a while, last I knew. Got it right behind the knee. He knew something was amiss, apparently, when his foot began to swell.

Which, of course, is textbook gout.

But he went to get it checked nonetheless.
Swelling, yeah. Lots of redness? That's classical.
And that pain that feels like a sledgehammer on a broken toe with every heartbeat.
But, does gout have anything to do with a clot due to vax? Not being an ass, I'm truly asking because I'm curious. I have issues with gout and was forced to take the damned shot and first booster. No more.

I got covid back in February. I got up one morning after the covid had passed, with a terrible pain in my lower leg, inches above my angle. Swollen and painful to the touch. I went to the vascular Dr who had done a vein stripping for varicose veins on that same leg and after an ultrasound was told I had both an SVT and a DVT bloodclot. The DVT is the most dangerous. He put me on the blood thinner Zarelto which I took for about six weeks. The clot dissolved and back to normal activities.
BTW, unvaxxed here.

Most definitely, adding our prayers, too!

We have a family friend who had knee replacement surgery (2nd knee, did the 1st about a year or two ago). Had no problem with the 1st one. Had the shot, and the 2nd knee done some time afterward. Developed a very high number of clots in that leg, and spent quite a bit of time in the hospital and on anti-clotting meds.

It was very scary for a time, but family friend is doing very well, now...and is still pretty darn ticked off about the shot.

I‘m dealing with gout now. Sledgehammer on a broken toe sounds about right. The pain extends up to almost the middle of my foot.

No vax, no booster.

Yep. Been there so many times. Sheets on your toe is excruciating, much less a blanket.
But, the indocin is a very nasty medication. Use ibuprofen, but not aspirin, which makes it worse.

You have my sympathies. Looks like my mother has another clot as well, not sure where yet. Her bloodwork just came back today. Tomorrow she is going to try and get a sonogram asap and once they find the location further treatment will be determines.

Yes, she got the vax because my father pretty much blackmailed her into it very early on. However she also has a history of clots (I think two at this point). Pizzed me off but they are adults and I don't control them even if I do financially help to support them. Sometimes all there is is praryer.

Aspirin overuse can actually cause a gout attack, due to precipitation of the needle-like calcium oxalate crystals (think that's right). Vitamin C too. Avoid those. Figure out your "trigger" (mine is red meat).
My last acute attack was 2004, taking aspirin for a flu attack coming home from FL.

Limit trigger items. Be wary of pain meds.

Thankfully this was a small blockage. Praying that's it. No more clots.

Always a worry - especially with what we all know now.

Best to your father, Blacknarwhal!
