What is vinegar?
Vinegar is an aqueous solution of acetic acid, produced by the fermentation of sugars or ethanol. The solution has been used for thousands of years as a common disinfectant.

The standard white vinegar, which is a clear solution, contains 4 to 7% acetic acid and 93 to 96% water. Some types of white vinegar have up to 20% acetic acid, but this is not safe for human consumption and has been used for cleaning purposes.

Vinegar is the acidic liquid formed through fermentation of carbohydrates. In the past, people made vinegar by fermenting foods like potatoes, sugar beets, and milk whey.

People can also make vinegar using various other ingredients such as diluted alcohol products such as beer, wine, champagne, rice, cider, and distilled grain alcohol.

Nowadays, vinegar is manufactured by the fermentation of grain alcohol or ethanol. But, this type of vinegar doesn’t contain many nutrients. Other ingredients may be added to promote bacterial fermentation, such as phosphates and yeast.

Does vinegar kill bacteria?
Vinegar can kill microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses and treat yeast infections. Due to its antimicrobial properties, vinegar has been used for the treatment of ear infections, warts, and nail fungus. It has also been used to treat certain skin infections and burns.

Vinegar on burn wounds
Many studies support the antimicrobial properties of vinegar. A team of researchers from the University of Birmingham and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) examined the antimicrobial property of acetic acid (Vinegar) against organisms that cause infection in burn wounds.

The results of the study show that highly diluted acetic acid can inhibit the growth of key burn wound pathogens. The scientists suggested that acetic acid applications offer great promise as an effective and affordable treatment of infections among burn patients.

Vinegar on tuberculosis
Scientists at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine found that acetic acid (vinegar) efficiently kills Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of tuberculosis (TB). Vinegar is a nontoxic and affordable treatment for one of the most contagious diseases worldwide. Tuberculosis affected 10 million people across the world in 2017. In the same year, there were 1.3 million tuberculosis-related deaths.

Vinegar has also been effective in killing Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a common bacterium found in chronic wounds. Pseudomonas also causes infections in people with weakened immune systems and those confined in hospital for prolonged periods.

One study found that dilute acetic acid, which is easily available and cheap, is effective in treating chronic wounds. Pseudomonas infections are known to be resistant to many antibiotic treatments. But the topical application of 3 to 5% acetic acid to wounds 2 to 12 times successfully eliminated the bacteria from the wounds.

Vinegar on fungus
Aside from its antibacterial properties, vinegar has been effective in treating fungal infections. In one study, the researchers wanted to examine the antifungal activity of apple cider vinegar on certain Candida species. Candida albicans is an opportunistic pathogenic yeast that causes infection of the skin, nails, and mucous membranes. Candidiasis is a common infection affecting the vagina, skin, oral cavity and esophagus.

The results of the study show that apple cider vinegar is the most economical product to treat Candidiasis and other fungal infections. Besides its promising effects, it produces no adverse reactions, compared to antifungal drugs.

Vinegar is inexpensive, accessible, and effective in killing microbes, including bacteria and fungus. It can also be used as a safer alternative to bleach for some applications, such as cleaning.

Diluted. It is a big paIn that goes away before you can say ouch, and INSTANTLY TAKES AWAY VAGINAL (CROTCH) ITCH IN WOMEN AND JOCK ITCH IN GUYS! AND UNDER BOOB irritation. Remember that for SUMMER SWEAT PROBLEMS!

Take Advice from gramma she KNOWS!
Personally, I DONT WASH OFF THE VINEGAR. IT KEEPS THE PH OF THE SKIN UNFRIENDLY TO BACTERIA and Fungus FOR A LONG WHILE!

Just take a soft cloth (microfiber washcloth) and dip it in the diluted vinegar water and apply.

That will burn.
My immediate thought.
It does burn.
In veterinary world there’s an ear cleaning product we have used that has a distinctly vinegarish odor to it, called Malacetic.
It has a vinegar ingredient to help kill the infection while also cleaning the ear.

Dogs with terribly infected, raw ears would yelp and scream while we were using that stuff.

Thankfully, we do not carry use it any longer. I hated that stuff.
I always told those dogs ‘Im so sorry, I’m not trying to hurt you’

I have used apple cider vinegar to cure strep throat for years. Having worked in the medical field for years, there were times the entire clinic staff would be out with strep throat......it would be rampant in the schools and community.

My throat would get sore and start to feel slightly swollen and I would gargle with straight apple cider vinegar......never had it progress to an actual diagnosis, even had my throat swabbed at the insistance of several docs, that there was no way I could be immune. Never once showed any active infection.

You do have to gargle with the vinegar full strength, it burns, but it works and is one heck of a lot more productive that seeing a doc and getting antibiotics which make the virus stronger.

I have also used white vinegar for gargling and it works. However, after gargling, I also swallow the ACV, because it is full of nutrients and is just down right "good for you." With the white vinegar, you have lost all the nutrients and I think the ACV is stronger......especially if you use the "mother" which is a scum on the top of REAL vinegar which has not been processed, with the heat killing all of the natural properties of the vinegar.

I have also made my own vinegar out of fruit peelings, but never got it as strong as the vinegar available in stores.

There are some things that are on an "need to know" basis, and under boob irritation is one of the things I don't really need to know.

I’ve taken shots of ACV straight with water chaser. It’s fine.
No differ t than eating a salad with vinegar and oil dressing! Which I love!

Vinegar is fairly easy to make. I made a 30 gal batch accidentally one time. I had a 30 gal barrel of maple sap turn. Had a 2 " slime when I poured it out. It went down the driveway. All summer when it rained we smelled vinegar. I have made apple cider vinegar intentionally. Big thing is getting a consistent acidity if you are going to use it for preserving.

I've "cured" bad cases of poison ivy twice by splashing plain white vinegar over the affected areas. Dried the rash/blisters right up and the spreading stopped and then healed almost overnight.
WOW! THAT is something that should be passed along to the medical community, and naturopaths because I Have never read about it ANYWHERE.

Right now, I have a problem with having a rash under my right armpit. Wife used straight apple cider vinegar (Braggs) and it did burn so bad I had to wash it off. Next, she diluted it 50-50, it still burned a little but not as bad and the infection is getting much better.

i dilute it 1/4 cup vinegar to 3/4 cup water or 1/2 cup vinegar to 1.5 cups water.

ALSO Works faster, better and cheaper than Vagisil or Monistat as a douche.

It's a common old remedy in my family. Daughter's Dad was horribly allergic to poison ivy and finally gave in and tried it. Yes, it burns a bit, but not as bad as the poison ivy itches, and it cleared up quickly.
