moles!!!

:bwl:

Oh I've put off getting rid of the little buggers too long. They're taking over!!!

I put the juicyfruit gum down the holes. I just read what caplock had to say about mothballs. I'll get them out of the closet and try that too.

Any other ideas? I know a guy who set's up jug traps and catches a bunch every day but holy cow I don't have time for that!! That sounds more like a hobby.

Help!

I'm having a problem with moles myself. This is something I copied from a web site. I don't know if it will work or not but I am going to give it a try. Good luck.

"Castor oil can also be used on the ground. When the moles food is seasoned with castor oil, they will go elsewhere for meals. (Wouldn't you?) Mix up a spray of 3 parts castor oil to 1 part dish detergent; use 4 tablespoons of this concoction in a gallon of water, and soak the tunnels and the entrances. Check your soil for the presence of pests; if you have a lot of moles, you probably have an oversupply of grubs and bugs".

Want to borrow my barn cats?!

They were bringing me home at least one mole a day for a while there. I had mole carcasses everywhere I looked! They seem to have killed most of them on our six acres. They won't eat them, they must taste bad.

My dad lives in a plat of homes and he uses the castor oil. It works for him. Cheapest place he found was at Walmart in the pharmacy section.

Have fun!

My first visit here(to this sig). Pkchicken, the moth balls will work. How is your marksmanship? Do you need to practice a bit? Any of you with new BB guns, this would be a very good way to sharpen your aim and hone your hunting skills. Just sit very still and quiet, and shoot the little buggers when they stick their heads out of their holes. Are gophers and moles the same critter? I've eaten gopher before and it was gooood! Nope, I won't say it. They *do not* taste like.......I won't say it!

Hi Caplock50. No, gophers and moles are not the same critters. Gophers have shells like a turtle. The moles look kinda like a possum only black. Here is south west Georgia, there is a $500 fine for anyone caught killing a gopher!

Pepper, I think our gophers down here are different than what they call gophers other places. Here they are tortoises. Up there they are evidently a little mammal.

The number one mistake people usually make with moles is not what they use, but where they use it. Whatever preventative or poison you use needs to be done in this manner.

You will see two types of mole tunnels. Some will look like a maze with tunnels everywhere. These are feeder tunnels and the mole is most likely NOT going to travel through these a second time..unfortunatly these tunnels are most often the ones that people focus on, thinking they are the most active.Ignore these and look for:
THE LONE TUNNEL.. this one stretches over a long distance adn is usually all by itself. This is a travel tunnel and needs to be the one focused on. Whatever means you use as long as you focus on these tunnelss you will have as much success as possible, by this I mean ocassionally you will have to deal with these critters again.

Also...to quell your fears regarding numbers... moles are very territorial and will always be few in numbers, regardless of what it looks like

Happy Hunting

My dad used to take the riding lawn mower, put a hose on the exhaust, and blow carbon monoxide into the tunnels. Never killed a mole. Your explanation about the tunnel system finally explains why. Gues he had a lot of fun tho.

I was so mad last week when I saw mounds of dirt where the grass meets the dirveway! I knew the moles had found the thick grass and were tunneling! I can not see the tunnels, because the grass is so thick! They tunneled in at the edge of the drive. I have a sonic thingie that takes D bat. I will let you know how it works. If I can find the dang thing. Maybe I will try the castor oil if the noise does not drive them away! Have a good day! Bee

I've had good luck pouring cayenne pepper, tobasco sauce, etc. down the holes. I usually mix it with water to make it easier to pour into the hole. They don't much like it and usually look for less spicy areas.

On the other hand, once we got a border collie, we haven't had to do anything other than fill in the holes she makes digging them up. She laid them out by the driveway after digging them up. She went after them with a vengence (on her own) and we haven't seen any more "runs" since then.
