"Morning Sickness" caused by Pre-Menopause. Need Some Remedy Ideas

My wife is 45, Tubal performed 20+ years ago, so we are assuming this nausea is pre-menopausal... The only thing she has tried so far is the OTC nausea liquid.

First, buy a pregnancy test kit and make SURE she's not pregnant!! (no, it's not likely. Yes, it CAN happen. I've known... hmmmm... at least 5... women who had babies after a tubal ligation).

Then, if you think it may be due to hormones (it's possible, but there are multiple other potential causes), you might want to try supplementing Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) at the rate of 10-25 mgs 3-4x daily (or 50 mgs 2x daily)

If she likes ginger, ginger capsules or ginger tea (you can make that very simply buy buying some candied ginger and dropping 1-2 pieces in a cup of hot water and letting it steep for 15 minutes or so) are highly effective for most nausea.

Please be aware that things like liver problems, several different type of stomach problems- including gall bladder issues, etc can also cause nausea. If the usual measures (gingerale or ginger tea, saltine crackers, bouillon (some people respond to cold ginger ale, others do better with warm, salty fluids like bouillon or broth) don't help and the nausea persists, getting some routine bloodwork done (which can also check hormone levels and see if she is in perimenopause) wouldn't be a bad idea.

I have the same problem. It is because her hormones are out of whack. It can cause some serious nausea in the mornings. I cannot take The Pill as it causes the exact same reaction ... within an hour of taking it I was gagging if not actually puking.

I've tried a number of remedies and mostly I can manage rather than stop the nausea. Amberin worked the best but is expensive.

Maximum Strength Estroven which is OTC is much, much less expensive and is what I am taking now. Not as effective for me as Amberen but the closest that I have found.

Thank you. Ladies. I've been trying to get her to get labs to see where all the endocrine numbers are at, but she doesn't like the idea one bit. she says her hormones moan jut fine, lol. This isn't the first time with these symptoms, just not as severe. I've been on BHRT since last summer and I'm hoping I can get her to go the same clinic when we get our refunds from uncle sugar.

She did the test just now and we have a + result. Now she will sched a Dr appt for confirmation. As for pre-menopause, is a false positive common?

WHOA!!! Are you saying you've got a positive on an EPT test?

I suppose it's *possible* that perimenopausal hormone disruptions COULD cause a false positive pregnancy test, but mostly, the only reason for a positive is a pregnancy!

Oh, boy...

Yep,ept. I did some reading online that gave some hard numbers on the HCG readings and that yes, menopause hormone changes can cause symptoms, but that if there is a "baby on board", the HCG number will be rising steadily. She has had a couple prior alerts like this, but now this is to the point that the initial nausea had tapered off and some cravings have started as well as her abdomen firming up. If so, then she could already be at a bit over 3mo.... We hope we cab get her into her new PCP sometime this week.... we are trying not to get too worked up yet.

If you are preg positive I gotta tell you that you aren't the first of my friends to get caught at "that time of life." Perimenopause can cause wide swings in your hormone levels and sometimes it is enough to create the perfect storm. I have three friends who were all on the pill that this happened to. Their docs all said that it isn't unheard of for the pill to fail during this time of life.

Here tubes were tied 23 yrs ago, so we've never used protection. We are torn between the reality that we don't need to start raising another one for any number of reasons (age, world situation, being 18mo from empty-nest party), and excitement in that we always kinda wanted one of OUR own, not our 5 boys from prior marriage. Both of us have always wanted a daughter, but she's only had boys and I've only made boys. So it's the emotional roller-coaster... I know we will improvise, adapt, and overcome if a child is on the way.

Yeah, I've heard that story too. Shudder. You make me clinch my nether regions. My tubes weren't just cut 9 years ago, they were burned shut for all eternity. I love all five of my live children as well as the two in heaven but I asked God for a sign that number five was supposed to be number last and boy did he give it to me. Not only did I have several real scares and a lot of illness during the last pregnancy it kept going for another three months or so afterwards. LOL. We love our little dragon boy (youngest) and have considered fostering or adoption of older children - though we haven't really been given that final push by God - but another pregnancy is just out of the question. I will be 47 this year and a newborn .. uh no ... I'll take grandbabies when they come, those you can give back when you are done with them. LOL.

May God put His hand on you and guide you through this time in your life. God opened Elizabeth and Sarah's wombs when it was time and He closed them when it was time as well. May you be blessed regardless of what is coming.

I'm so happy your attitude is a good one. I would have had more children in life but circumstances didn't allow.

I'm also thankful you are trusting God in this. Truthfully, I'd probably have handled an unexpected pregnancy in my 40's a whole lot better than shortly after I had my tubes tied in my mid twenties, when we had four small kids and a farm with a huge debt. But it still would be quite a shock!

Please do let us know how things turn out. And the same tips go for actual morning sickness- ginger and Vitamin B6...

Neither here nor there.
Negative test at the health dept this morning. whew! But now she will follow up with Doc to get labs to assess hormones.

Actually since she's had a tubal her not being pregnant is probably a good thing as an etopic pregnancy is a very strong likelyhood, I know a couple of women that that has happened to. She needs to be checked for uterine and ovarain cancers if her hormones are messed up to trigger a positive on an pregnancy test.
